ARCHIVED Newbie Needs Advice Re: Diet!
penguin replied to Calicat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lactase is the enzyme produced by the ends of your villi to digest lactose, the sugar in milk. Lactase itself does not contain anything dairy, and is fine in supplements. -
How romantic I've gotten up in the middle of the night to eat something, but it's rare. I usually drink milk in those instances, because I can't stand to eat. Normally my blood sugar is pretty level by nighttime, and I usually snack so it's not a problem for me. Different for everyone.

penguin replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That was what I was thinking! Buttered toast and popcorn flavors are both on my "eww" list -
ARCHIVED We Can Have Buttered Toast!
penguin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK, it's a really gross flavor anyway, but... Buttered toast jelly bellys are now gluten-free!! The Clan Thompson list says that they now use beeswax to seal in the flavor, so now ALL JELLY BELLY jelly beans are gluten-free!!! -

Hopefully the treatment center she goes to will help her want to get better. That's the biggest hurdle. I hope you and your family can find some peace in all of this. -
I did it again! Yesterday morning I went to the store before work to get some chips (healthy, I know) and I stood outside my car in a near panic that I locked the keys in the car. They were in my friggin' hand. I think the peroxide is just seeping in

ARCHIVED Interesting Movements
penguin replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Silly question, but have you been drinking gatorade or kool-aid that's blue or green or purple? I've had that happen where it'd be totally green, or even blue! The blue was after way too much blue fratboy punch and jello... Other than that, it could be that your system is working too fast, and the bile (which is green) is moving through really quickly... -
I got home early and switched the tv on to Arthur (yes, I'm 22 years old and like Arthur ) Binky was diagnosed with a peanut allergy! They showed him getting mad and sad and then Bionic Bunny came to him in a dream and told him about his salt allergy and that food allergies aree ok to deal with! They showed him with an epi-pen when he was showing...

I'm not diabetic, just rective hypoglycemic. I finally broke down and bought a glucose monitor.... AND OUCH!!! It took four friggin' tries to get enough flippin blood to test! And I bought the teeny tiny amount monitor too... I guess I was too cold to bleed, but two tries were after rubbing my hands together, washing with hot water, and clapping...

ARCHIVED All Hail Chebe!
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fat and protein are good friends ... Cheese has got a pretty good amount of protein in it, though I don't have numbers in front of me. I'm thinking at least 4 grams protein per ounce for most cheeses like mozzarella and cheddar. You can also get low fat cheese, but make sure it's the 2% kind, the fat free cheeses have a bunch of sugar and salt and crap... -
ARCHIVED All Of The Healing Is Reversing
penguin replied to Lister's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Almost all adults have had mono, but many don't get symptoms. Why not check to see if you have mono? It causes the lymph node swelling and screws with your digestive tract. Just a thought. -

ARCHIVED All Hail Chebe!
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Luckily, cheese has protein and so does pepperoni and sausage I make pizza every Friday to help me keep my sanity! If I ate nothing but the breadsticks, I would have a problem, but in conjunction with spaghetti and meat sauce, it works fine. Seriously, I personally find that after lunch and into the evening, most of my hypoglycemia stuff... -
ARCHIVED All Hail Chebe!
penguin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made spaghetti for dinner and made Chebe breadsticks to go along with them. OH MY GOD THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!!! Crusty on the outside and airy and chewy on the inside...almost like real bread! I added the cheese and baked them on a baking stone (on parchment) DH and I (ok, mostly me) snarfed all 10 of them. I make pizza with chebe... -

If it's really dark you might want to get an occult blood stool test done to make sure you're not bleeding internally... -
ARCHIVED Prilosec Forever
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My endoscopy was 2 years ago and they only did one biopsy, and only in the actual stomach. He was checking for cancer, celiac wasn't mentioned, and I had never heard of it. That GI is in another state, so I'd have to find a new one. She said to stay on prilosec because I still have burning. It seems to work as long as I am gluten-free, so no worries there... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Graham Craker Thingys?
penguin replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link Those are by Ener-G, I've never tried them, though. You could smash her animal cookies (kids are so cute! ) and then toast them in the oven to make them more sandy, or maybe mix some cinnamon and sugar into them to make them darker. Actually, that sounds a whole lot better than graham crackers!!! -
ARCHIVED Fudgie The Whale?!
penguin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From their FAQ: Gluten? Most of our ice creams are gluten-free. However, the chocolate crunchies that are found in our ice cream cakes and the sprinkles put on top are not gluten-free. If you contact a Carvel retail store nearest you, they will be more then happy to substitute the crunchies for something else, such as fudge. They will also be more then... -
ARCHIVED Good Carrot Cake Or Cheesecake Recipe?
penguin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Open Original Shared Link I made that for DH last Saturday. It's very tasty, but I warn you, you need at least a 10" springform. Or even 2 9" ones, it's a huge batter! But again, very tasty! We're still working on eating all of it! -
LOL!!! You got it! Why is it shipping $4 sauce is $12? It's $11 in most of the country, but lucky me, I'm in Texas

I eat the gluten-free dry cereals as dessert at night most of the time. My blood sugar problems are usually just in the morning after eating. Mmmm....cereal The lundberg hot rice cereal is good, and I agree on the flaxmeal for that. It's tasty...well, as long as it's flavored well enough Caffene may or may not play into your hypoglycemia...

ARCHIVED Any Gluten-free Dry Cat Food?
penguin replied to eleep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Even if you inhale it through your nose, your sinuses drain into your stomach...ergo, gluten problem. I'm sure that would be a VERY delayed reaction, however.
