ARCHIVED Gluten Free In-flight Meals?
teankerbell replied to erin24's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I would just bring my own stuff, that way you know what you are getting. Airline food is not great to begin with and they have gotten very skimpy about it too. -
I went to a Red Robin in Lincolnshire IL and the waitress went ABOVE and BEYOND to get me a list of gluten-free stuff. When she served the food, she stayed to make sure it was the way I wanted it. THEN the manager came by to make sure the food was prepared properly for me. I had not reaction. I had a great customer service experience. I ordered a burger...

ARCHIVED Boyfriend With Celiac(need Some Input)
teankerbell replied to spyderbabe's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am not able to eat Gluten, but my DH is considerate and limits eating the Non-gluten-free stuff when I am around. Chocolate and cheese is probably the hardest for me to see. Oh and the smell of Pizza, that was hard when he put that in the oven. But I had to leave so I didn't have to suffer too much! To me, it really doesn't bother me much because I... -
ARCHIVED Preparing For Our Summer Vacation (any Info Would Be Wonderful!)
teankerbell replied to Sagesmama's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
If you are staying at a hotel, explain the situation ask if they can provide you a little fridge and microwave. They should be able to accomodate you. As far as the park type places, you should be able to bring in your own food - but call to make sure. Or pack the food in a cooler, leave it in the car and when hungry go eat. If you can avoid eating the... -

teankerbell replied to mrsnj91's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Go to Whole Foods website and print out the gluten-free list. There are a LOT of gluten-free items there. Shelves are clearly labeled gluten-free for those items. Just to be sure, read the ingredients label. Envirokids PB crunch cereal! -
ARCHIVED Holy Day Of Obligation - Ash Wednesday
teankerbell replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought the same thing that Killrn said, if you have a med. condition, you are absolved from having to follow it. Call the rectory to be sure. -
Yep I had a great experience there to. The Chocolate Thunder is gluten-free and WONDERFUL!

ARCHIVED Do You Eat It If It Doesn't Say "gluten-free"?
teankerbell replied to gemma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I have been trying Mainstream stuff. I tried Fritos (which I deemed safe - corn, corn oil and salt) for 2 days and they bothered me both times. The first day I felt nauseous, yesterday it hurt my stomach. So I am figuring the corn oil is probably contaminated with gluten. -
ARCHIVED Negative Results
teankerbell replied to lemonade's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes my blood test was negative. Stool test was positive for gluten sensitivity, the celiac gene and casein. My doctor says that the blood test and biopsy are not always reliable, no test is. He feels if you feel better getting off gluten, then you have your answer. Good luck. -
ARCHIVED Shampoo & Conditioner
teankerbell replied to shellhoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dove and Pantene. At least you can understand the ingredients. But after corresponding with the companies, just check the labels. The ingredients can change. -

ARCHIVED Apt. With Nutritionist Last Night
teankerbell replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree - staying off the Celiac subject might be the best thing. Even if she asks. Just be brief about it and make light of it. Like "Oh, up and down - the usual at least that is how it will be for a while", something like that and change the subject. Like some one posted here: she may be in denial and she isn't ready to process this or understands... -
ARCHIVED Apt. With Nutritionist Last Night
teankerbell replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Dani It's me... At least you got a good start on the nutrition thing. In the meantime, you might want to find a nutritionist who really understands Celiac and all the food intolerances that go with it. It seemed like you knew more than she did and that isn't good. You are paying for a service, so you can fire her. As far as Mom's go ... -
ARCHIVED Amy's Pasta Sauce
teankerbell replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had problems with Amy's salsa and yes most of their frozen stuff is not gluten-free. I emailed Ragu and asked if their sauces were gluten-free and they said they were but to check the ingredients often as they could change. So that might be an option. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
teankerbell replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My stool test from Enterolab came back positive, but blood results were negative. So conflicting results. My doctor says that test results are not always reliable and feels that if you feel better off gluten then you have your answer. How long have you been gluten-free? If you happen to be gluten-free for over 8 months, the stool test could come out... -
