  1. I noticed that the 2006 Celiac Walk is getting started Open Original Shared Link and wondered if anyone from the area was going or wanted to go as team? I'm going to do this and thought it would be great to meet some of the faces behind the postings.
  2. Those of us that have few classic symptoms usually get diagnosed after years of silent damage as a result of the linked issues. Chronic anemia, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, etc. It is also really difficult to tell when you've been glutened.
  3. They list a store in York which is only an hour from me!! When the weather turns warm, I'll have a destination for our Sunday drives in the convertible. Thanks for the info.
  4. In a lot of the literature I've been gathering, canned baked beans are specifically listed as no-nos. But I've read through a lot of threads where people have suggested them as great carry alongs. I'm totally inclined to take the advice from this group, given the real world nature of our 'testing'. Just wondering why it would be listed so specifically...
  5. That is an interesting development. Does she know if this is individual to each company's plan? I will call my carrier, see what's up and post soon.
  6. Blue cheese seems to be one of those maybe things. Originally, the culture was made using bread but is now often made with a synthetic medium. This is the thread that I started with the same Q. Lots of helpful responses. Open Original Shared Link I don't think gorgonzola is an issue, but maybe someone else can confirm that for sure.
  7. i was there in december. and have been back several times since then. i went shopping at the local health food store and spent way too much on goodies (gluten-free of course) that i could have! didn't help my budget or my waistline, but i at least felt 'normal' again. it took a couple of weeks for me to get out of the funk enough to start planning a proper...
  8. It's one of the Channel Islands in the UK.
  9. I'll be in Atlanta in a couple of weeks and have to join a large group at the Atlanta Fish Market. Do they have gluten-free normally or did you have to explain?
  10. Hey stef 4 dogs - Look at you go!! Glad you did hang with us. Great advice for Lemonade. Here is the link to the lists on Delphi. It is another Celiac forum so you'll have to register but it is free. Open Original Shared Link Keep asking the questions. Folks here have been through a lot so there's a pretty good chance someone will have an answer...
  11. Did you have a machine before to compare the new cycle?
  12. Thanks Elonwy - Hopefully, my Chinese friends can help clarify.
  13. Has anyone tried to use the Japanese card? My friend took it to a sushi restuarant to see if I could go next time (isn't he sweet!) and the hostess said the card was written in Chinese. I've only had the cards for about two weeks and haven't been out otherwise (I'm so spineless about being picky). I'm going to my old favorite Chinese restuarant next...
  14. Not sure I'd consider it mastered, but I have made bread in my machine with success. It does not have a gluten-free cycle, but they seem to do okay anyway. I tried the Gluten Free Pantry mix first. The taste was fine but it was a little airy at the top. I switched to the Bob's Red Mill mix and got a more consistent loaf, which I have used a number of...
  15. Hi - First, welcome to the board. Glad you found it. Everyone here is very helpful and supportive. This is a link to another thread that lists the full panel. Open Original Shared Link I had considerable irons issues which relate to the damage in the intestine. Damaged villi do not absorb well. The oats issue is still a hot topic. The contamination...
  16. This one came from tarnelbarry a couple of days ago. " the black bean dip I usually make is a can of black beans, some oil packed sun dried tomatoes, chili powder, cayanne powder, garlic (or garlic powder), and salt to taste, blended up in a food processor. but there's a bunch of variations on this theme! " I planned on making it for our Super Bowl...
  17. Hi - Lots of people here have gone through the weight loss after starting the diet. I'm not one of them and can't give you an insight, but keeping checking back. You'll get plenty of suggestions and support.
  18. Wegman's has seriously expanded - they are now in NJ, MD, VA and DE. Yeah! Spoke to quickly - coming SOON to Delaware.
  19. I had to wait on my biopsy results, but they recommended a gluten-free diet just from the visual on the endoscopy. There are yogurts out there, just be sure to read the label! Hey Al - If you don't name the grocery store, you're just a tease!!
  20. Thanks Richard. How reactive are you to getting glutened? I think I am very sensative to the gluten in terms of villa destruction but very non-reactive in terms of symptoms to tell when I've goofed.
  21. This is the link to Celiac on the Delphi Forum. You'll need to register but it's free. Open Original Shared Link I was overwhelmed and eating nothing but lettuce after my diagnosis. The lists provide guidance on mainstream brands that have been identified as gluten free, but you will find that reading ingredient lists has become a way of life...
  22. I've seen blue cheese listed in several places as a no-no and was wondering why? I'm guessing that some grain product is used to make the 'blue' in the cheese? Adding to my confusion is the list of safe meals my friends brought back from a restaurant called The Macaroni Grill. On it was their blue cheese salad.
  23. Can you ask what's in the food without saying why you need to know? Maybe you're just the curious type? I'm with you on the bunny food thing. I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain just to eat lettuce! But I'm learning to like it a lot more when it's all there is to eat. I think I like more vegetables now than I used to so I guess that...
