  1. Oh, that happened to me a couple times--hated it! I think you can click on "my controls," (next to "view new posts") and then on "board settings," and fix it that way.
  2. Aha--looks like they are opening on September 15th! www.gluuteny.com
  3. If you already have a quilt you really like, just buy some cheap material to stitch on the end (that would be the part that you would be tucking in at the foot of the bed, so it wouldn't have to match), and that would then give you enough room at the top to go over the pillow.
  4. JNbunnie, what kind of tomato soup do you use? Campbell's has gluten.
  5. I called 1-800-FREE-411 and got the number for Gluuteny (which I left at work--sorry!), and called them. They have are waiting on red-tape stuff from the city of Pittsburgh, according to their answering machine, and hope to open very soon. I can't wait!!!
  6. I feel very, very hesitant to write this, as I may have totally the wrong impression. You sound calm and together, and like celiac and the gluten-free diet is not a Major Problem for you and your son right now. And you write that your husband told you that he is severely depressed, and that you feel guilty. But you didn't write anything about him behaving...
  7. How frustrating for you. I have never come across ANYTHING that said that DH could possibly be caused by anything other than celiac. Perhaps you could ask her where she read that? I think she's got it bass-ackwards. She's thinking that other autoimmune issues cause the DH, when really, I think it's the gluten intolerance causing both the DH AND the...
  8. I gave my kids flaked broiled salmon, soft tofu cubes, mashed sweet potatoes with a spoon, avocadoes (make sure they are very soft), tiny diced canned peaches, pears, and apricots as first foods. I did NOT do cheerios or puffs (and I knew nothing about gluten at the time)--I figure it should be all about nutrition, not junk. I am not judging you--I think...
  9. I can't help wondering how much research your colleague has done on diet and autism--the most shouted about and seemingly most promising dietary treatment for autism involves a gluten-free, casein-free diet. Have her look up Unlocking the Mysteries of Autism by Karyn Seroussi, and Special Diets for Special Kids by Lisa Lewis
  10. Especially with peanut butter!!
  11. Do you know, I actually like Lorka's flax bread better than Wonder Bread? My memory of Wonder Bread is that it was mushy and flavorless, like moistened sawdust...
  12. Let me guess: the price of gluten bread will soar--and the price of gluten-free products will continue to be 5-6 times the price of their gluteny counterparts...
  13. I already e-mailed them. Among other things, I pointed out that they could be considered responsible if someone eats their food, believing it to be gluten-free as advertised, and then has a serious reaction landing them in the ER.
  14. What is ground Lame Advertisement???
  15. Lots of good advice from everyone so far--it may seem a bit conflicting, but everybody has a valid point! I especially agree that you need to be eating protein, healthy fat, and 3 main meals (6 half-meals is idea). Good carbs are better than junk carbs, obviously. For myself, I find that exercise makes a HUGE difference. Can you fit in not one but...
  16. Perhaps we should all email or phone them? If we squeak enough....
  17. I think it IS possible to eat at restaurants and not get glutened--but the menu might get a little boring after a while! Then again, many of us have been complaining that what we prepare at home is getting a little boring! At a restaurant, you would have to request to speak to either the manager or the chef EVERY TIME, and be prepared to leave the...
  18. What custom settings do you use?
  19. Great suggestions, everyone! Only problem is, it sounds like 320 days is NOT going to have access to a good freezer to freeze that blue ice at night. Even renting a hotel fridge doesn't guarantee that you'll get one that has a working freezer compartment (they're usually those little dorm-cube fridges). When you are working all day, checking in a hotel...
  20. This is what I will try this year: Open Original Shared Link Enjoy it in good health!
  21. 320 DAYS A YEAR???!! What on earth is your career???? I think astronauts are home more than you! Hmm. Breakfast: hard-boiled eggs, or eggs fried to order (scrambled are often premixed with pancake batter to stay fluffy), gluten-free cereal in your room with milk. Lunch and dinner: salad (NO croutons!) and grilled meat, plain steamed vegies...
  22. Also check out www.laptoplunches.com--lots of good ideas there, most of which can easily be made gluten-free.
  23. I'm sorry I don't know anything about the lactase issue. But congrats on breastfeeding him--that can only be a good thing! It is certainly possible, though, that he might be reacting to gluten or casein that gets into your milk because of what you are eating. Cracklin' Oat bran contains wheat, too, so he might be reacting to gluten. I do wonder how...
  24. sorry, don't know any dermatologists in Seattle, but just wanted to warn you: I had 2 skin biopsies, but the dermatologist did NOT warn me that having been gluten-free for a month and having been on prednisone would screw up the test results. Also, the biopsies were quite deep, and left two pea-sized scars on my arm that are still red and obvious and...
