  1. I'm a girl scout leader, so I know what you're going through! When I was a scout and we went camping, we had things like tacos (hard shells) so that's an easy dinner, and as long as all of your ingredients are gluten-free, no contamination problems. For things more rustic, we used to make pouch meals on the fire with a hamburger patty, canned potatoes...
  2. I go to a lot of the ones you do, and also simply recipes. Open Original Shared Link I use a lot of the recipes provided by manufacturers, so I go to their sites!
  3. The IgA is 98% specific to Celiac disease, and I think the TtG is also. If your bloodwork is positive, you have celiac, bottom line. Your dr's are using outdated information, Georgetown or not... Don't do another biopsy! Here's my story, since you asked: I'm 22, married, and my 2 kids are covered in fur, have long tails, and meow a lot I...
  4. It's good ole fashioned lip balm, I like it because it's impossible to have chapped lips with it and it leaves a little shine...and it's cheap and gluten-free! Open Original Shared Link
  5. Let's put it this way, nobody is going to go and look up medical records except for a doctor, and another dr will probably look at his file and say celiac. Your girlfriends, family, teachers, and classmates are not going to look up records. They won't question you, and you shouldn't question you either. Doctors don't like diagnosing this because they...
  6. The RARE times I wear lipcolor of any kind, it's Clinique lip gloss (I checked). ...usually I just wear carmex. I do all of my other makeup, just not lips...
  7. So, I'm not adopted, but my father was. He was a twin, and both he and my uncle have died. Their adoptive mom is still around (my grandmother) but she refuses to speak to me. Long story about how my mom kicked out my alcoholic dad and kept me away from him and his family, although she did say if he ever sobered up he could come back. I think you can all guess...
  8. Karen, you're my hero Thanks for posting that!!!!!! I'm so psyched!!!
  9. My cookbook method is usually I'll look for one on amazon .com, then I'll search the book for a recipe. I'll try the recipe, then I'll buy the book based on whether I thought the recipe was good. I also try for the library, but they don't always have the ones I'm looking for. I'm also a huge fan of allrecipes.com And almost any dinner recipe can...

    ARCHIVED Amazing Stupidity

Thank you! Yeah, that's one of the candids from the wedding. DH and I have been married almost 9 mos! (I know that because my best friend just had her baby, and she found out she was preggers a few days before the wedding ) Heck yeah it's malpractice! Report them to the AMA at least! Or the BBB, heck, anybody. The AMA would be very interested to...
  11. The one in springdale is the same way, if it makes you feel any better.
  12. My local megamart has the big tub of plain, but I've seen it at wild oats or sun harvest. Open Original Shared Link Hope that helps
  13. I've been gluten-free for almost two months and I lose it at least once a week. My DH is really supportive, but I know he worries. He expected me to be emotional for a while. I also cry every time I get glutened, I think depression is a symptom for me. Hang in there, it is hard to change everything, and to know it's permanant. What keeps me going is that...
  14. Eat lots of yogurt. I reccommend Cascade Fresh, it has 8 live cultures. Good luck!

    ARCHIVED Amazing Stupidity

I get the impression that doctors don't have the internet. Google "celiac disease" and in 5 minutes you can know all that you need to know. Some doctors just think they don't need to research with the little people, being that they are Medical Dieties What horsepoop. Good thing your sister didn't go in to get tested for cancer, eh? Good thing...
  16. You've got all of that straight so far As far as the blue corn chips, just read the ingredients. I generally only buy chips with three ingredients (corn, oil, salt) because that's all that should be in tortilla chips, IMO. Other useful things to keep you from starving.... Kraft, Unilever, General Mills, and other companies (I'm sure others...
  17. You could cream some turkey by using a normal creamed turkey recipe (like in Joy of Cooking) and subbing cornstarch for the flour and rice milk for milk. Saute with onions and garlic and mushrooms, yum! Never tried it that way, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'd post the recipe, but I don't have my cookbook handy. From there, you can do all kinds...
  18. It's the high-fiber, leafy greenness that causes the gas. Cabbage and other strong cell-walled veggies will do it to you too! You get the loud poots with veggies, not the silent-but-deadlies
  19. I did it like I made my crushed saltine version before dx... Season pieces and dredge in flour (I don't remember what I used last time), then dip in beaten egg, and then into seasoned potato flakes (I posted the ranch version on here at some point). I also drizzle the butter over the pieces instead of the bottom of the pan. Works every time, and the...
  20. There are other, erm, means of taking phenergan. I have the suppositories for when it feels like I'm digesting glass and I can't keep anything down. At that point, I don't think it matters if they're gluten-free/cf or not.
  21. I was on ortho tri for a long time, but I switched to desogen when I got engaged, because I wanted to control when my periods were before the wedding, and during and after. Seasonale and desogen are the same drug, packaged differently. Switching was fine, but I think it slowed down my drive. I take the kariva now, too.
  22. Mine is a tribal swirly design thingy with a blue butterfly over it on the small of my back. It's clearly an "I was 17" tattoo, and I think I would hate it if I didn't need whiplash and a full length mirror to see it Still looks good, never sees sunlight, and the artist was fantastic!
  23. Unless you're allergic to wheat on your skin (ie: allergist skin scratch testing), it shouldn't matter. When you get a tattoo, the metal-based ink goes between the layers of skin and stays there. Even if the ink did have gluten, and somehow made it into your bloodstream, you shouldn't have any ill effects. Gluten actually has to be ingested for a celiac...
  24. Its my understanding that distilling takes all of the gluten out of the grain, since by distillings very nature proteins like gluten are too big to get through. However, some Celiac's have problems with vinegar and other distilled things, regardless of the source, but it doesn't have to do with gluten. It's more a reaction to the vinegar, etc. itself...
