  1. Joan's bagels/english muffins - NOTHING else compares! Yes they are expensive with shipping, but so worth it! Ttrader Joe's frozen gluten-free pancakes Envirokidz animal crackers (more like cookies) Bell and Evans chicken nuggets/tenders - better than the glutenous ones! Enfvirokidz peanut butter cereal bars Rice Works chips Pamela's pancake and baking...
  2. How do you know you are soy intollerant? What are your symptoms? I'm just curious b/c I have these "episodes" where I start vomitting and D at the same time for several hours (happened this weekend) and I know I wasn't glutened, so am wonderintg if it could be soy (I ate a lot of soy and almond based products that night).
  3. are any of these places near O'Hare? I will be staying at the Hyatt O'Hare and won't have a car. I am going for a conference and am afraid I won't be able to eat (since the hotel is providing breakfast/lunch, which will of course be all glutenous foods!).
  4. grayton, you sound just like me. I am 34 now, but my night sweats started about 10 years ago, and 4 years ago I stopped having a period, got bronchitis for the first time 2 years ago, and then was finally dx with celiac 1 1/2 years ago. The night sweats have gone away for me, but I still sweat excessively during the day (it might be from the new med I'm...
  5. Thanks for bumping this up. I do have hashimotos - is that different than Hypo Pituitary? I will do some research on that. I have been gluten-free for almost 1 1/2 years now, and my BP has gone up slightly (still in the 98/68 range), but I was pregnant for the past 9 months, so that could be one reason why it was "high" (according to my standards! LOL...
  6. First, don't stress! I just had my second baby - first pregnancy I didn't know I had celiac so was eating gluten (and lots of it) all throughout. My daughter was born 3 1/2 weeks early and had jaundice, but other than that she was and is very healthy. A year after that pregnancy is when I was finally dx with celiac (had the symptoms since age 12 but...
  7. does anyone know if the new Hershey's Kisses "candy corn" is gluten free? I would assume so since all the other Kisses are, but wasn't sure. I miss candy corn (can't find Farleys brand anywhere here - all they carry is that bad Brachs!).
  8. thanks - I didn't think I had fasted for mine but it was over a year ago so I wasn't sure.
  9. I am having my child tested (blood test) and was wondering if she needs to fast. Of course, the dr. doesn't know and the lab techs are clueless.
  10. Hi Maggie and welcome. It is NOT all in your head and don't let anyone make you start thinking that. I know how you feel - I went through 11 doctors before I finally found one who could figure out what was wrong with me (I had never heard of celiac but luckily he was a smart guy and that's the first thing he tested me for). If I were you, I would find...
  11. Tara, it will get easier. Just keep reading. Also, don't be ashamed if you break down crying in the grocery store - I did this for a few months! Wallmart's brand of scalloped/augratin potatoes (in the box) are gluten free - says so on the box. I was thrilled to find those (the Betty Crocker and other brands are NOT gluten-free). Also, Fruity Pebbles...
  12. I had low milk supply with my first child, but it was pre diagnosis (although looking back I definitley had celiac then) so I wasn't gluten-free. I also had many other issues that could have contributed to the low supply, but regardless I BFed her for 5 1/2 months, until my recurrent sinus infections (and many rounds of antibiotics) totally dried me up....
  13. I use the Garnier hairspray - it is gluten-free.
  14. I never had a problem with headaches until I went gluten-free, then after a few days gluten-free I started having headaches nonstop for about a month or more. I think it was from lack of carbs (also had no energy - would get extreme cramps when I ran/worked out, etc. - dr. thought it was lack of carbs so I started eating rice and potatoes and it went away...
  15. 1) C first few days then D for a few days 2) headache 3) brain fog/bumping into things 4) sometimes dizzyness and passing out 5)gas (especially at night), but not the smelly kind, just noisy 6) depression/mood swings for about a week all of this takes about 2 weeks to go away for me. I also have night sweats all the time (not just when...
  16. Karen B, I put parchment paper on my pizza pan and then put the dough on that and roll it out. I just then bake it on the parchment paper (on the pan) so it doesn't stick and the dough doesn't go through the holes - works great.
  17. My oven has a "warm" setting, so I turn it on warm while I make the bread, then when the bread is in the pan I turn the oven off and put the bread inside it to rise - always works perfect and rises in about 40 min.
  18. I would recommend bringing all your own food. I just had a baby, and called the hospital nutritionist prior to going to speak with them about gluten free - she said to make sure I told EVERYONE that came into my room that I needed gluten-free food, but even then, she said I should probably bring my own b/c they might not do it right. Well, sure enough,...
  19. Does anyone know if anything at Moe's or Fresh Mexicali is gluten-free? I can't find any info on either, but I remember a while ago Moe's said that all their meat was marinated in gluten (soy sauce, I think).

    ARCHIVED Thirst

actually, there is a disease that makes you always thirsty - it's called diabetes insipidus ("water" diabetes) and it's what they thought I had (it's usually caused by a brain tumor or head trauma, so I had an MRI of my brain and all kinds of other tests to no avail). I was always drinking a ton of water (but I thought it was normal) and going to the bathroom...
  21. Everything that lpelleger said - just b/c the mayo, etc. might be gluten-free doesn't mean it's safe unless it's new. CC is a big issue at potlucks, etc. I always make sure I get my food first before there is a chance of cc, and I usually only eat things like fresh fruit/veggies and bring my own food (also, burgers/hotdogs on the grill might be ok as long...
  22. Instead of the cream cheese mixture to hold the fruit on, yoiu could try melted apricot jam/preserves, or any other flavor jam that you like. Just melt in the micro for a short time and spread on a sugar cookie crust (all of my recipes for crust contain eggs, so not sure what to do about that).
  23. I thought Moes wasn't gluten free (had heard they use soy sauce to marinade all their meats/veggies). Have you confirmed they are gluten-free? I would love to be able to have another fast food option!
  24. I had a healthy baby boy on June 22 - 6 lbs 14 oz and doing well. Breastfeeding is going ok - he seems to have an aversion to broccoli and dairy (I'm dairy light, so the first time I had dairy several days after his birth he spit up everything - I tested it again and same thing). It's funny b/c my first baby spit up all the time for the first year of her...
  25. The only thing I put in the freezer is brown rice flour (b/c I hear you should). The rest (white rice flour/tapioca starch/potato starch, and mixes) i just store in my pantry. MIxes like Pamela's that come in their own resealable bag, I just leave in there - haven't had a problem with them going bad and I've kept them for months. Rice flour etc. once it...
