ARCHIVED Recommend A Doctor In You State

Another vote for Craig Lubin in Austin
  2. Karen - glutened from which one? Braker? 290? I've been safe at both... Otherwise, it's possible about cc, it's always possible. I also had an upset stomach after not eating fried food for a long time, though...
  3. That's a question your ob/gyn would best be able to answer
  4. 8-10 is reccommended.
  5. I'm sorry you're sick The promethazine (phenergan) will help you get relief, though. I hope they figure out what's wrong soon, gluten is often not the/only problem.

    ARCHIVED Ileum Question

OK, I was just diagnosed with Crohn's, so not to make everything into Crohn's, but... Did they remove the section of your ileum because of Crohn's disease? Beacause the majority of Chron's disease occurs in the ileum and it's not all that uncommon to remove sections of the intestine when they don't respond to treatment. Have you been on management medications...
  7. I managed a reasonable facsimile to green bean casserole! Sure, it required a half hour of peeling and slicing pearl onions...I also used health valley cream of mushroom soup and thickened it, but I think next time I'll make it from scratch using a roux from Annalise Roberts' flour blend. Anyway: 1 lb. Fresh pearl onions, peeled and sliced...
  8. Aww, my chicken recipe (which is really a ranch version of Nini's chicken) The bell & evans chicken nuggets are truly awesome, completely worth it.
  9. So I had my appointment yesterday, and it went more or less as I expected. The poor PA looked so sad and awkward that she had to deliver the news. She explained the whole thing to me, and of course I have to get a colonoscopy to see what the damage really is . She said the only other thing that could possibly inflame, ulcerate, and narrow my ilium...
  10. Rum is made from sugar cane, and tequila from cactus (agave, if it's genuine) Elonwy: I never thought about vodka and a wheat allergy. Crud.
  11. I wouldn't worry *too* much about it if you're feeling good. I, for example, feel about 60% better gluten-free, but I started having different pain and that's why my dr. decided to check it out. Keep in mind that nobody ever thought to check more extensively for it, because I never had an elevated WBC count, and no blood in my stool. My GI doc ordered a small...
  12. I puffy heart American Smarties <3 I also puffy hearted the Canadian/British Smarties, but alas, our relationship is over. They went the way of the twiglet for me, stupid gluten Great, now I have to go buy some of those yummy placebos Do they have pixie stix in Canada? Because smarties are kind of like pixie stix pressed into a tablet
  13. We buy those chicken filets at Sam's every month, and I've never had a problem.
  14. I don't know about why the IgG elevates with Crohn's in some people, that's just what I've read and what I've been told by my dr's, that the IgG is the least specific and it can mean other things, most often Crohn's. So who knows. I'm just not thinking about anything until Monday, after my appointment. No need to stress out over it yet.
  15. Actually, Crohn's would make an enormous amount of sense. I'm sure I've had this as long as I've been sick, and while being gluten-free alleviates some of the problems, it doesn't get rid of them entirely. This would also explain the ridiculously painful spasms I get. I had an idiot GI doc a few years back that should have tested more extensively for it....
  16. It is totally gluten-free, as are most fiber supplements. My gastroenterologist has me on fibercon, which is also gluten-free, and it does seem to help.
  17. It's one of the legitimate irritable bowel diagnoses It's characterized by narrowing, inflammation, and blockages of the intestines. I guess they saw some kinks in my hose It has very similar symptoms, what made Fab GI look for it is that my D hasn't gone away completely and I have burning in my small intestine. Good call, looks like. As...
  18. So the small bowel follow through x-ray showed findings "consistent with Crohn's Disease" Fabulous. I have an appointment on Monday with Fab GI's PA to discuss my "options." I assume that means more testing and trying out meds. Man, this blows. I'm going to be on medication for the rest of my life. This has been a very. bad. day. Of...
  19. Today: The chinese place that is accomodating to celiacs put regular fried rice in with my gluten-free meal. I ate probably two bites of the rice, stupid me. I'm itchy and with an upset stomach...blech!
  20. I saw my super fantabulous gastro today, and he reccommended that I get a small bowel follow through x-ray because I have some burning in my small intestine and they didn't see a cause in the endoscopy. Um, anyway, what is this test like? How long does it take? And how horrible will the effects of this milk of magnesia I just took be? TIA.
  21. I'm in the minority, but I HATED it. It had a funny taste and texture to me.
  22. I developed a wheat/gluten allergy suddenly, and had hives constantly. It sucked. Allergy testing is probably your best bet, failing that, an elimination diet. BTW, I'm not allergic to ANY grasses, ironically.
  23. Allergies are an entirely different animal from intolerances and celiac. They produce different antibodies, for one. An allergy creates an IgE response, while celiac produces IgA, IgG (so do other things), and TTg. I, for example, have celiac (or really likely celiac, but my dr's call me celiac so I'll go with it), BUT (and this is a big but) I'm also...
  24. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Congrats to you both and I hope you have a very speedy recovery!
  25. Holy crap! The second one about gave me a dang heart attack. I hate the internet in October.
