shai76 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED I Didn't Know I Was Supposed To Refrigerate Maple Syrup
shai76 replied to elaine33's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh wow, I never refridgerate maple syrup. Woops! -
It's dishydrotic eczema. I've had it for years and it is caused by my food allergies. It really flares up bad when I am exposed to soy or dairy. Maybe gluten intolerance can cause it too, or maybe you have food allergies on top of celiacs.

ARCHIVED Finger Food For Baby?
shai76 replied to hannahsue01's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son liked cut up peaches and pears. You can buy the Enjoy Life cookies and break them into smaller pieces. -
What do you use instead of condensed milk? The game hen idea is good. I will definitly do that. How do you make stuffing? I know I can get pie crust mix from the health food store, but I've never found an alternative for the condensed milk in the pumpkin pie.

I HATE Thanksgiving. I'm allergic to turkey, and wheat, and milk (so no pumpkin pie). Everyone else sits around stuffing their faces and then complaining about how good it feels afterwards. I hate everyone on Thanksgiving. I would rather stay home, but my family would be so mad at me for it.

ARCHIVED We Did The Biopsy....thank Goodness It Is Over
shai76 replied to LauraW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, you had a terrible experience, and I would blame that hospital too. I took my son to Children's in Pittsburgh and they were nothing like that. They should not have put an iv in her without the sedative, and they definitly shouldn't have brought you back to the operating room! That's just nuts! Of course you are going to get emotional, and that will make... -
ARCHIVED *********help, I Need A Hive Expert**********
shai76 replied to azmom3's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I would definitly get his blood tested for as many allergies as you can, food and blood. I used to be just allergic to milk, than I started getting hives and asthma every day. I went and got tested and it turned out i was now allergic to milk and eggs. A couple years later I started getting hives, eczema and asthma again. After having my blood tested I was... -
ARCHIVED Allergic To Wheat & Gluten But Not Celiac?
shai76 replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was never completely sure if I am celiac because I am very allergic to wheat, oats, and other grains. If I eat them I get asthma, hives, eczema, and gastrointestinal problems (food allergies also cause stomach pain and diarrhea). My blood test for celiac was positive, but they told me that can happen when you are allergic to wheat as well. Of course the... -
ARCHIVED Parents Begging Not To Do Biopsy On Dd
shai76 replied to LauraW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was worried about having the scope done on my son too because he freaks out during even simle medical exams, but it wasn't bad at all. He went in and played with the toys and other kids. Then the doctor came out and let him ride in a little car back to the operation room where they gave him a sedative before putting in the iv. He was done in ten minutes... -
ARCHIVED Gastritis Part Of The Fun Celiac Package...
shai76 replied to JenKuz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son (2) and I both have gastritis and we both have food allergies. I don't know if the two are related though. He had a biopsy and so did I, and now he takes prilosec 2 times a day, and I take nexium. -
ARCHIVED Are Smarties gluten-free?
shai76 replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
US Smarties are free of all common allergens...that is what makes them so awesome! BUt they still have corn in them. They used to be corn free. -
I used to be a vegan before developing all these allergies. Back then I was just allergic to eggs and milk. I loived soy too. Soy cheese, soy milk, the toffuti sour cream....now I am VERY allergic to it. I'm considered a class 3, which means it can kill me. I got used to eating meat again. Now I just eat what I can. I felt kind of bad about it, but now...

I thought it might be something else too, but I was RAST tested for a bunch of stuff and it came out high positives. The doctor had me do an elimination diet based on the results and whenever I included those things back in my diet I got eczema, hives, asthma, and stomach problems. So once I eliminated them for good I got better. But now I am developing symptoms...

Thanks. I'm just wondering why a lot of us just keep developing new allergies all the time.

ARCHIVED Benadryl
shai76 replied to shai76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! I bought some today. I bought the Benadryl name brand gel caps that are dye free. I'm still afraid of trying it. Those tummy aches were terrible! -
I've been on an elimination diet for my allergies, since it seems I've developed more judging by my chronic hives, eczema and asthma. Anyway, I went down to just eating rice and some meats. Any time I eat, even just rice, I wheeze and break out in hives. My eczema is worse than ever. I've been eating rice for breakfast lunch and dinner, and I am always sick...

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help Me With More Sites?
shai76 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I keep developing terrible allergies. I get tested at the doctors office, they tell me I have new food allergies and have to completely avoid stuff. Then about a half a year later I start getting symptoms again, go back to the allergist to find out I developed even more allergies. Pretty soon I will be on elemental formula instead... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Thinks It Might Be Eosinophillic Esophagitis, Not Celiac
shai76 replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would find a new specialist for him. It's common knowledge that there are 8 major allergens, and they should know this. The also don't sound like they are taking your sons problems seriously. -
ARCHIVED Benadryl
shai76 replied to shai76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, that would be scary! I'm anaphylectic to soy (and other beans and legumes) and milk. My other allergies are bad, but not as bad as my bean and milk allergy! -
ARCHIVED Benadryl
shai76 replied to shai76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm also allergic to corn, but I've never had that bad of a reaction to it. Usually it just causes me some wheezing, and eczema...not this gastrointestinal distress. It's so extremely painful. It feels like someone is twisting my insides, ringing them out like a wet rag. It's just awful. I see my allergist Monday to have my sublingual drops refilled... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Thinks It Might Be Eosinophillic Esophagitis, Not Celiac
shai76 replied to azmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are actually 8 major food allergens: soy, milk, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, eggs, wheat. Secondly, the RAST can test for IGE antibodies for anything that you could possibly be allergic to, not just these 8. They can test from rag weed to coffee. And they are fairly accurate, more so than the skin prick test. True the only sure test is a... -
ARCHIVED Benadryl
shai76 replied to shai76's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay, it's actually the generic CVS brand benadryl. I've never had a problem until I started this specific brand. Regular Benadryl never caused me a problem, unless I developed an allergy to it...which happens to me sometimes. What other antihistamines are there that are as effective for people with severe allergies? I have to take it when I break out in... -
Every time I take it I end up with the most awful stomach cramps and diarrhea. The, of course, I feel so tired and sick. I get tunnel vision and feel like I'm going to pass out. Before I though the D and cramps were from the food allergy problems that I took the Benadryl for in the first place. But I'm not sure because even when I take it for slight environmental...

Just to make it clear, other allergies can be just as dangerous as nuts and fish. I'm deathly allergic to milk, beans and legumes, and my husband is deathly allergic to animal dander. I hate to go off topic, but I try to correct this whenever I see it because this kind of confusion has caused me, and others with anaphylectic allergies, major problems.
