    ARCHIVED Varicose Veins

My grandmother had this problem with vericose veins at a young age. She is gone now, but the more I learn, the more I am sure she had celiac. sorry I'm not more help! She also had terrible thyroid problems and had it removed.
  2. Welcome to the board. Glad you got a diagnosis. I'm starting an elimination diet with my daughter now. It's hard to get a handle on. Do you know of a good web source to start with?
  3. The lastest peice of the puzzle is that megan may have an eosiniphilic disorder causing her choking and gagging. The GI specialist wants to do a scope to test for it. I think we're finally where we should have been a year ago. Half the drs. say it's too hard on her heart and the ohter half say it would be no issue. I just don't know what to do. If she...
  4. I also had preeclampsia with my first, but not my second. He was born very skinny and had problems from the beginning. My second pregnancy was uneventful and my daughter was chubby. She had a heart defect that required surgery. I think the surgery set off her celiac. I have had the joint pain issues all my life with no diagnosis, but since going gluten...
  5. We just figured out that dairy is making our daughter constipated. you might try eliminating this.
  6. We love the Envirokids animal crackers too. They're also egg and dairy free, like Meg. Gerber has the fruit that is like styrofoam. It's just apples, bananas, and strawberries that are freeze dried. I thought the wagon wheels had gluten too. I'll have to read again!
  7. I agree. A gluten challenge at this age would be for naught, especially if you have already seen the results through breast feeding. Testing is so inaccurate at his age. We've done avocado with my daughter with great success. We're working up to other foods.
  8. My daughter had all the classic symptoms to the Nth degree, but drs. refused to test her. She has a heart defect and will have her 2nd sugery this summer. Everything was blamed on her heart. I'm pumping for her since she won't nurse. I went gluten free and 90% of her symptoms disappeared. It was truly amazing. She's 13 mos, but can't tolerate foods...
  9. Bless your heart! What a week. I hope he's much better soon. I have always had problems with strep. If I ever get really run down, I end up with strep. A friend of mine has had it so many times that the drs. say she's a carrier. She has it even when she's not infectious. I think my Dad has celiac, though no testing has been done yet. He had strep...
  10. We started off having both foods, but it's just too stressful. My kids are soooooooo sensitive to any cc at all that it just wasn't worth it. Those without celiac can keep their gluteny snacks at work!
  11. Whenever we go through this, I usually find womething that has been reformulated and now contains gluten. Log Cabin Syrup was the last one. We have a gluten-free house, so cc isn't a problem. My son't D when glutened is very pale and almost undigested. That's the biggest difference I see. I can't tell you about yout son, these are just my experiences...
  12. I have been right where you are with both of my kids and your daughter's story is much like mine. My daughter ended up having a fundoplication done that came undone in just 6 weeks. They did the surgery to stop the reflux, but they didn't even consider what might have started the reflux to begin with. I started the gluten-free diet while breast feeding...
  13. Envirokids animal crackers act as a good teether type cookie. Fritos corn chips are also good for "knawing". I've tried a LOT of breads. I think the ones I make myself are a lot better and my fav brands are Cause You're Special and Pamela's. The Cause You're Special yellow cake mix is out of this world too!
  14. Just to echo the others, gluten, even in tiny amounts passes through breast milk. My daughter is breastfed and was deathly ill last summer. At the time my son was being tested for celiac and I begged drs. to test her, but they blamed the fact that she is a heart baby with all her issues. I went gluten free and saw drastic improvements over night. The...
  15. My son's tests were also negative, but his drastic improvement with the diet makes the dr. think that it was a false negative. Have you done gene testing to rule out celiac? WE did since none of the other testing was conclusive. We used prometheus. It was $$$, but made us feel like we were heading nthe right direction when we saw he had the genes. Same...
  16. It took my son about 3 weeks to get better with the D, but other things improved more rapidly. It's so easy to make mistakes in the beginning. I finally got so stressed about cross contamination, I just made our house gluten free. He gets sooo sick if something even touches his food. We have to be really careful. I'm so glad you're already seeing some...
  17. My husband developed diabetes while in college. I kept pushing him to go to the Dr., but he said he just wanted to get through finals first. He ended up being hospitalized the week before finals with sugars over 800. Follow your gut. If you're wrong, then great. If not, then you can get her the help she needs. His brother also has diabetes, but before...
  18. Just wanted to jump in on the breastfeeding bandwagon. Percentages aside, I breast fed my son until he was 20 mos and still going on my daughter at 13 mos. Both have celiac. The biggest issues I see with formula is that neither of them could/can tolerate any of them at all. I would highly recommend breastfeeding for that reason. If your child does fall...
  19. If the diet is helping, you're doing great. She may need some vitamin supplements, so get a good gluten-free vitamin. My son loves gummy vites and they say gluten-free on the package. I'm glad you figured this out so easily. Most of us have horror stories! Welcome to the board!
  20. I used to get them all the time and they would be violent and hurt, but seem to be better since gluten-free. My kids' GI says they can be a sign of reflux.
  21. Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!! I know exactly how you feel. Isn't it great?
  22. Thankfully, my husband has been supportive, but other family members were not. After going gluten-free and seeing the difference in our kids, though, they are on the bandwagon too. If my son eats something that has even touched gluten, he gets D really bad. That's pretty good motivation to not cheat. He's 3 and if he eats anything new he'll ask "Will...
  23. Baby Magic is good. The plain ol J&J stuff is good, but call if you have any doubts. I'm floundering in the bubble bath dept. too. Watch out for lotions too. Curel caused a major reaction in my daugher that took a while to figure out. Now using Lubriderm. Glad he's doing better!
  24. Neither of my kids could/can tolerate any formula and both had/have a dairy allergy and celiac. My son outgrew his allergy, but daughter still has hers. They both had intestinal bleeding as a reaction to the dairy allergy. The most common formulas for sensitive kids are Nutramagen, Alimentum, Pregestimil, Elecare and Neocate. Those are in the US, not...
  25. I don't think it's necessarily related to celiac, but kids are awful about it. My daughter only has 5 teeth and she grinds them!
