All of my earthy-crunchy-hippy friends say keefer, so I say it that way too I had the hardest time wrapping my brain around liquid yogurt, but I got over it. It's tasty and good for you!

ARCHIVED Snickers...
penguin replied to chgomom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It was probably either caffiene from the chocolate or the massive amounts of sugar. At any rate, from what I understand, all sizes of "everyday" snickers are gluten-free. It's the holiday ones that can get tricky, I remember from easter that the mini eggs (that came in an egg carton type of package) have gluten, but not the flat eggs. -
ARCHIVED How Much Juice Does Your Toddler Drink?
penguin replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What really irks me is when I see juice in baby bottles and the toddler running around with it in his mouth all day. No wonder the kid is sick. -
You didn't irk me, what I said actually had little or nothing to do with you. I was a general statement and directed at no one in particular. I didn't even mean to seem irked, but many times people write things off based on incorrect information or one bad manager. People also may not realize that they have other problems with foods unrelated to gluten. It...

ARCHIVED So I Checked The Pebbles Boxes...
penguin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just to help clear up any confusion... I was at the grocery store this morning and I checked the boxes of both Fruity and Cocoa pebbles... They are both STILL GLUTEN-FREE!!! I didn't check the date on the boxes, but it's a busy store so I'm sure they restock often. The ingredients haven't changed on the website either. Be advised, however, that the... -
Firstly: In the US, Lea & Perrins is gluten-free. It is not gluten-free in Canada. Is there any chance your supplier would use Canadian products? Secondly (and this is to everybody): Please do not make sweeping statements based on one experience, without any research, or based on rumor. My advice here is lurk and learn. If you have a problem at...

ARCHIVED You're Know You're A Celiac If...
penguin replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
- You buy immodium in bulk - Your purse is a pharmacy, and people wonder where the baby is, because surely a purse that big is a diaper bag. - You get really excited when you find mini bottles of air freshener - You use gluten as a verb - You actually bought a "travelling kitchen" full of cooking utensils to use at other people's houses, because... -

Drive by! DH's friends are here eating chips and playing cards. *yawn* not a fan of card games. Um, I would be a clown then, because I don't leave the house without makeup on! My mamma raised me right! MAKEUP AT ALL TIMES!! Keep in mind the southernness...besides, I look like a rat without makeup. The Razorbacks won today!!! WOOT!!! I so expected...

It tasted like I was drinking the liquid in my inhaler. By the way...that isn't tasty. -
ARCHIVED Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa! I Need Your Help!
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, since I avoid gluten anyway. I get hives more from ingesting it than from getting it on my skin, although I get a rash when I touch it also. If I eat wheat I get hives EVERYWHERE, but if I touch it, it's localized. But yes, this is just for the skin reaction. Susan - That's how I take it also. I've read that it takes weeks for the full effect,... -
ARCHIVED Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa! I Need Your Help!
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The baking section is 6 weeks long, but that doesn't count other times I will have to bake things with flour in it. 6 weeks is the amount of time I'll have to spend in the baking room. I have good news, though. It works. Don't yell at me, I know what I'm doing, but: The only way for me and the allergist to know if it works is for me to eat wheat,... -
ARCHIVED Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa! I Need Your Help!
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, I don't think so. I'd still breathe it in, it would still get on my arms, etc. I get hives if I ingest or touch it. It's cromolyn sodium, it's not a common drug. It's primarily used for those with mastocytosis, where their MAST cells fire off all the time causing a constant histamine reaction. Gastrocrom stops the MAST cells from firing off... -

I know a lot of you are pissed at me right now, but I need your help. I went to my allergist yesterday and I've developed a secondary allergy to gluten. Goody. When I ingest gluten or touch gluten, I get hives. Not good. I'm going to culinary school in 3 months. Therefore, the allergist has me trying gastrocrom to see if it will allow me to be able... -

OK, I've gotten some inquiries as to why I'm leaving. I promise, it's not any one person, it's not any one thread, it's not any one post. I ignored threads, posts, and inflammatory people as long as I could. The turning point came when I began to have to ignore most posts, most threads. There was a lot of bickering, accusations, and conspiracy theories that...

Just letting you all (that care) know that I'm leaving the board, for now anyway. I just feel that in the last several weeks, the board has moved from a place of support to a place of radicalism. It seems like every other thread is something about a conspiracy, a looming threat, or some evil substance that's killing us all. Sorry, but I'm over it. This...

ARCHIVED Beware Of Dasani Water On Your Flight
penguin replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Exactly, that's what they were assuming. Never underestimate the power of terrorists. Sorry, rare intolerances aside, I would rather have to drink Dasani or go thirsty than have my plane blow up. Cissie was right, today is not the right day to have this arguement. The terrorists in those four planes really really wanted to fly airliners into buildings... -
ARCHIVED Annalise Roberts - Choc Chip Cookies
penguin replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made them without chilling the dough first, and they turned out great! A lot of that depends on the humidity and how hot your house is.
