  1. It just came out but I have recently tried some of the recipes in the "Gluten free cooking for dummies" book by danna korn and like them, also adore her coffee cake recipe from "gluten free for dummies" I also have about 12 others I use on a regular basis, most of bette hagman's and a couple from annalise roberts and carol fenster
  2. Apple crisp and Peach crisp in place of the oats, takes a bit more than the recipe calls for but tasted great
  3. Well, its my 1 year anniversaary in the new house.... We has wheat in the "corner" behind the house last year, we were here for the planting.... no noticable problems... here for the growing..... no problems here for the budding..... no problems here for the maturing..... no problems here for the harvesting.... OMG had a flashback of my hayfever...
  4. I didn't have time to read everyones posts, but for the "cold" issue try getting some "horsechestnut seed extract" its great for anyone with a "deep down cold" in the hands feet etc as it strenghtens the blood vesels in those areas. Last time I purchased some "nature made" brand had some that was gluten free. Also this is good for anyone with diabetes...
  5. I get my "tinkyada" pasta by the case at (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) (free shipping that way too) along with a few other thing.... pretzels, snacks etc Pasta is so versitile you can create almost anything with it and when your almost anything gets boring it can easily transform itself into a whole different dish! ...
  6. Just after I got called "for the trip home from work" I was sitting in the complex (BNSF's bad idea of a cheap hotel for its employees while away from home) not 1 but 2 fellow employees who had been on the other side of the pool (they got daylight runs while I keep getting midnight runs) peeked over my shoulder "wondering" what I could be eating cause they...
  7. Ever since I "started" around 13-14 I had an average of 3 per year, heck I was thankful I didnt have to "deal with that monthly" like all my friends.... dr never said anything about it either so whoopie for me.... since I went gluten-free, they've gotten closer and closer..... so now, I get them every 28 days, can set your calendar by them seriously...
  8. Also at the begining it is almost easier to remember the companies that are good about marking their gluten-free products..... hormel and mission come to mind first for me.... Take emergency rations with you, cooler works great but if your only going for a day or two, I take a dinty moore (hormel brand) beef stew.... the microwave ones.... easy as pie...
  9. News from the ever continuing sage of my life stinks.... First off, my job makes me leave town for 24-36 hours until my return.... after rewashing the dishes from the previous vent I went to bed and got a couple hours nap before I was once again sent "to work" luckily it was only a 9 hour trip rather than the 10-12 I expected..... I just returned...
  10. I made a pumpkin pie the other day, and since I needed to vent and baking bread was out of the question I took some ginger cookies that lacked a bit on my taste scale and crushed em up and made a cracker crust out of them..... Let me tell ya what, I gonna have to buy more of those bad tasting cookies now to make more pies with! It was awesome!
  11. Until about a yeaqr or so ago I always enjoyed the smell of baked goods of any kind.... One summer day last year my hubby went into the local bakery for some "long Johns" for his father and forgot the checkbook, he asked if I could bring it to him....... I walked into the bakery and had a panic attack, couldn't breathe, couldn't move, was HORRIBLE!...
  12. So my In-laws have moved in, its not to bad, they are here for maybe 2 weeks every 4 months or so.... its the 2 weeks they are here that are either going to kill me..... or them! Today I arrived home from a grueling day at work (12 hours) to find some foreign food stuff drizzling nastiness all over my gluten free shelf in the fridge! What you say move...
  13. Today I made homemade pumpkin pie, instead of using a "regular" crust I took some ginger cookies that "failed to hit the taste mark" crushed em up and made it into a sort of graham cracker crust.... OMG it was awesome! Whole family wants me to make another tomorrow, I got the pumpkin, but am all outta ginger cookies that tasted bad, lol
  14. I normally react with-in 6 hours of ingesting the "poison" and am not "back to normal" for at leat a week As for symptoms, I didn't notice my symptoms until after going gluten-free.... I had most of them my entire life and to me that was "normal" after going gluten-free all I can say is WOW so this is really what "normal" feels like!
  15. Personal expirience not only yeah but OH YEAH!!! My hubby kissed me after finishing his beer, and I was ill for a week, he now will not kiss me after he has eaten ANY gluten until he has brushed his teeth.... point being IF they care they wont put you at risk intenionally.... but you have to explain it to them!
  16. If you are a "former fan" of chips-ahoy I suggest kinninikkinik (or however ya spell it) has some good tasting premade varieties, As for Mixes to bake them yourself I love the "cause your special" brand of mixes, they are easy to whip up and taste good too. I buy mine online at Open Original Shared Link? Their brownies are to die for, hubby doesn...
  17. Ok, so I have gotten into watching "food network" recently and just now good old paula deen is making "magical peanut butter cookies" and there is not one little bit of flour in them at all! Going to try them and see how they taste but if you try them first let me know! link to recipe: Open Original Shared Link and in case that doesn't work: Magical...
  18. bulls eye is on the corndog, wrapping or not also check into pasturized dairy products with kids with asthma this could complicate matters also, in addition kids with asthma should get plenty of magnesioum, salads, spinich or a suppliment also helps
  19. don't forget plastic, stoneware and wooden items too
  20. My officially diagnosed cousin has issues with tomatoes I so far do not but it was one other thing I was very cautious about at the begining and still use sparingly now, my cousin doesn't touch tomatoes.
  21. beware of dairy for starters and start out slow and simple then add from there.... fresh veggies and meat..... go thru the cupboards at home and do a "label day" get out the list of "suspect" ingredients and start tossing any that have them, yeah sometimes its hard but I ended up just taking my whole cupboard of spices and giving them to a friend and...
  22. Yup, "natural flavor" and "spices" tick me off, and I refuse to buy the product unless its already confirmed by a call from me or on a updated website... I check my "normal use" items often to keep my listing up to date. but as a general rule if its a long read on the label it stays on the shelf! I got better things to do with my time.... like play games...
  23. I wouldn't rule out "hay rides" Hay is from grass Straw normally is from wheat..... And since wheat is currently being harvested off basically my back lawn this week, I am closed inside... windows sealed.... shut A/C turned on and I am barracaded in my office.... I was hoping this wasn't going to bother me BUT I was wrong, the good news however...
  24. Steve.... I know exactly what you are going thru.... I am a railroad engineer and my job requires overnight stays with either non-exsistant or gluten filled kitchens. my "plan of attack" is as follows: I take my own meals made at home and are packed in microwaveable containers (special for my use no-one else in the house uses them), leftovers...
  25. After an accidental glutening I use the KISS method... keep it simple stupid (me being the stupid) I go back to the begining and start over with fresh veggies and meat, no spice, no flavor..... just completely and totally boring. But I make sure to complain loudly to the hubby so he suffers right along with me!
