ARCHIVED Need Help Convincing Brother To Get Tested.
loco-ladi replied to Bravie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, here is another thought in case your bro isn't "a betting man" ask him to "help" you do some research, just know what he will find and "maybe" if his head isn't as thick as some men I know he will connect the dots and amazingly come to the possibility "all by himself" just remember not to say... "I told you so" -
So first you may need a bit of a briefing.... 7 years ago I went to "idiot dr" and got nothing solved, did my reasearch and figured it out on my own...attempt 1 and 2 failures but we are into year 2 of sucess (finally!) I had the opportunity to visit my local ER on an unrelated matter and guess who the ER Dr is that night.... yes mr idiot himself...

So I drove the 60 miles to my "local" health food store to see if they had improved their selection, good news is well, yes they did. So I am looking along their fully loaded (with one box of each) 4 foot shelf for some items to try so see if I like and found a few.... 2 of the more promising ones were a coupld boxes of flavored crackers (smokehouse and...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed--scared, Confused
loco-ladi replied to canadave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
well, dave for starters your "roller coaster ride" is over so there is your silver lining to this dark cloud Now you get to be in control of your health more than most people in the world are, you also get to learn more than most likely even your doctor knows about your condition! First if you decide to wait for the rest of the testing you can... -
ARCHIVED Which Relatives To Test?
loco-ladi replied to ChemistMama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
any children would be where I would start, then go to the childrens parents... assuming one of the parents passed it to the child that parent should let his/her siblings know as well as their parents... follow the chain backwards.... I have it, my cousin on my mohters side has it....... pretty sure my mother has it but she is in denial and my sister most... -
ARCHIVED How Much Of B12 And Magnesium?
loco-ladi replied to motif's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
everyone eats a different diet, I may like one thing that you hate... I suggest getting your doctor to give you a blood test to see what nutrients you are lacking and add those. I only needed calcium, b and folic acid -
ARCHIVED Withdrawal Symptoms
loco-ladi replied to Octoberme's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dietary response would indicate you should get tested for celiac disease immediately... if you continue to eat gluten-free the blood test and biopsy will be false negatives, if you dont care to get a positive diagnoses continue to eat gluten-free and enjoy life in general. also be aware depending on your level of damage to your intestines you may also... -

loco-ladi replied to newgirl88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thats almost word for word what I got when I called aleve to ask them before purchasing it on the advice of my doctor for another issue.... My guess is they have a book and tab thru it looking for the word "gluten" then read it off the paper, its also what they send out in the emails, lol Gotta love lawyers -
Well, Its been a long time since I have been sick with the Flu (give or take 5 years)... and I am so NOT prepared... immediate problems are the headache, temp, aches and pains... Any solid words of wisdom or should I just shoot myself and put me out of my misery! Right now the shooting myself sounds like the better alternative, I had forgotten...

ARCHIVED Why Are All The Bees Disappearing?
loco-ladi replied to moldlady's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
While I have not studied this in any great detail, I do know its becoming a huge issue (about the bees not the rest) and I do believe its from something us "intelligent" humans are doing... I agree modifyinig our food products is not a good idea, look at the hormone situation with the cows/milk/human chain, I knew that was going to be a bad idea lang before... -

ARCHIVED Hopeful New Guy Here
loco-ladi replied to aluft's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you had the blood test already if I recall correctly you now have to make a choice... #1) wait for the results then wait for the biopsy to have a confirmed diagnosis #2) wait for the results screw the biopsy and start the diet and see how it goes I couldn't talk my doctor even into the test... all he wanted to do was shovel acid reflux pills... -
In my pre-gluten-free days I would get the puffy hands very badly, so bad in fact I couldn't even move my fingers for hours after waking up.... my doctor then sugested no salt, and I can tell when I have eaten to much salt as I will get the puffy hands.... needless to say I haven't cooked with salt for many years, and unless I eat something like chips or...

ARCHIVED Confessions Of A Cook
loco-ladi replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ok, once the tears stop rolling I will give you a couple more things to laugh at! Once upon a time my mother was "teaching" me to bake we went to the store and got a "boston creme pie" mix (yes this is how my mother bakes, lol). She is reading me the recipe and says "water" instead of "milk" oh yes indeed there is a difference! Needless to say the "filling... -

ARCHIVED How Long After Going Gluten Free To Try For Baby?
loco-ladi replied to kmort's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Another thing to think of is what you are currently using for "prevention" now, some types have suggested time limits of being "off" the method before trying. I personally have been gluten-free for over 1 year, and have never used any "method" with my current hubby, have had my vita. levels checked and added what was on the lower side, so now, we wait... -
ARCHIVED Do We Really Need To Make Our House gluten-free?
loco-ladi replied to katifer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED How Do I Cook Something For 15-20 Guests?
loco-ladi replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I recently had my anniversary/reception party, and planned for 100 guests and if you plan ahead its pretty easy....... meat/cheese/veggie trays are always a great thing, I took a trip to my local deli and personally inspected each and every label and picked out the ones I could eat, also very carefully explained to the clerk about my "food allergy" and... -
Heres a general rule of thumb (so to speak) if its "porous" replace it Plastic, wood, cast iron, stoneware all should be replaced.... (dont forget the rolling pin, pastry sheet and measuring cups too) Also its recommended to replace nonstick/teflon if its scratched... I personally went to almost all stainless, the price was a bit higher to start...
