  1. Hang in there, and please keep us posted. Hoping for the best....
  2. Yup, sorry about that! Spray the pan or pans with PAM (NOT the kind with flour in it!), and then dust with cornmeal.
  3. Studies show measurable damage can occur to the intestines with as little as 1/16 of a slice of bread. And, yes, many here have had dramatically WORSE symptoms from accidental gluten ingestion after having gone gluten-free. Whatever you are eating now, that is working so well for you, is what you should eat on your vacation. If you have to bring food...
  4. Di, how long have you been gluten-free? I had to keep increasing my synthroid--from .1 all the way to .175, and still felt hypo--and then discovered the gluten problem. Every couple of months, my synthroid dose then had to be lowered. I am now on .112 (for 8 months!) and feeling normal. Apparently, because of the leaky gut, I wasn't absorbing the...
  5. Well, I'm hoping that you're pregnant, and not hitting a really early menopause or perimenopause (ever notice how all our problems begin with "men?" Menopause, Menstruate, Mental, ...) You might also want to keep your eyes open for possibility of an ectopic pregnancy. If you have pain near an ovary (or both ovaries--happened to a friend of mine), PLEASE...
  6. I strongly disagree. I think you already have your answer. If the few crackers brought back his rash AND left him screaming in pain from a poop, then pure cream of wheat will make him even sicker. A reaction this severe in a child this young is not something to play with. STOP NOW, before you do him irreparable harm. If this were a peanut allergy...
  7. No worries, Jaime--I just wanted to make sure that any newbie reading this thread wouldn't get confused and think that all they needed was an allergy test!
  8. Unfortunately, allergy testing does NOT cover food intolerances, nor does it cover autoimmune disorders triggered by proteins such as gluten or casein. Allergy testing only tests for...allergies. If you have celiac disease, you are probably not allergic to wheat, and will test negative for wheat allergy. But eating wheat would be disastrous nonetheless...
  9. Timothy, I REALLY believe you need to cut out all milk products--maybe not forever, but at least until your intestinal issues are resolved. Contrary to popular belief, cow's milk products are extremely difficult to digest (unless you are a baby cow!), and if you have a gluten-damaged tummy, milk products will prevent it from healing. The villi in the...
  10. Thank you for posting this. You're right, it's very important for all to know. I'm awfully sorry you've had to endure such a nightmare, and hope things rapidly and permanently improve for you. I really admire that you are using your experience to help others, too! Can you recommend some web sites to learn more about mold and how to recognize its nasty...
  11. I grew up in the Northern suburbs (live in PA now), and there is a gluten-free store in Deerfield. I think it's actually called "the Gluten-free store."
  12. Wheat is easy. Make gluten-free bread (recipe to follow ). It tastes way better than Wonder bread. Make rice pasta instead of wheat (you don't even have to tell him, nobody can tell the difference). ***************************************************************** Make pizza from scratch using corn tortillas for crusts. Heat over high heat on...
  13. Is she eating large meals? If she has a history of reflux, or if she is like my kids, whose tummies don't get the "I'm full" message to the brain until they're OVER-full, then things can come back up. 6 small meals are better than 3 squares. You might try keeping a food diary to see if there's a pattern. Is there any possibility she might be sneaking...
  14. I'm so sorry about the miscarriages. I only had one, and it was devastating. Even if your bloodwork turns out negative, you might just try the gluten-free diet and see if things improve for you. The nasal allergies does have a relationship to gluten--most people here have reported that their allergy symptoms improved or disappeared after going gluten...
  15. Welcome, Timothy! Your doctor is an idiot. Of course the blood work would be negative if you've been gluten-free. They test for antibodies to gluten, which is something you don't produce if you're not eating it!!! There are other food sensitivities you may have developed, such as dairy, soy, etc. I've noticed that if I don't eat enough...
  16. First of all, welcome! Secondly, I am curious why you think you have gluten issues in the first place, besides for the nasal issues, which you say started after you went back on gluten? What symptoms did you have that steered you towards the idea of celiac? (And two slices of whole wheat bread might not be enough in such a short amount of time to trigger...
  17. Rachael, do you know if people with Lyme-induced gluten sensitivity have increased levels of zonulin? Or is it only true celiacs who have increased zonulin? AliB, you pose some VERY interesting questions and observations. But what about celiacs/gluten sensitive people who do NOT have severe intestinal problems, but instead have thyroid problems, or...
  18. I think that what AliB found might be true for a subset of those with celiac-type symptoms. We do know that some of the people on this board have or have had celiac symptoms that were directly traced to Lyme Disease, and they insist that they can now eat gluten without problems (or will be able to when their Lyme is gone). I have also read that the...
  19. I have been on Synthroid for 6 years, and have felt very good. I had been on Synthroid 20 years ago, with NOT good results, and had switched to Levothroid or Levoxyl, and done well on those, but then had trouble FINDING them. So, with misgivings (because of all I'd read on line), I went back on Synthroid--but to my surprise, I've done very well on it. ...
  20. Welcome! You have one of the FEW doctors who knows what he is doing AND isn't trying to make extra $$ by doing an unnecessary and invasive procedure on you just because insurance will cover it. The biopsy has long been touted as the"gold standard" of diagnosis of celiac. Many of us here think that that is perfectly ridiculous, as the blood tests and...
  21. I totally agree-and I believe the social development can happen from playdates and from the many classes (music, Mommy and Me, Gymboree, tumbling, dance, T-ball, art, swimming, etc.) offered for toddlers. I know many home-schooled children, although I did not home-school my own children. The home-schooled children I have met are not only totally socially...
  22. Actually, even if mom is sick, she should still breastfeed if possible, as she will be making antibodies to whatever made her sick, and those antibodies go directly into the milk to protect the baby. If mom is sick, then NOT breastfeeding is, from the baby's perspective, the worst thing that can happen. THen baby is suddenly NOT getting antibodies--and...
