  1. Hello Irishjoe, People who are celiac/gluten intolerant often have other intolerances to foods, such as dairy, soy, etc. Each person is different. I think they were just going over what they ate, to see what could have caused some problems. I noticed cheese in the list, and that could be the problem for tummy troubles in some. For some, (with healing...
  2. That's really cool! Actually, I think it's quite common. I design kitchens, and you get to know people well. It's surprising how many of my clients have celiac, and require two ovens or seperate drawers. I also noticed, that when I'm shopping for my gluten-free foods, there always out of what I need. Someone's buying it! I think alot of people stay quiet...
  3. Hi Janet, and Welcome Yes, everyone has a different level of tolerance. I do not have celiac, but have been diagnosed with a gluten intolerance with no damage to intestines. I also have a dairy intolerance, which I'm sure you've learned usually goes hand in hand with gluten intolerance. If I eat gluten, I usually get a itchy rash followed by gi...
  4. jenvan-I second the Lundberg rice chips, they are the BEST!!!! I love the barbecue(there always sold out ) and we eat them with brown rice and redkidney beans.YUM!!
  5. Hi Cami, I have had what the drs called borderline thyroid problems. I never treated it with drugs but the problem went away. I'm not overweight either, always had 5 to 10 lbs I'd like to lose but found extremely difficult to do. When I got sick from gluten, I lost the weight but while remaining on gluten-free diet, I have maintained my weight. I find...
  6. Sounds like he's on his way to recovery. For myself and teen son, that was the first thing we noticed. Within days our bm were formed. No explosive diarrhea. Of course it takes longer to completely heal and after months of being gluten-free,we still have reactions to otherfoods such as dairy. We are still healing and it takes time. It sounds like your...
  7. Cami- your story kind of sounds like mine! I have had problems throughout my life similar to yours. After taking antibiotics, I became really sick, and soon discovered I'm intolerant to gluten. I tested positive for "dietary gluten sensitivity" with no damage to the intestines. Even though, I can ingest gluten in small amounts with no known reaction, I could...
  8. Claire-No problem, like you said this is a forum. We're all here to discuss opinions and share experiences! Take care!! Charlene
  9. Claire- I do not take offense to you personally, just this quote is confusing," only tests and numbers convince those who do not want to be convinced." My understanding of your quote was the only way to get people to believe and support you are to have proof from a doctor. In your most resent post you talk about getting doctors to diagnosis and accept gluten...

  11. Hi Brad, and welcome to the forum! I agree, my two boys do not eat gluten, and being of Italian heritage, I understand we are at high risk for gluten intolerance. I do not require them to be officially tested, as I was, because we all have gone gluten free and have noticed great improvement in our health. We have also gone dairy free, but still eat...
  12. Hello Jessica, and Welcome!! I became gluten intolerant after taking antibiotics in Feb of this year, and like you I had never heard of celiac or gluten. Now with many months of research, and a gluten free diet, I have never felt better. I look back on all the health issues I've had in the past, and can see a pattern that probably was brought on by...
  13. Claire-I'd like to respond to your post, since it was directed to me. Yes, I do have two kids, but I still don't need a Dr.s or lab confirmation on the fact that gluten is affecting us.In my opinion(after much research, gluten is harmful to us all) and will stick to gluten free for life. What my children do as adults will be out of my control. They know gluten...
  14. Yes, the anxiety will begin to fade...for me it has...slowly. Whenever I get glutened I have diarrhea that can last a few days. I get very anxious about going out. But I'm starting to get confident. We have even booked a holiday to Hawaii this march. I find that since I've become gluten intolerant, other foods bother me as well. Like cheese..some days...
  15. You should relax. Just continue eating gluten free now and I'm sure you'll be fine! If you stick to a healthy gluten free diet now, I'm sure there won't be a problem with getting pregnant. Good luck and try not to worry!
  16. Two great cookbooks I use are: No wheat no problem by Dr.Corrie Ann Materie and The Best Gluten Free Family Cookbook by Donna Washburn & Heather Butt.
  17. I agree everone heals at a different rate. My teen and I discovered we were gluten intolerant at the same time. He healed faster than me. I've had more years of damage then him, I imagine. By what you describe from your 2.5 years old progress sounds like improvement to me!!!
  18. I miss cafe mochas, cookies, my hazelnut and oat bread. Oh and Pizza from pizza hut!!
  19. They look yummy!! Do you know if they ship to Canada?
  20. It's amazing how many people have celiac. There's so many out there suffering out there that also have it and don't know it. Before I became sick, I never heard of gluten or celiac. You're very lucky to have found daycare with a celiac caregiver. I'm sure it gives you peace of mind.
  21. Hi jerseyangel, Yes , for me it does. I don't usually get nausea just burning type sensations in the intestines. I usually let it run its course as well, but if I have to go out, taking immodium gives me peace of mind. My reactions to gluten are intense itchy rash with burning intestines followed by diarrhea. Give immodium a try and see if it helps...
  22. I lost weight in the beginning, before I knew what was causing my diarrhea. Everything I ate...even plain ol rice would go right through. Now, if I'm accidentally glutened, I take immodium. That stops the diarrhea immediately! For me..when I was sickest, it took longer to feel better after eating gluten and now that I'm healing, I'm only sick for a day sometimes...
  23. I had gallbladder surgery 9 years ago and never had any problems with gluten. Only when I ate red meat or foods high in fats would it cause a problem. Although I never was a big pasta and bread eater. I do know that the gallbladder does play a big part in digestion and with less enzymes for digesting our food, it can lead to food allergies, intolerances,...
  24. I can relate to your comment on wanting proof from tests. I used to feel that way...then it hit me does it really matter? Do what makes your body feel better. Every lab is different and you could get different results from each one. It is very frusterating and I think everyone on this board understands!! Just eat what your body wants. I tested negative for...
  25. Hi Moongirl, happy to hear you got through the procedures and have found some answers. First, probiotics replenish the good bacteria that are killed along with the bad when taking antibiotics. You can get them at health stores. Look for the "enteric" coated ones, they will get to your intestines. In Feb. of this year both my son and I were put on...
