I agree As for normal breast development, why does it make small breats shrink even more? -
ARCHIVED Breastfeeding And When To Introduce Gluten
covsooze replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dionne - I was diagnosed when my son was 2 and I had breastfed him for 18 months. In our case, my malabsorbtion didn't effect him - he obviously knew what he needed and got it all!! However, I think it gave me more problems as it obviously left me with even less in the way of nutrients. Sounds like a very interesting study. As the breastfeeding, in hindsight... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
covsooze replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Carla and Patti Carla - does the salt do anything other than just raise your temp? Does it help fight of the lyme (and other diseases?). Patti - you sound just like me, 98 would be a fever for me too! I can't believe that when I had mono (all those years ago!) my temperature was over 100 for a whole week I will look up the info on Broda... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
covsooze replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hello everyone I've never posted on this thread before but have been following the last few pages with great interest. My problems are ongoing too, but I don't think anywhere near as extreme as some of you. There was discussion a few pages back about body temperature. Forgive me if my question has been covered before! For those of you who have probs with... -
ARCHIVED Gi Discomfort V Intolerance
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks so much marcia - that does help a lot. I saw my dietician yesterday, who I must say, for an NHS dietician is very open minded and very helpful She's helping me put together an elimination diet to start after Christmas. It sounds pretty much like yours. She got me making a list of foods I know I'm OK with, foods that I know I'm not and foods that... -
ARCHIVED Gi Discomfort V Intolerance
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Kaycee, I've replied to your question on your chocolate thread, although I see Nooner has provided a good answer her too You guys who've done/ are doing an elimination diet. Did you start off eating nothing at all or just a couple of foods? I'm not sure how restrictive I am going to need to be to start off with - pretty restrictive I reckon, but I... -
Hi Kaycee! I've just been a-surfing, having read your reply to my post about intolerances. I'm pretty sure that neither cocoa nor coffee are legumes (although I'm ready to be corrected on this one by someone more knowledgeable). My book on intolerances doesn't mention coffee (duh!) but says that cocoa is in a family of its own - not a legume. I don...

Have a great one Susan Susie x -
Apart from gluten, the only 2 foods that I've got real problems with (ie to the extent that I feel it necessary to avoid them) are chocolate and tomatoes. Chocolate makes me really poorly and tomatoes give me mouth ulcers. However, there are lots of other foods that cause me GI discomfort. I don't know if that means I'm intolerant to them or indeed if that...

ARCHIVED Does Your Gi System Approve Of Alcohol?
covsooze replied to luvs2eat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm another one who can't touch alcohol. White wine acts like paint stripper on my stomach, red wine gives me migraines, and I've never really been into spirits. I get hot flushes and feeling poorly with very small amounts of any alcohol. I've got some gluten-free beer sitting in my gluten-free cupboard but I expect it'll be waiting there quite a while! The... -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
covsooze replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The other thing that causes brain fog for me is tiredness, so if you've got a sleep problem, that might also contribute. Hopefully, a lot of things will clear up with you doing the elimination diet. Let us know how you go with sorting your thyroid. Susie x -
ARCHIVED Help Against The Gerd! (reflux)
covsooze replied to allison's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is a very interesting thread Causes of GERD for me: gluten; meds (you must make sure not to take NSAIDs eg ibuprofen) and my iron irritated it big time; a whole host of foods: citrus, tomatoes, dairy, fatty stuff, anything even vaguely spicey, onions, bananas etc; overdoing any sinlge food or eating too much generally; stress etc There's... -
ARCHIVED Can You Eat At Thai Or Chinese Reataurants At All?
covsooze replied to imagine22's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I think it's a bit like any resteraunt - if you can be confident that they understand the issues, and will work with you, then you can be OK (I appreciate that's a big 'if'!). I'm really lucky in that the manager at our Chinese is very helpful. He will get his chef to make any dish for me (within reason!) with just salt and garlic - no other spices or soy... -
Yep, depression and anxiety are definitely symptoms of glutening for me. But also, I react like that to chocolate as well. With depression and anxiety, it's often difficult to pin down a cause, and probably for a lot of us who do suffer with them, there are many contributing factors. But food allergy/intolerance can definitely be one of them. Hope you're...

Congrats, that's so exciting My DS was tested at almost 3 and so far is clear. Breastfeeding, if you can, has got to be better all round. All the best with everything.

ARCHIVED Biopsy Scheduled...freaking Out..
covsooze replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep, I was like Julie too - hate hospitals, totally freaked by the idea of anesthetics etc. It's fine, honestly. Just ask for plenty of sedative so you can have a lovely snooze! And the only after effect I had (apart from being sleepy) was a slightly sore throat. you'll be fine -
ARCHIVED Recovery From Neurological Problems
covsooze replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My thyroid values are ok now (not sure what they are) so i don't think it's that. Vits - I only really take cal/mag/zinc. I am concerned about the B vits, but apparently my B12 level is considered normal (387), despite what I've read here that suggests that's on the low side. If the GP thinks its 'normal' I'm not sure what to do. I can take B tabs, but when... -
ARCHIVED Good News
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it's standard practice in the UK, certainly in my area, as the biopsy is a more reliable way of checking how we are doing. -
ARCHIVED Recovery From Neurological Problems
covsooze replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
what about depression? Has anyone had success in that going once gluten-free and, if so, how long did it take? I've been gluten-free 10 months and my recent endoscopy shows my intestines are much better, but the anxiety, depression iritability etc are still there. I had thought they were linked with the celiac disease, but maybe not? Would B12 help with these... -

I had my follow up biopsy done on Monday, having been gluten-free since January, and just got the results - it showed that I am reacting well to the gluten-free diet. Hooray -
ARCHIVED So I Have A Twin Brother Right....
covsooze replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I feel for you - me and my sister both have coeliac and we are convinced our father does because of his symptoms, but he had a negative blood test (he didn't have the full panel) and is not willing to take it any further, despite us telling him he could end up feeling so much better. it's a really difficult one. -
ARCHIVED New And Lots Of Questions, patience Please!
covsooze replied to kristenroman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Kristen, good to have you here From reading this board, it seems to me that lots of people (myself included) feel loads better the first couple of weeks of being gluten-free, then feel rubbish again for a while. I wonder if it's because the body initially breathes a huge sigh of relief at not being fed gluten, and then a couple of weeks down the... -
ARCHIVED It's The End Of The World As We Know It!
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, I've been nightshade free for 2 whole days and I think I may be on the right track. Only 1 hive yesterday (a large one) and one small one today. And I've had definite withdrawal symptoms (headache & brain fog). Can't believe I'm doing a potato detox I am also at last getting round to simplifying my diet, heading for an elimination diet, and... -
