ARCHIVED 19 Month Old W/ Failure To Thrive
TCA replied to mom2fiveblueyebabes's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think there is anything wrong with doing the tests, just know that they might not be conclusive. My son had 2 negative biopsies and inconclusive bloodwork, but the diet trial was our answer. Each parent has to make their own decsions. If you do blood work, make sure they test for: EMA-IgA tTg-IgA Total serum IgA AGA-IgA AGA-IgG It's also... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, we just got back from the gastric emptying study and it's not good news. She is refluxing constantly and aspirating frequently into her right lung. There is so much damage done by the fundo coming undone, they don't think anything can be done short of another fundo. The radiologist agreed that the fundo shouldn't have been done in the first place... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
TCA replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to say that I'm still a bit skeptical of enterolab. I've taken a printout of the website to 3 drs. - pediatrician, ped. GI and an allergist - and all said it wasn't a good test. I'm NOT saying Drs. are always right, but it concerns me that I can't find anyone in the med. community that thinks enterolab really works. Anyone else come up against this... -
ARCHIVED Putting Topic At The Top Of A Forum

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
TCA replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think the limit is one per day here. We are OVERRUN with deer, so it's a population control thing. If that was the law in AL, half the state would be in jail! I'm not advocating anything outside the rules here at all. My family is full of hunters, but they all hunt by the rules, with mercy, and good sportsmanship. I detest those who don't!!! ... -
ARCHIVED Little Blisters On Hands? Dh?
TCA replied to sarahelizabeth's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I just went to a dermatologist about this last month. She was very helpful and suspects DH because I get them if I ever eat gluten accidentally. I get them primarily on my hands, but occasionally on my feet, behind my knees and inside my elbows. She couldn't biopsy because i only had a couple blisters between my fingers, but she said to call if I eat gluten... -
ARCHIVED Baby Of Celiac Parent: How Should She Be Tested?
TCA replied to alexisb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My nursing daughter showed symptoms, so I went gluten-free and she improved. Since she was off gluten, we did the gene test through prometheus. I'm a little confused as to the difference in prometheus and enterolab. Prometheus tests for 2 genes, DQ2 and DQ8. Enterolab seems to test for multiple ones. Her GI didn't think enterolab was a good idea and... -
ARCHIVED Is It Just Me? But Some Of This Stuff Seems A Bit Overkill.
TCA replied to jacklyn1981's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kraft will always list gluten in the form of Wheat, Rye, Barley, or Oats in their ingredient lists. I buy thier Light Ranch. Hidden Valley is NOT gluten-free! What grocery store do you use? We might could help point out some items for you. -
ARCHIVED Is It Just Me? But Some Of This Stuff Seems A Bit Overkill.
TCA replied to jacklyn1981's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm in the south too and gravy and biscuits was my FAVORITE food, but guess what, I STILL HAVE THEM!!!!! Took me a while to figure it all out, but I found Cause You're Special Biscuit mix and have biscuits all the time. The gravy can be made with Rice flour (or other) instead of regular. I use Authentic foods brand. Bob's Red Mill is easier to get, but... -
ARCHIVED First Endoscopy
TCA replied to shai76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son has had 3 and they really weren't a big deal. The worst part was the IV, but it was cake after that. We did have one bad experience that I want to share, not to scare you, but to prepare you. One time the medicine didn't put him completely out, just made him very loopy. they went ahead with the procedure and that just killed me. He didn't remember... -
I get on the message board when I'm pumping and realized the other day that if I give up pumping, I'll probably be giving up Celiac.com too, at least partially!!! I just don't have this much time otherwise. I guess pumping is a good excuse!

If there is a topic that is giving info about how to start a gluten-free diet, could it be put at the top of the topics list in the Recovery/treatment forum? I'm sure there are other info type topics taht would be good to stick at the top of the forums permanently to help new folks find pertinent info. I'm on other message boards where this is done and...

An obstruction sounds like an impaction. We once had a foster son with horrible uncontrollable D. Turned out he had an obstruction the size of a grapefruit and some D was leaking around it. He had no control because the impaction had taken the urge away. You really need to be see soon!!!!!!!

ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks Judy, She's 14 mos. old, 16 lbs. The milk and egg allergies are not severe and not even really confirmed. She had a negative skin allergy test, put a Moderatley positive RAST tests, so I'm eliminating them to be sure. I'm also eliminating corn and rice for a trial right now. She gets a little corn here and there because of the meds I'm on... -
I'm in AL, close to Huntsville. My hubby and I are both 30, with a 3 y/o and a 1y/o. Both kids have celiac and we think that I do. I'm feeling much better gluten-free. Momma Lisa - where are you?

ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
TCA replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I may have a partial solution to your organic price woes: I know this may sound crazy to those of you who don't live in the country, but have you ever tried venison? My family is full of hunters and we have venison all the time. It is so lean and healthy. I just use it like beef to make about everything. It's definately organic and a great source of... -
ARCHIVED I Must Be So Behind On Finding This
TCA replied to JacobsMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow - have to look for that. I also made a find at an oriental market for sweet rice flour and rice flour. VERY cheap. haven't tried it yet, but stuck it in the freezer for future use. -
ARCHIVED Experiment With Whole Foods' gluten-free Bread
TCA replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like your idea, will have to try it. Do you ever bake your own bread. I started baking Pamela's and it's soooo good. It's on sale right now for $20 for a case of 6. you can't beat that on this diet. -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Judy, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Megan has pulmonary atresia with a large VSD. Her surgery is planned for 8/15. She also has celiac and a milk and egg allergy and severe reflux I'll be glad to order it with the info. I really appreciate you checking on this. Tanya -
Dairy can be very constipating, especially cheese. If I eat dairy, Megan gets constipated. I used to eat raisin bran for this problem - so much for that now!! Prune juice an prunes really do work great, though. Yummy!

ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
TCA replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks Judy - you're always making others feel better even when you feel terrible. Well, the cardiologist checked Megan out today and didn't have a lot different to say. Her BP was good and her O2 sats was 76, so still above the 69 mark that means surgery early. I told him I thought she was starting to swell. he poked around and said it wasn't swelling... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed - Is This Normal?
TCA replied to Lisa8439's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
don't expect results for a few weeks. It was 3 weeks for my son for the D to even stop. We've tried to start a new thread to help. Open Original Shared Link Hope you're feeling better soon. -
I use teh Member's mark acetaminophen from Sam's. It's gluten-free. Hope you feel better soon!!!!!

My daughter was soooo pale before going gluten-free. She's now rosey. This was because she was severly anemic. My son's color is better too. I didn't realize how bad he looked until he got better! He just looked kind of sallow before. He's working on a nice tan after being out all the time playing (with sunscreen, of course)
