Celiac.com - Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Support Since 1995

  1. I could be totally wrong here, but I didn't think a colonoscopy could be used to detect celiac. Wrong end. I'd get the full celiac blood tests done, TTG IGA and IGG, DGP IGA and IGG, EMA, (I think I got them all). This would be before going gluten free. Then if one test is positive go for the endoscopy, then go gluten free.
  2. When I was researching celiac there were people with high numbers like that. So it's not unheard of. I'd go to the gastroenterologist. If celiac is diagnosed and the gluten-free diet is started those numbers will drop quickly.
  3. There are many different gluten free flours out there. I prefer Pamelas gluten free all purpose flour. So far it seems just like regular flour for me (batter, gravy).
  4. Having watched the cafeteria people while waiting for friends, I think you should bring her sandwich with you to the mountain. It can easily fit in a camelback (many people have them) or waist pack. There is a City Market (King Soopers) in Dillon. They sell Canyon Bakehouse bread near the deli. They have white, 7 grain, fake rye bread. They might have...
  5. Initially I would recommend eating simple foods at home until your blood test numbers start improving or whatever metric you are using to determine that you're better. But once you've gotten your blood test numbers down to normal or you've been told that your healed you can find restaurants that are good for people that need to be gluten-free at the...

ARCHIVED New Doctor - Austin Texas

In my opinion, because you have no outward symptoms the only way to see if you're doing it right is to get your celiac blood test results so you know your starting point. After a few months retest the number that failed and see if it's going down. If it is then your doing it right.
  7. I can't say if spices would bother you. If you get sick from some foods and not others, then I would expect that the foods that don't make you sick are good for you. Make a detailed food log and if you go a few days without issue, then the foods you ate must be good for you. Now that I'm no longer slightly nauseous all day I can tell when I mess up by...
  8. My understanding is as follows: (an analogy) Lets say you were having a really bad day and a hammer kept falling on your hand causing a new break each time (ouch!). Obviously you get rid of the hammer (gluten). But you're still left with a hand with multiple broken bones (damaged intestines). You can't use it like a healthy hand, you have to set the...
  9. I think marinated artichoke hearts are acidic. I'm surprised they don't bother you. But everybody is different. Think of it this way. If you've ever had a canker sore in your mouth, don't eat or drink anything you would not be willing to touch a painful canker sore with. Almond and coconut Kind bars can sit in your car. But they currently make me nauseous...
  10. My blood test results didn't show values >100 so I'll never know what my highest number was. It took several months for my numbers to go down below 100. My numbers drop the most when I'm on a very bland diet. If you're young you probably just have to worry about keeping the gluten out of your diet. Although a bland whole foods diet would definitely speed...
  11. Haha. Just tried them the other day. Best bagels I've tried. I melted some butter and american cheese to see if I can add some calcium on my bland diet. Quite yummy.
  12. To heal gastritis I would avoid anything acidic or spicy and stick to bland food till it got better.
  13. Looks to me like your altered diet is working great! Stick with it. You're so close. I'm over 50 and my numbers only go down on a mostly liquid gluten free diet. I have several months more to go before I can be on a regular gluten free diet.
  14. Until he starts getting better he really needs to stick with soft, bland foods. I put a mashed potato soup recipe in the recipes area. What is healthy for a normal person isn't necessarily good for an inflamed digestive system. Anything spicy, acidic should be avoided. Fruit is acidic. I've read that pickled cabbage is good, but you couldn't pay me to eat...
  15. Are there any foods, like broth, that don't make your son feel sick?
  16. I was on pretty much a liquid diet for 8 months waiting for my nausea to go away completely. I mostly had mashed potato soup, 1/2 fat ice cream (mostly whey, not milk), chocolate drink (no added milk) and gummy vitamins. The soup tasted yummy and I'm still alive so I figured I'd share it for people not feeling well in the beginning. I've been noticing people...
