  1. I think Richard was saying that technically it is okay.....the problem is with contamination, which is so likely that it's not worth taking that risk. On its own and guaranteed free of contamination, wheatgrass would be all right.....I guess it's sort of similar to oats....they think that oats are okay (but it's debatable), however most brands of oats are contaminated, making it easier just to stay away from them--not quite the same cause there are arguments going on about this, but the same general idea.

  2. After vomiting, it's impossible to get the taste out of your mouth by brushing -- you still taste it in your throat. Usually I would drink a softdrink like Sunkist to wash the taste away, but I'm trying to avoid the sugar/carbonation combination, so I tried an altoid (gluten-free)........it happened to be the peppermint kind and it actually helped a little with the stomach......so, peppermint does help -- even when it's not in a tea, but in a small pill-sized altoid.

  3. Thanks again, everyone :) .....I am even more happy that I'm going to get this done Monday, now. Like Mariann said, "Monday just can't come soon enough". In the past I got abdominal pains and vomiting...once every 3-7 days......now, for the past seven days, I have had abdominal pains -- not much vomiting -- a little last night, but I'm not used to seven days in a row feeling sick....since it's getting worse, I'm really glad that I'll get this checked out. This is a big year for me--there's a mandatory shakespeare play thing, which requires a lot of time and is a really big and stressful process..........even more, I have to apply for highschool (tedious forms to fill out, many essays to write, SSATs, other exams that different schools want, and most importantly, interviews and tours that I can't be sick for :( .......etc.).........so I really want to get this straightened out....at least if I find out what's wrong with me, I can maybe get some sort of medication to ease the symptoms or something..........but thank you all sincerely for your thoughts and well-wishes for not only the endoscopy, but answers and elimination of symptoms :D . School starts tomorrow for me and will drastically slow down my postings, but I will make sure I tell you what happens with the scope and results...

  4. I am thinking about the biopsy because I want to be sure there is nothing else going on down there.. especially since she hasn't improved completely on the gluten-free diet.

Good idea....I am having my biopsy on the 13th just to check what's going on down there....I've already has a formal medical diagnosis through both bloodwork and biopsy, but because of my persistent symptoms after nearing seven months on the diet, they want to check everything out......

  5. I thought there might be a gluten problem with the minis, but maybe not.......like Mariann said, you should call to ask if you'd like to have those as well.

Duncan Hines has icing that happens to be gluten-free........their "cream cheese" kind doesn't taste like cream cheese as the name suggests, but is the most amazing icing that I have had and a few people I know loved it when they tried it, too.........just a suggestion, though as with all other products, call.....don't just take my word on their gluten-free status, as this was from awhile ago.

BTW, Mariann, I will try that cake.

  6. It's good that she's happy and developing normally. You're not a bad parent at all. First off, for you to find out about celiac disease and ask the doctor to run bloodwork for it was great of you to find. Second, you tried the gluten-free diet instead of saying "oh, it'll just be a pain to try". Third, if your child had bloodwork after going on the gluten-free diet, you should get everyone on gluten again so that if they are celiac, it will show up in the bloodwork.

I would recommend the biopsy. It's not that big a deal; I had one in February (I had just turned 13, which isn't the same as 2, but I'm still a kid)......I got put out completely, so, obviously, I didn't recall a thing.......I woke up, was fine, no sore throat (the only "pain" or should I say "annoyance" one might experience after the biopsy)...I was slightly sleepy, but I was fine. People who have been drugged so they're out of it, but still conscious enough to help the doctor (for example, roll on their side) say that they can't remember anything -- so the only thing your daughter would remember would be being apprehensive before and coming out of her.....sort of daze afterwards.....I would recommend it, cause if you're going to change her diet for the rest of her life, you should be certain that that's a step you need to take so years later you're not doubting whether she really is celiac or not.

  7. I don't have and never had any.......but celiacs often develop aversions to food not because of weight, but because of what food has done to them and how celiac disease and gluten-containing food have given them both physiological and psychological.....symptoms.....depression, abdominal pain, diarrhea......I think that could turn anyone away from food.......I've never been a food person, but I just eat because it's something that has to be done to stay healthy.....
