  1. Wow, I never knew coconut milk could replace condensed milk. I love pumpkin pie so much! You're my hero.
  2. As long as the one year old is getting their daily requirements of fat and protein from solids enhanced rice milk is okay to give them. My son saw a nutritionist at children's hospital when he was switching from hypoallergenic formula to rice milk, and she went over his diet with me. I kept a record of what he ate every day for a week, how many calories...
  3. Lactose intolerance can cause constipation, especially with cheesy things. With an allergy you would have other symptoms as well, like eczema, hives, or toher rashes. Possibly vomiting or breathing difficulties. An allergy is considered life threatening, and an intolerance is usually not.
  4. Tanya, they have no idea what it is in the Nocate that she is unable to tolerate? I am not certain, but I think it contains corn syrup solids, doesn't it? We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
  5. I don't know what to tell you. I don't trust others to prepare food for me either. Maybe they will let you talk to the dietician who runs the cafeteria or something. Cross contamination can be a problem too. Megan has tried every formula. If you've already tried formula exclusively I don't know what to tell you. I hope her choking episodes begin to subside...
  6. Wow, I can't believe a GI would suggest chocolate. That really makes reflux type symptoms worse. I can see strawberry though. With EE/EG that is something to be concerned about. Plus there are allergens in the syrups like corn. I wouldn't go there unless absolutely necessary, and if the GI doctor okays it, such as yours. Your child might be different then...
  7. My son and I both take a toddlers chewable vitamin. It's the only vitamin I found that I am not allergic to. Not sure of the name of it right now. I crush it up and mix it with applesauce for him at breakfast. For me I mix it with my smoothie are breakfast.
  8. Tanya, which formulas have you tried Megan on? I know the formula switching around game since I did it with my son. I've read about how some children may outgrow EE by the age of 5 or 6. I'll try to find that information again for you if she turns out to have it. I'm hoping my son doesn't either. It's genetic, and he has also had reflux since birth, gagging...
  9. A lot of those foods your eating can increase reflux symptoms. Squash and sweet potatoes are great, but garlic and onions will definitly cause more harm to her sensitive stomach. The only way I can see an elimination diet working with her is to find a good, prescription formula and keep her on it until the symptoms go away, then slowly introduce foods. For...
  10. Eosinophilic esophagitis/gastritis is intimidating at first, but a lot of young children outgrow it, once the culprits are found, as long as you completeyl eliminate the allergens. It was frustrating for me when I started to develope more and more allergies as an adult. Did they ever consider the possiblity of steroids if this is her problem? Helps a lot...
  11. 1. Milk replacements? Westsoy Rice milk 2. Butter replacements? We use olive oil and canola oil in cooking/baking. 3. Yogurt replacements? Don't do yogurt. 4. Cheese replacements? I never ever found a good substitute for cheese. We just don't do it. 5. Ice Cream replacements? I have a icecream maker. We use Rice Milk or Koolaid, or homemade...
  12. If you try to quit and fail then you have a problem and you should seek help for quitting. There are lots of great support groups, and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Congratulations on realizing you might have a problem. Most people who have addictions don't make it that far.
  13. I'm sorry about your friend. Some people are just very ignorant and not willing to learn. There's nothing you can do but move on. Maybe if there is a celiac support group in your area you can meet new friends there. Just a thought. Hope you start feeling better.
  14. One benefit from diet pop is it really helped with my morning sickness when I was pregnant. I was sick my whole pregnancy. It wasn't until I decided to try diet dr. pepper that my morning sickness improved. Then I would feel sick all day until I sipped some of it. I don't drink it now though. Any pop makes my reflux act up. We rarely eat sugar,a nd I don...
  15. Blue Diamond Almond Breeze milks are dairy free. I would probably try them out if I wasn't allergic to tree nuts too. :/ There is no good substitute for cheese. Sorry. If your eczema is too bad you might want to try some tar ointment to speed up the process. It really helps.
  16. It would be near impossible for me to do. I'm allergic to so many different things it would be hard to find things that taste good to rotate. It would be expensive too. Eating leftovers and stuff saves a lot ofmoney. Maybe if I had a giant freezer to store everything in it might work. I really don't believe it works anyway to keep away food allergies. There...
  17. I like raw, organic sugar over sweeteners, but I'm not obsessive about it. I am tired of the "splenda is a wonderful godsend and it's all natural" crowd. I would rather eat a little bit of the real thing then that fake stuff. But to each their own.

    ARCHIVED Tai Chi - Qigong

My husband used to be a Issunryu karate instructer, so he has taught me a little. Then I got a Tai Chi dvd (yang style) and tried it out. I liked it a lot! I was living in the middle of the desert at the time with no instructers around. but my husband has practiced it at the dojo so he was a lot of help. A lot of people do not realize the martial applications...
  19. It's great your husband is so supportive and cares so much. If you can eat steak, don't forget those at the store so he can cook dinner for you some night. One thing I make that people seem to like is fruit and rice salad. I mix cold, cooked brown rice with fruit (grapes, cherries, raisins, pineapple...whatever you like), fruit juice, real maple syrup...
  20. I really like the Namsta stuff. They make good cakes and cookies and pancakes. Not sure if you do eggs or not, but energy egg replacer works great in them. I wish I could help you more. I'm sort of in the same boat. I have been eating potatos all the time because the doctor thinks I might be allergic to rice now too. But I know lots of different ways to...
  21. I'm very allergic to nickel too. I have a titanium wedding band and I love it! It causes me no problems at all. I also wear a stainless steel allergy necklace, and it has not caused any reactions either.
  22. Thank you so much Joanna! You make me feel a lot better. His scope is at the Wexford division because we live about 100 miles North of Pittsburgh. It's about 1/2 hours closer for us to go there. I will definitly let you all know how everything goes. It will be in about a week and a half, so I still have awhile to talk with him about it.
  23. Thanks Joanna. My son has been seeing Danielle Sebbins at the Wexford division of Pittsburgh Children's since he was 4 months old. She says the doctor doing the scope is Dr. Lowe. I never met him before. Have you had any experience with him? I'm a little nervous about it because I haven't ever even talked to the doctor, and will not until the day of the...
  24. Thanks. I feel better now. I found I can eat kidney beans. My son gets real bloated and gassy from soy and other legumes. It'smore of an intolerance for him, but I keep him completely away from it now.
  25. Thanks for the support. He is having the scope done in two weeks, so I still have awhile to fret about it. I would love it if I could just get it over with right now. I will definitly bring him a lot to drink. He loves watered down grape koolaid and vanilla rice milk. I'll make him some jello too.
