  1. If I'm awake in the middle of the night and can't sleep because I'm hungry, I just dive into the peanut butter jar with a spoon. Well, you asked.
  2. I understand you were able to overcome your lactose intolerance, but I seriously doubt that I can heal a milk sensitivity with aloe.
  3. Tamari is one type of traditional Japanese soy sauce that is wheat-free. Most brands that make tamari also make shoyu (regular Japanese-style), and often several kinds. Read the labels carefully.
  4. I think you are relying to heavily on soy, but that's just my opinion. However, I think it would be reasonable to eliminate soy from your diet for a week or so to find out if it's causing you issues. If it is, then you really will need to decide how you will eat a balanced diet without it in the future.
  5. Don't feel sorry for me, I was feeling fine again the next day. But yeah, seriously too bad there's not something beerlike readily available.
  6. It doesn't sound to me like she's feeling jealous at all. It sounds like she thinks gluten and lactose intolerance/sensitivity is a load of nonsense, and we're only doing it to annoy her and raise the general rudeness level in the world. Maybe it reads differently in context.
  7. I'm sensitive to milk now, too. It has started causing swelling in my ankles and feet. I'm just going to let it go.
  8. My sister's pain in the lower right side of her abdomen turned out to be Crohn's disease.
  9. I've been gluten-free for a couple of years, and if anything, my lactose intolerance has gotten worse.
  10. I've found if I eat sugar in the morning, I crash, if I eat starch, I am hungry all day, but if I eat eggs - 2 eggs any way - I am fine until lunch.
  11. I found that going gluten-free greatly improved my gum health. Previously they were painfully inflamed at the 6 month cleaning, and now they never are.
  12. It always seems like, regardless of how well they have put together a varied menu with acceptable dinner options there's nothing for dessert that doesn't contain gluten. Dang.

  14. I'm thinking it would be easier to make your own beer. That way you could add extra hops to make up for the lack of malt flavor.
  15. Eat more fruit, vegetables, moderate quantities of meat, poultry and seafood. Eat less breads, pastries, cookies, and other starches.
  16. Rolling Rock has always tasted like Heinekin diluted with 3 parts water.
  17. I've found that if the edema is from a sensitivity, like milk, it takes almost a week to disappear on its own. I suspect that antihistamines would chase it. But if it's caused by salt and inactivity (as on an airplane), raw pineapple or watermelon seems to flush it.
  18. Just a follow-up, I had a bottle of it last night and felt glutened. Nobody should try this.
  19. Gluten doesn't make me violently ill, so I'm going to try it. I'll let you know how it works out.
  20. Malt is made by sprouting grains until the shoot appears. At this point much of the carbohydrate in the grain has turned to sugar, which is intended to support the growth of the new plant. The sprouted grain is immediately dried and roasted, then the sugar is extracted at a low enough temperature not to cook the remaining starch. The sweet liquid is boiled...
  21. That's pretty funny. American beers use very little malt, as it is a relatively expensive ingredient. Rolling Rock must have found a way to eliminate it entirely.
  22. I think a lot of times you will get better response sending a snail mail than an email, which is easier for them to blow off or respond to in a condescending way. It is foolish of them to treat their customers this way, thinking that because they never heard of us that we're nobodies and have no connections. A while back I bought a Baby George Foreman...
  23. Things happen on internet forums, unfortunately. I was once present on a professional cooking forum that went nuclear over the correct way to dice an onion. Go figure.
  24. You'll have a lot of meat juices to drain from the pan, use them.
  25. Spectrum shortening is natural unhydrogenated palm oil. I bake with virgin coconut oil, too.
