  1. That's not really correct - that Walmart is trying to make "Great Value" brand gluten-free! They have no such intent. When I read this on this forum I contacted Walmart and was told that the ONLY thing they are doing is to require their suppliers of "Great Value" brand to mark their products gluten-free IF they are, in fact, gluten-free, which of course...
  2. On Monday I am attending an office event that includes a catered reception. They are having it catered by Red Hot and Blue. There is not ingredient list on their web site (it says "secret ingredients" and "secret recipe". So I emailed them about gluten-free offerings and here's the reply I got the below answer - a mostly acceptable answer, in my opinion...
  3. Cut and paste from the KraftFoods website which has a document about gluten-free foods they produce: Link to that document is: Open Original Shared Link "Food Starch and Modified Food Starch: When listed in the ingredient statement of Kraft products, “food starch” and “modified food starch” often refer to corn starch. Our ingredient supplie...
  4. YUP the double quotes IS the problem. Tried a test with another zipped file on my FAT32 and then on my NTFS drive. NTFS doesn't allow you to even name the file with quotes or even create a new file with quotes in it. It probably got the quotes in an email system? Or from MAC or maybe just another FAT32 drive where it was created. I don't know why you...
  5. Nini, Yes thank you! These files are great. They help a lot when you are craving a snack or hungry in a pinch. They will help not just NEWBIES, but all of us. :-)
  6. yup i was able to unzup everything else by saying "skip this file" .... And I tried my computer password, but that didn't do anything either. It's the .doc files that give problems. Not .zip. At work .zip's are in fact stripped from emails because they ARE perceived as installer files. But not here and not in AOL. I've seen this problem with...
  7. No matter what I do it wants a password for this file. It probably has to do with which UNZIP one uses. The one embedded in XP wants a password. It doesn't even let me go past that "give me a password" window. In fact, it won't let me do any of the files without a password. Can you post these files UNZIPPED? I have had this problem in the past...
  8. When I unzipped the files it asked me for a Password for the Word Doc "50 Things to Eat NOW" - so I had to skip that file. Do you have a Password for it? The properties of the file show it as being password protected. THANKS :-)
  9. Hi all. I queried Open Original Shared Link about the "Modified Food Starch" listed in the ingredients on their prepared "Port Baby Back Ribs in Sauce." Here is the very nice response I got. I am glad they use Corn and they actually appeared to understand my question. I am surprised that they are governed by USDA and not FDA because the law about the...
  10. I have DH with no damage to villi and nothing in biopsy. Seems to be all in the skin. So, supposedly my skin is the only indicator and it's greatly improving, even with the minor CC. For some reason some people DO tolerate miniscule amounts with no damage. If I challenge with wheat bread, rye bread, and other high Gluten foods, my skin goes nuts...
  11. I have done Cheerios, but again, because of the malt flavoring I can't do a lot nor everyday. Rice Crispies is same thing and same for Rice/Corn Crispix. I've only found Lucky Charms and Trix to be completely "safe"........... It's probably because of all the sugar, that they don't need to use all the malt falvoring and starches for texture and flavor...
  12. I have done research on this too, since all the non-mainstream "gluten-free" cereals tasted like chalk or had a texture capable of inducing the gag reflex and are impossible to find (except online for a boatload of money for shipping)! I eat Captain Crunch, Lucky Charms, and Trix. I have discovered that Cpt Crunch is gluten-free unless you are concerned...
  13. Do a Google search on "Confectioners Glaze" - you will find a lot of sites that have the ingredients of various confectioner's glazes. Ingredients depend on what the glaze is on: chocolate is very common (expensive chocolates and filled chocolates). I got the ingredients of "confectioners glaze" for Raisenettes and it had no gluten, but I don't know...
  14. I use Fixodent "Control" (the pink, thin one in the shiney box) and it's the only one I can use. I wondered the same thing. So I went online and looked - it's not easy to find but the link is: Open Original Shared Link F9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NiZwX3Byb2RzPTI1JnBfY2F0cz0xMjImc F9wdj0xLjI1JnBfY3Y9MS4xMjI7Mi51MCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX...
  15. To ELONWY: I pretty much knew that was the reason in Honolulu......my uncle and aunt, physician and nurse from Florida, retired to Waikiki in the 60s and became very very close to the local population and in fact, a benefactor of many. They are both deceased now, but buried in the middle of Ouahu Is. I have been told repeatedly that the other Islands...
  16. Yes, I think Waikiki Beach hotels and restaurants are known for their non-friendly ways. The food is not all that good at many places right there and very very expensive. The Hawaiin native people do not like tourists/Americans. The place is overrun with the Japanese who bought up much of the area over the last 20 years. I don't see the Hawaiin native...
  17. Oh, I wish you luck! I tried exactly all your suggestions with the Hilton Hawaiin Village at Waikaiki in March. I was part of a BIG Governement Conference that had over 350 people staying in the hotel for 7 days and 8 nights. It simply did NOT work. I tried making "nice" ahead of time. I tried making nasty when that didn't work. I told them I would...
  18. You probably won't have too much trouble carrying packaged, unopened non-plant-base food into Mexico. But you COULD have trouble with plants, vegies, meats. You can ALWAYS have trouble going into ANY foreign country with food/plants/pets, etc. You never ever know what they will do at the border. They may smile and nod or they may search your suitcase, body...
  19. Yes I did note the "Cadet" but I figured the same rules applied to them too. I knew someone who could not get into the Army reserve because of a medical problem, so they went to a different recruiter and got in! So there is hope for you. I think it will depend on what MOS (job series) you choose, or gets chosen for you. I wish you luck and hope...
  20. Ashley, How do you stay in USAF as Celiac? MRE's aren't gluten-free!! Or do they gluten-free food? 15 years in Navy says that do NOT (especially on ships). I work for Army now (civilian) and would have to eat gluten if I went to Baghdad - so I'm told. I have DH so I could probably do that if I had to go for a week or so - because I would never...
  21. Iodine will cause DH to get worse while you have initial outbreaks. Once you get DH under control with a Gluten Free diet, Iodine doesn't do that as much or at all. Buy Non-Iodized salt to help with reducing Iodine intake, but you can't eliminate it because your thyroid need SOME. There is enough iodized salt in most of the food you eat to not worry...
  22. THANKS!!!!!!!! I'm going to dig in now.
  23. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (Original Version and Caramel Version) are gluten-free Hersheys Chocolate Bars and w/almonds are gluten-free 3 Muskateers are gluten-free (check label for that one) Sour Gummy Worms (from Walmart, $1 per bag) are gluten-free York Peppermint Patties are gluten-free Hershey's Kisses are gluten-free Many plain chocolate...
  24. I use "Helluva French Onion Dip" for chips because it is gluten free. I looked at the same brand "Bacon Horseradish Dip" tonight and it said it had "Corn Gluten" in it. I do not have any corn allergy and I thought Corn was gluten-free? What is CORN GLUTEN and is it ok? Thanks!
  25. Biopsies (both endoscopy and skin for DH) are considered the "official gold standard diagnosis" - but according to my Dr. only IF you've been eating gluten consistently, and have not taken allergy meds or dapsone. In my opinion, the only GOLD STANDARD of diagnosis is the positive result (abatement of symptoms) in either or both digestive symptoms or...
