  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting your experience!! I fear I was contemplating giving up--sort of. Giving up that my symptoms might still abate. I'm 6 years gluten free and lots of stuff has gotten better--but mostly the stuff I really don't care much about (hair, skin). I long for the day the joint & muscle pain, BLOAT, abdominal cramps...
  2. I'll probably regret posting this; but here goes anyway. For those of you who believe that they are "back to normal" or "feeling good" or "feeling well", can you please tell us of your success? It would help me (and I think others) to know that some Celiacs actually regain a healthful life again. Reading on this site frequently leaves me sad and thinking...
  3. Hi Asherin! My Celiac symptoms began suddenly with severe migraines & frequent (though short-lived) hives. Both of these were nearly daily problems. I would get tested for Celiac ASAP.
  4. Maybe you're thinking of SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth)? There are several antibiotics used to treat that--the most common, I think, is rifaximin (Xifaxin). SIBO is something that tends to come back again. I can definitely empathize with you. Gluten free for 6 years and still not well. SCD helped me also. I'm still stuck on eating only...
  5. 14 days sure does sound better than 12 weeks!! I hope you figure it out! Sorry I can't help.
  6. Kareng, You are absolutely right! My bad. Sorry, Andrew. And...I DO find you guys to be nice!
  7. No idea about the 3 grams of gluten. U. of Chicago says 1/2 slice of bread or 1 cracker a day is what they recommend for a gluten challenge. 12 weeks for blood tests; 2 weeks for endoscopy.
  8. Andrew, Welcome! I see this is your first post. You will be more successful if you take the time to READ, and READ, and READ, and READ if you expect others to take the time to respond. I don't know if anyone on this site is paid for their time; but I'm pretty sure the vast majority are not. Please try to "hold up your end"....then ask...
  9. Binti, The U. of chicago Celiac website states they recommend 12 weeks of gluten ingestion prior to blood testing and 2 weeks of gluten prior to the biopsy. It sounds like you didn't have a long enough exposure to gluten prior to the blood tests. The biopsy results alone are not sufficient for a Celiac diagnosis.
  10. Ian, IF your doc says there's nothing wrong with you and that you're a lunatic, FIRE THE B_____D! Run, don't walk to the nearest exit and never look back! He/She is stupid!!! Things WILL get better for you! Hugs!
  11. Notme! YES! "Everyday's a picnic!" I love that! I love that way of framing an annoyance. Turning a chore into a delight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have got to remember that!
  12. Ian, I have to say that I have no idea what would happen to me if I got "glutened". From Day #1, I was FANATICAL about avoiding gluten. There are people on this site who do know exactly what happens to them when they come in contact with gluten. The reactions seem to vary from person to person. My main recommendation would be to make your diet...
  13. Welcome to you both! You, most definitely, are NOT alone in your suffering and your feelings of isolation. I know it can be difficult when you go to your usual "support group" of friends and they simply cannot understand your situation--no matter how hard they may try. Even my internist (of 8 years duration) admitted at my last visit that he "honestly...
  14. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, skin is not quite as impermeable as one would wish. For instance, there are many medications applied topically which are absorbed and attain measurable levels in the bloodstream. Think about the prescription patches you see advertised. Scopolamine patches are applied on the skin behind the ear. They are used for motion...
  15. Nope. The law you're thinking of applies only to packaged foods. However, a bill has been reintroduced into Congress in September this year for labelling gluten in medications. Not sure where that bill stands.
  16. Tina, Careful! Omeprazole is made by MANY different manufacturers! Glutenfreedrugs.com actually states that Prilosec (omeprazole) IS gluten free. On a brief search at NIH, I found at least one generic version that is also gluten free. Gluten status of meds is, unfortunately, a complex issue. It is best to call the manufacturer yourself...
  17. Positron, I thank you for your post and your efforts on my behalf. However, I believe you misunderstood. I have been gluten free since the day I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease nearly 6 years ago. The 8 years refers to the length of time I've had the same internist. My complaint was merely that he refused to order the recommended annual follow-up testing...
  18. I bake with blanched almond flour 2 times a week. I have tried all the brands I can find, including Honeyville. When I used Honeyville, years ago, I don't believe it had the shared equipment warning? If it did, I missed it! I do not (knowingly) use anything with a shared equipment warning. I agree shared facility can sometimes be OK. I have never seen...
  19. Gabriel makes Certified Gluten Free nail polish. I can't vouch for any since I don't use it. Don't know about your brand.
  20. Hi Abel, You may be surprised, and at the same time reassured, that I found nothing unusual in your situation. Celiac can frequently show its ugly head after surgery. I am sorry to welcome you to the club! I think the more you read on this site, the more reassured and relaxed you will become about your situation. Our stories are all quite...
  21. Don't quit your job or school! If you do have to quit, make sure a lot of people in authority SEE you sick as a dog so you can get SSDI if you need it in the future. I "sucked it up", quit my job believing that I would soon get well enough to work again. WRONG! That was 15 years ago! I'm still not well enough to work! I managed to work part-time for...
  22. Thank you for recommending annual follow-up testing!  You have facilitated the lifting of a huge weight off my back.  Tests verified I'm not getting gluten and I am healing.  It's not my fault I'm not well yet.  A big "thanks" to you!

  23. Momma, I have absolutely NO idea when or if I've been glutened in the 6 years I've been attempting to be gluten free. NO idea. My symptoms vary widely and come and go with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I had been blaming myself that since I was not well yet; I MUST be failing at being gluten free. Beat myself up--a lot. But...due solely to the...
  24. Momma, Momma, Momma, Unfortunately, the Celiac healing curve is just like all healing curves. The darn thing does not just keep going up. It goes up, then down, then up a little, then down a little, then up a lot, etc. There's nothing wrong with you. We all go through it. You know all that patience you give to your little Pirate and Princess...

Hi Lacey, Ditto all the others who say to dump any guy who won't CHEERFULLY support your food requirements. If you're interested in a long-term relationship with a loving, supportive partner, food requirements will be the LEAST of your problems! My husband and I have been married since 1975. Long-term, you will have to deal with a lot more than food...
