  1. Thanks for the reassuarance. It really really helps to know what to expect, and who knows scopes better then the people here? He's having it done at Children's in Pittsburgh. I'm not sure when yet. They are supposed to call me. My parents are not happy that we are having this done. They think it is wrong of me to put him through it, but it's what the...
  2. Thanks Tracy. Your post really does help. I know I will cry when they ask me to leave the room because I just did when I read your post about it! You're right though, as a parent we could use a sedative for the experience too. I am just trying to not let him see it freaks me out. It's funny, I had a endoscopy done a few months ago and my mom went with...
  3. I think the toy idea is great, thanks. I just scares me a little that you had problems with the scopes. I hope that wasn't too traumatic for you. I trust my sons pediactric gastroenterologist, but the thing is she is more of an asisstant that he sees. I never even met the doctor that will be performing the procedure. Get what I am saying? Complete strangers...
  4. My son just turned two and the pedicatric gastroenterologist is having a endoscopy scheduled for him since he has been on reflux medicine since birth. They wat to check for allergic inflamation (eos) because he ia allergic to milk, and because I have EE. Is eosinphilic ensophagitis hereditary? They probably will not check for celiacs since he doesn't have...
  5. I ate some chick peas (garbanzo beans) for the first time in years yesterday and I had a major asthma attack and I almost passed out. I know it was an allergic reaction. Could I be allergic to other beans because of my soy allergy?
  6. I'm really allergic to soy, but if I drank it I would choose the Silk brand because they are organic and do a lot to help heal the Earth. ....that sounded a lot like a commercial, didn't it? Sorry.
  7. It could be a reaction to the sunflower oil, which is not usually allergenic because it is refined, but I doubt it's that highly refined. Some people have problems with salt. Try the low salt variety. I eat them and don't have a problem, but the salty ones make me swell and feel icky.
  8. I was on lexapro for post-partum depression for about half a year. I was also on 5 mg. It made me not feel depressed. It made me not feel anything. A asteroid could have been hurling towards the Earth and I wouldn't have cared on lexapro. That was the problem. I wanted to feel something, even if it wasn't always good feelings. I take the bad with the good...

    ARCHIVED Eczema

My food allergies make me break out in eczema and my son too. Maybe you should get food allergy testing. A lot of people here with celiac also have food allergies.
  10. I would talk to the doctor about your results, and stay clear of those things you tested positive for on the allergy tests. Are you only allergy symptoms gastrointestinal, or do you get rashes or breathing difficulties, stuff like that? Other people here might be able to go over the blood test for gluten intolerance. My doctor just gave me a reoprtof operation...
  11. My sons been on rice milk for a year now. He's 2. He's done real well on it. The Westsoy brand does not have gluten in it that I know of. The Rice Dream brand does, so be careful with that.
  12. An allergy is an IGE antibody reaction to food. You can die immediatly from a food allergy. It causes much more than discomfort. Gluten intolerance is when your body can not digest gluten from wheat, barely, oats and rye. Generally a gluten intolerance will slowly kill you. The wheat allergy can immediatly kill you. Symptoms of food allergy range from...
  13. Maybe at Subway you could have a salad with no croutons, or dressing, and maybe with grilled chicken. I don't know if it is all gluten free. You think it would be. I guess it's something you would have to check. I don't dine out.
  14. I talked to a lady from Pillsbury on the phone and she said that all their frostings are gluten free. They do have corn in them though. Maybe that is what made me sick. I just know that it tastes really good, but makes me feel like barfing all day long. It sucks too because I have all this carrot cake in my fridge and I can't eat it at all. My son can only...
  15. I got sick from Pillsbury frosting. I was vomiting, and pooping bloody mucus.
  16. Don't worry about people thinking you are weird for keeping yourself safe. I don't eat in restaurants either. I learned the hard way a few times that you can not trust strangers to know enough about this disease to keep us safe. There is also a support group in my area, but I'm kind of iffy about going too. I don't do well in big crowds.
  17. Thanks! I'm in North Western Pennsylvania, about 50 miles south of Lake Erie.
  18. I'm O negative as well.
  19. We don't have any of those stores here in hick town Pennsylvania, but maybe if I take a look around I can find some. Is it usually found in with the baking stuff, or with the international foods?
  20. No I never tried that. Where could I buy coconut oil?
  21. You're so right! My dad loves to say, "I don't know where you got those allergies from" all the while he is sucking on an asthma inhaler, coughing and wheezing, itching all over. lol
  22. Carla, that's exactly what I am talking about. My family would not just walk up to a person they don't know and make fun of them, but when they feel comfortable enough around family they do and they see it as fun, and "bonding" in a weird way. I just think they get carried away and don't realize when they are actually stepping over the line from fun to rude...
  23. My son is allergic to corn, so that is how I knew about it. The doctor at the time thought I as nuts when I told him about it. but my husbands whole family is very corn sensitive so it came to mind. You might want to check ingredients of other things too, but I bet with time she will start to feel better. Give her time to heal. I hope they really get to the...
  24. I could never not talk to my family. I love them, and I want to be with them, which is why I am going to take the extra steps necessary to help them understand, even if it annoys them. Today, about the cake, I just told them if it doesn't bother us why should it bother them? And they couldn't answer and shut up about it. Then we moved on to more important...
  25. I'm glad I'm not the only one having to deal with this stuff! I know my husband has put up with people not taking his allergy to animals serious his whole life. Even after having to spend two weeks in the hospital on a respirator when he was 4 his family still got more and more animals, and they go hunting, touch deer hides, and that laugh when his eyes swell...
