ARCHIVED Ored La Frys
Franceen replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
READ THE INGREDIENTS ON INDIVIDUAL PACKAGE. I picked up the curly seasoned fries and they have gluten. I looked at about 5 different bags and they all had gluten. (Tater Tots have gluten). Ore Ida is not necessarily gluten-free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Yes, mine did get worse before it got better. The steroid foam ("Luxiq") that my Dr. gave me is the FIRST and ONLY steroid cream that helps the itch. It is VERY expensive, but my insurance is paying for it. (It is over $150 for one can which lasts me about 10 days). That's drug company robbery for sure, but it WORKS. I don't seem to have a "flare problem...

ARCHIVED Rotisserie Chickens From Supermarkets
Franceen replied to Franceen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think COSTCO only makes one type: Plain roasted. So if that is gluten-free then they all are. But you are right about CC, if they make all those flavors. It's the "Honey Roasted" that got me this time - but from Giant Foods (Virginia) and they make about 6 flavors. Franceen -
ARCHIVED Rotisserie Chickens From Supermarkets
Franceen replied to Franceen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh gosh, you guys and gals are SO understanding and I'm so glad for this forum to be able to vent my feelings. Hubby was caught reading the labels (he thought I wasn't nearby) on some prepared mashed potatoes and put one in cart and one back on shelf. I looked at them when he wasn't nearby and he chose a gluten-free one and put one back that had "modified... -
ARCHIVED Rotisserie Chickens From Supermarkets

Thanks very much for the vote of confidence! It really is not "BS"!!! and I know that. But he has absolutely no allergies, sensitivites - he only dislikes one thing: eggs! He eats EVERYTHING ELSE! Oh Well, we should all be so lucky (I suspect he has celiac too, given his bathroom habits - and he's German too where they have a high celiac rate in the... -
My DH was absolutely AWFUL and EVERYWHERE. I had it on my belly halfway between crotch line and belly button. I have scars there. I also got it at the underpants line/crease. Awful for the reasons noted! I had it bad on shins, forearms, back (upper and lower), shoulders, upper arms near armpits and thighs. I've been gluten free since December. Took...

ARCHIVED Rotisserie Chickens From Supermarkets
Franceen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I've eaten all flavors of the rotisserie chickens from COSTCO and checked the labels - and they were ok and they WERE ok (pre-roasted whole chickens and hot in a package and ready to eat). Tonight hubby and I were rushing thru Giant Foods to get stuff for my 93 yr old father who I cook for every night. I was STARVING - it was 8PM and I hadn't eaten... -
I find that saying "gluten-free" means very little to MOST restaurant people without lengthy explanations. Therefore I just tell them I'm allergic to wheat, bread, flour, most cereals and grains and many additives because they have flour and derivative of wheat in them (e.g. non-clear sauces, gravies, dressings, etc). The most common response to the word...

ARCHIVED Fruity Pebbles
Franceen replied to Mindy35's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Always check ingredients list of the actual box you buy: I have been successful eating: Capn Crunch (new boxes are ok, no malt flavoring, but oat flour that Quaker says "can have CC" Kix (nothing in the box I have, but don't like the cereal anyway) All Kellogs have "malt flavoring" but OCCASIONALLY I will find a Rice Krispies or Frosted Flakes or Corn... -

It is a vegetable derived food additive produced from sucrose. It is denoted by E Number E315, it is widely used as an antioxidant in processed foods. Since it is vegetable-derived (is corn... -
ARCHIVED Baked Beans!
Franceen replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most flavors of Bush's Baked Beans are Gluten Free. I eat them all the time and have no problem with them. (But I have DH, and not intestinal symptoms). -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Franceen replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The BIOPSY!!! My allergist's office hired and Internal Med guy and he does Biopsies. So I had TWO biopsies done. One from a blister, and one NEAR a blister. The NEAR a blister was for "general pathology" and the "blister" was for DH. THAT'S BACKWARDS I KNOW! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the DH test was NEGATIVE - DUH. The general pathology showed a very... -
To all who are on Dapsone: Please watch out for a rather rare, but potentially bad reaction to Dapsone: I had a "hypersensitivity reaction" )known as DHS (Dapsone Hpersensitivity Syndrom) to Dapsone and could have died from it. I had the anemia, but not bad and was checking my blood regularly. I went to Hawaii and simply could not eat gluten-free since...

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed With Dh, Need Help
Franceen replied to fastcatkerry's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have lost weight eating Gluten Free - mostly because there just isn't as much (to me) tasty foods to eat. I eat fruit, yogurt (Dannon Fruit on the Bottom), Handi-Snack pudding, chocolate (Reese's PB Cups), coffee, cream, tea, honey, basic hamburger patty w/cheese and steak. The lack of bread, pasta, rolls, danish, doughnuts, cookies, cake, waffles, pancakes... -
ARCHIVED Dapsone & Dh & Dh Experience
Franceen replied to Franceen's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, unfortunately I'm aware that NSAIDS can cause DH to get worse! Here's the "rub" (pun maybe?)! The Ibuprophen makes it stop itching which makes me stop scratching. It also causes more rash. But scratching off old scabs and scratching all day and night is probably just as bad for my skin (infection, scarring, lichenization etc) as the flares from the... -
ARCHIVED Dapsone & Dh & Dh Experience
Franceen replied to Franceen's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My story continues beyond what I wrote in my original post. Started Dapsone 100 Mg/day for the rash in mid-December. I had started gradually to eliminate Gluten in October and was mostly gluten-free by Dec but rash still bad. Took 3 weeks of Dapsone to get a complete lack of new blisters and end to "everywhere all the time" ITCH. (Yes scabs and scars... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Franceen replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Parden my naivete, but what is wrong with Altoids. I am surrounded by a lot of them these days - especially the Wintergreen. I'm not too young for them! (54) but I'm not in love with them - I eat one or two every once in a while, normally on a plane. I will have to go look at ingredients! Are they full of Gluten? Or Cassein? Or Soy. I am only gluten... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Franceen replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yup have full version of Adobe Acrobat (V.7 too). I don't even get that far to where the doc. is. I am not getting the error 404 (forbidden). Maybe the site was down when I tried. I'll try again in a little while. At work now, on a .mil IP. -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Franceen replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I will try it using my work computer from a .edu IP also. And I also have a .mil which I will try it from. I work for Naval Posgraduate School at an Army base and have all 3 IP's .navy.mil, .nps.edu and .army.mil. I can do it from here, but too late. Will try tomorrow. Thanks for the info. anyway. I am in similar boat as you getting diagnosed for DH... -

The link does not work. Tried the base page and that's fine but can't go any further than that. Even search yields the "white screen of Internet death"! -
ARCHIVED Manischewitz Macaroons
Franceen replied to StrongerToday's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My supermarket has both Manischevitz and Streits brands. All the Streits are Gluten Free while only about 2 or so of the Manischevitz were gluten-free. Streits have very very few ingredients: "Sulfite-Free Coconut, Invert Sugar and Egg Whites" for the "Coconut" (Plain) flavor. I love mararoons too and am gland they make them gluten-free. Wish there... -
ARCHIVED Tgi Friday's Potato Skins In Freezer Section gluten-free?
Franceen replied to LLatham's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
About a month ago I got some - decided they were gluten free by reading label and comparing ingredients to one of the "safe foods" lists I had. Best to check label each time you buy frozen/prepared food because the ingredients change frequently. -
Triscuit crackers Whole grain bread (read label to ensure no dairy) with nothing on it (maybe dairy-free peanut butter) Grape Nuts or shredded wheat cereal (without MILK on it) PASTA with sauce, no cheese Maybe you are lactose intolerant vice dairy-allergic. Understnad that Lactose intolerance does not return positive for any of the allergens (eosinophils...
