Hi - I think I responded to your weight loss Q on the wrong thread. I'll try and repost. I'm an asymptomatic Celiac and at first found some of the info and responses didn't match my needs. But the more I search and post, the more I find that helps. Please think about giving it another try. Julie

I'm one of those Celiacs that did all the gaining and none of the losing as well. I am not, and haven't been for some time, skinny. My diagnosis came after 30 lbs lost in 6 months, all from malabsorption. I would like to lose more but have found that I was more than replacing calories with the gluten goodies I've found. I am starting to cut back on the...

My anemia and malabsorption issues were to the point were I had to have intravenous iron treatments. These get right into the bloodstream and don't rely on my non-functioning intestines to do any work. If you are far enough down that breathing is an issue, weight loss is sustained and your job is in jeopardy, talk with your doctor about a better treatment...

ARCHIVED New Here -diet QuestionIronedOut replied to SusanRachel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Excellent fact sheet. And more than enough evidence to go with the good life. Do you know if there is some documentation out there that states in plain english the fact that whether you are asymptomatic or not, any (and all) gluten is damaging? I need some help dispelling the notion that a little won't hurt.

I saw a dietician. She didn't give wrong information. She gave such limited and limiting information that if I hadn't already found this board, I might have considered sticking with gluten. Save your money for some good gluten-free food.

ARCHIVED Rice Crispy TreatsIronedOut replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips If you have the large ones already, just cut them into smaller pieces. I have leftovers from camping trips that would go stale otherwise.

ARCHIVED My Mom Is SickIronedOut replied to tbuehler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I think she means she wrote a response earlier and it didn't get onto the thread. Absolutely nothing to do with you.

ARCHIVED Rice Crispy TreatsIronedOut replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Does coconut oil have a flavor? I'm not a big fan of coconut flavor. I would consider almond though. Either would be great twists on the flavor!

ARCHIVED Could I Be Anymore PatheticIronedOut replied to Firegirl43's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I read this and started to cry for you. My diagnosis has been sudden and unexpected since I am very asymptomatic. I sat in the parking lot of the grocery store after a monumental 2 hour shopping trip and cried. We will get the hang of this and it will get easier (my new mantra). We will have teary moments but we deserve to indulge our emotions every...

In many of the recipes posted, there is a need for milk. Since some of us are DF and some aren't, when soy or rice milk is listed, can regular milk be substituted 1 to 1? Thanks for any insight. Julie

Judy - Super sorry to hear about your experience. Since this chain goes to such lengths to accomodate us, would you consider letting the manager know about your evening? Not to get the waitress in trouble, but to help others (and hopefully you too again) that go there.

ARCHIVED Is Celiac Gender Specific?IronedOut replied to chuikov's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Nobody replied to my post either!! But then I only posted it two mintues ago. That was joke. I love this board. Everyone has been helpful and kind.

I've been tested and found positive through blood test and biopsy. The GI doctor I saw was not someone I would necessarily go back to. If I'm living the good life and feeling fine, do you think there's any reason to go back? Or put in the time to find another doctor? My GP know as much (which seems to be darn little all the way around) when it comes to...

I had the Singapore Street Noodles, which are my absolute fav, and just asked them to hold the shrimp. The waitress didn't even bat an eylash. And I asked for my own spicy sauce setup. Spicy, spicy and yummy. I ordered the lettuce wraps for the whole table and they couldn't tell the difference! HA!!

I know most folks are aware of PF Chang's and the gluten-free menu they provide. But this was my first time since DX and it was really nice. I didn't feel like I had to explain things two or three times and be really worried about them not getting it anyway. And the waitress even explained it to another staff member when I asked for extra wheat-free...

Did you replace the foods with gluten or just drop grains altogether? I dropped a lot of weight because of the malabsorption issues, but seem to have leveled off now that my iron is in better shape. I have only been gluten-free since 12/05.
