ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Rice Malt?
traveljunkie replied to traveljunkie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe I'm confused as well...I no longer have the bag...it could have been Auntie Nuts . I did purchase them from Costco. All I know is I won't at anything with rice malt for awhile. -
ARCHIVED Aaahhhhh ? Problems With Dairy
traveljunkie replied to Bonnie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second that...who needs dairy!!! It's not great for us...just the big food industry companies trying to brain wash us into thinking what's good for us. It's all about the $ and not about the health of the people. Like my son always says" we're not calves trying to weigh 500 lbs in 6 mos." He's totally right and everytime I see the dairy commercial about... -

traveljunkie replied to traveljunkie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
jenvan, thanks for the link but last time I checked they don't ship to Canada . I'll check again!! carrie, that's the problem. The ingredients seem safe but I had an immediate reaction(within minutes) to consuming! Go figure Somethings wierd about it and I don't trust anything with rice malt in the ingredients. I googled rice malt and I did find articles... -
ARCHIVED Getting Nervous
traveljunkie replied to Moongirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Moongirl, just reading your post brought back bad memories of why I'm even on this site . All my problems began after taking antibiotics for bronchitis. I would have skipped the antibiotics unless it's very, very necessary!! Make sure you supplement with probiotics!! You'll be fine with the endoscope... it's always the lead up to these tests that are usally... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Rice Malt?
traveljunkie replied to traveljunkie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Almonds, rice malt, organic evaporated cane juice, and sea salt. Rice malt is the only suspect in my opinion! -

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Rice Malt?
traveljunkie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought some Mrs. Mays almond crunch that states "wheat free" from costco the other day. I was thrilled I found what I though was a safe snack, but after eating a few handfuls, I started getting a itchy rash and had bad diarrhea. The same reaction I have after eating gluten. After researching online, I learned that rice malt can contain barley. I was shocked... -

traveljunkie replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rusla, That was my reaction when you posted the farmers market that has 2 booths that sell gluten-free bakery. I can't wait to go this weekend! I always call my hubby after I found a new goodie that is safe for my son and I to eat. Thankfully he's very supportive and is always on the lookout for "safe" foods!! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Any Vacation Recommendations?
traveljunkie replied to buluga's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Buluga, I can relate to your post. My son and I became gluten intolerant in Febuary after taking strong antibiotics. It took months before we found out what was wrong with us. We are healing but had to cancel a trip to Italy in May. We are going to rebook our trip in a year or so after we feel comfortable travelling so far away. In the meantime we have... -

ARCHIVED Introduction And Question
traveljunkie replied to pedsarnp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, it's nice to talk to another gluten free vegetarian. I can relate to the difficulties in meal options! It's very frustrating at times. My oldest son and I are gluten intolerant after taking antibiotics. My husband and younger son are not and they also eat meat. My oldest is a vegan but I still eat eggs and occasionally cheese (which usually bothers me... -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Have To Starve?
traveljunkie replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sad to hear about your problems but like everyone is saying most of the gluten-free food that s expensive is not good for you anyway!! My family and I have been eating more veggies and fruit(love making smoothies). You can find soup and cereal at a reasonable cost. Also, I know gluten-free free bread is more expensive but would last you a long time... -

traveljunkie replied to Rusla's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Not Sure If Celiac Or Not, Going To Dr. Next Week
traveljunkie replied to Bea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Bea, I would like to welcome you as many have welcomed me..I'm new here as well. Celiac has many symptoms..some of which you mention but you could also be gluten intolerant. Do you notice when the diarrhea and itchy palm occur.? Did you eat pasta, bread or anything with gluten in it? My son and I are gluten intolerant after a round of strong antibiotics... -
ARCHIVED Weight Gain As A Symptom -before Starting Gf Diet
traveljunkie replied to aberglund's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I always had that stubborn 10 to 15 lbs that would not come off prior to going gluten-free but now I have lost the weight and weigh what I did in high school!! I think that people who gain the weight after going gluten-free are over eating the "snacks" that are gluten free. Ever read the ingredients? Sugar, sugar, sugar! I have a 9 year that I bake gluten... -
ARCHIVED So Glad I Found This Forum!
traveljunkie replied to traveljunkie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Bubble, Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes I do take probiotics, they seem to help a lot. In the beginning I never realized that gluten was making the situation worse. Now that I'm healing and watching my diet, taking vitamins and probiotics things are defineatly improving. The only problem I have is with cheese and I usually take a extra dose of probiotics... -
ARCHIVED Does Mongolie Grill Have Safe Gluten Free Food?
traveljunkie replied to traveljunkie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks 2boys4me! My neighbour has been saying we should meet for lunch for months but I've put it off being worried about getting ill. I'm also a vegetarian so, there's limited choices on eating out. Actually haven't eaten out since my son and I have been diagnosed with gluten intolerence. I've always wanted to try the Mongolie Grill and we'll be... -

Does anyone know if the Mongolie grill is a safe place to dine at? Any experiences? I live in Canada, so not sure if there's a Mongolies Grill in the U.S. -
Hi busybee, Welcome to the site and I'm new to the forum as well. I can understand your frusteration with doctors. I think we've all been there with doctors you just want to scream at. Glad you have found your way to health. I miss eating Subway but remember all the digestive and itchy skin problems...couldn't pay me to eat one now. Not being able to keep...

ARCHIVED Casin Free,
traveljunkie replied to elisabet's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with everyone about the yogurt. It affects me real bad...can you have soy yogurt? I have eliminated dairy from my diet exept for the occasional cheese, which usually doesn't affect me but last night I ate to much and I'm paying the price today! Horrible pain...had to cancel an appt. and just stay home for it to pass. My advice is to stay away... -
ARCHIVED Depression
traveljunkie replied to Maureen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Maureen, So glad you're doing everything to help your daughter. Like I mentioned before my son suffered from sadness. I can't help but think part of the problem is the stress teens have these days. I know with all the media about the state of the world and the issues kids deal with everyday, my son always feels the weight of the world on his shoulders... -
ARCHIVED White Coating On Tongue?
traveljunkie replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to hear about your bad day...we all go through those! I was just thinking about the cashews you ate and maybe the fat content in them bothered you. Cashews have a very high fat content and can bother some celiacs. I have no problem with them and eat them with brussel sprouts everyday for lunch. Yum!! Maybe if you try to eat them again, have them...
