I have really low bp too. My endocrinologist said it means I'll be long lived. he also said they do worry about people having low bp in Germany but not in the UK I didn't realise it could be one of the reasons I lack energy so much. Like oceangirl, I have a low white blood count. The heamatologist said my wbc reacts correctly (ie goes up when I've...

ARCHIVED Do You Feel Better On A High/moderate Fat Or Low Fat Diet?
covsooze replied to mle-ii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a difficult one for me. I need the fat for energy and to stave off depression, but fat also makes my stomach sore. I guess I need to be more careful about getting the 'right' fats....but even then, olive oil can irritate my stomach. -
Thank you both so much will try making it tomorrow with DS and let you know the results. I really need to remember to google things myself...

ARCHIVED Do You Have Dry, Painful, Cracked Heels?
covsooze replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, I have that problem too, and it's definitely worse when wearing sandals. I file my feet and use a cream that's high in urea - it really does work wonders, but I do have to remember to put it on. Also, if there's a patch that's actually sore as opposed to just cracked, any cream will make it worse. -
I'd like to make some strawberry sorbet, but all my recipes for sorbet have egg whites in them. I'm reluctant to use uncooked eggs as DS used to be allergic to raw egg (he's grown out of it now, but even so...). Any thoughts? Don't want to do ice cream as I'm avoiding dairy - unless there's a recipe I could use rice milk in.

ARCHIVED How Can I Beat My Carb Addiction?
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you all so much for all your help I don't need to lose weight - it's more a matter of feeling more healthy. I think I've got to get over coming off my antidepressants before I can make a successful go of it, but for now, I know what I have to do - ban DH from buying me gluten-free cakes!! He does it to cheer me up, but it's not doing me any favours... -
ARCHIVED I Haven't Slept Through The Night In Years!
covsooze replied to azmom3's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi there The sleep problem may or may not be a symptom of celiac disease, but if your child has a positive diagnosis, you should definitely get tested yourself, as it is hereditary. Hugs Susie x -
ARCHIVED The Smell Of Foods Affect Me
covsooze replied to mick66's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Eggs do the same thing for me. Don't real know what started my aversion to eggs as I ate them fine as a young child. Makes me feel sick when someone just describes the smell or cooking process -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better

Praying here too. Much love to the whole family. Susie x -
OK, so I'm probably going to be flamed by you healthy people with the 'new attitude problem' but I'm really struggling with eating cakes and biscuits - gluten-free, but I'm eating way too many, the fat irritates my stomach and I know it's not good for me, but when i get tired and down (which is quite often) that's what I reach for. Nothing else seems to...

Taz, I've found iron irritates my stomach a lot too. there is a slow release iron available on the NHS called Ferrograd, which I've been taking for a while now and which seems to be much better. Doesn't seem to trouble me with constipation. Have you tried black pudding? I went really anaemic when I was pregnant (before my diagnosis) and needed to bring my...

ARCHIVED Very Strange Sensations Today..
covsooze replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My main problem seems to be getting really exhausted and feeling quite down in the evenings. But then I'm generally fine after rest, so I really hope I can come off these things. As for the dizziness, I did have blood sugar issues and lower than normal blood pressure (it's usually pretty low anyway) going onto the tabs and these issues surfaced again coming... -
ARCHIVED Very Strange Sensations Today..
covsooze replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lisa, I'm going down to 5mg as of tomorrow. You have inspired me to get a move on with this! I'm glad to have been on the lexapro as it's made a huge difference to me, but I really think the advice from the drs is rubbish about coming off them. It was actually my psychiatrist (the supposed expert!) who suggested I take just one week to come off 20mg completely... -
ARCHIVED Delayed Reaction? How Possible?
covsooze replied to oceangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good question. I'm thinking of doing a food diary and it's this sort of issue that's delaying me starting. I did get glutened about 3 weeks ago. I know I did because I drank barley water without knowing it was barley water, so I found out afterwards that I'd definitely had gluten. I had IBS type pains for 3 or 4 days and only after that did the D arrive... -
Thanks all. Nancy, that link was very useful I liked it because it seemd to give a very balanced picture.

I've read a little bit about 5 HTP and its benefits for depression and sleep problems and wondering if anyone's got any good / bad experiences of using it. Does it interact with any other meds? (don't know whether I should wait until I'm totally off my ads to try it).
-
The long term disadvantages are only if he does not stay away from the gluten. Sorry your dr hasn't given you much info - you'll find plenty here There are some gluten free beers and ales now. I've not tried any yet but your hubby might want to give them a go. Welcome to you both and all the best for this period of adjustment.

ARCHIVED Trying To Figure Out My Sleep Problem
covsooze replied to covsooze's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Bully4you The meds are cipralex (your brand in the US is lexapro). I've just read Lisa's thread about her side effects of coming off lexapro and CDFamily posted on there about the effects lexapro can have on sleep. I never knew that - maybe that's a big contributing factor. I generally only drink water. If I do have caffeine it will be max one... -
ARCHIVED Very Strange Sensations Today..
covsooze replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lisa, I'm coming off escitolopram at the moment too. I've had many of the symptoms you're having. Plus been crying a lot. Luckily a friend of mine whose also come off it warned me that she got very emotional for a while. It doesn't even come close to when I came off amitryptaline (sorry, can't spell these dreadful drug names!). I had only been on it for a... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Figure Out My Sleep Problem
covsooze posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm going to the GP on Friday to discuss my tiredness and sleep problem. I know there's probably more than one thing going on here (eg anemia/ hypothyroid may well be contributing to the tiredness), but I want to get to the bottom of my sleep problem. I've never slept particularly brilliantly, usually waking up once or twice a night, but in the past... -
ARCHIVED Ridges In Fingernails
covsooze replied to lindalee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
my thumb nails have always been ridged horizontally and in the past year or so, some of my other nails have developed ridges. They also crack very easily and have white spotting. I've been gluten-free for 6 mths now and on iron for 12 and not noticed any difference. I'm wondering if malabsorbtion is still a problem for me or if there's something else I'm... -
jayhawkmom - I was going to ask a similar question as my symptoms sound very like yours. Complete exhaustion! However, I do have lots of little awakenings in the night. I'm wondering if it could be RLS for me. I hope you get to the bottom of it

ARCHIVED Swollen Glands
covsooze replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since havin had mono 15 years ago (yikes, can't believe it's that long ago!!) I've had swollen glands almost permanently. I've been gluten-free for 6 months and not really noticed a difference - maybe I have other food issues to sort. It's worth you have bloods done though, as it could be mono or another infection. Or it could simply be your immune system... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin B Question
covsooze posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've just bought some vit B complex, but it says on it that use of B6 of more than 10mg on a long term basis can lead to tingling and numbness. has anyone heard of this before or experienced it? The tabs contain, amongst other vits, 50mg of B6. How long can I safely take this level for?
