ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)

Tee, I am not sure about your last comment, but I feel you are having a dig at me, I feel that is totally inappropriate and uncalled for. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Benefit Of Going gluten-free
Kaycee replied to Nancym's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The list is endless. I was starting to get a little bit impatient with my work colleagues and family (and I have always thought I was an easy going person) before I was diagnosed. And a few things were beginning to get on top of me. Now I don't seem to get annoyed with colleagues and we have a happeir work enviroment. Still have to work on the homelife... -
Lisa, I couldn't resist this, and I know it is completely off topic, but here is a site about my city, even though it is a small city. Open Original Shared Link We are heading towards summer, so we will be able to take advantage of all those beaches, in some places we are described as the city of 100 beaches, I think you would like that, all those...

Thanks Lisa. No-one has mentioned wine have they. Well I had been drinking, since being diagnosed earlier this year, the vodka, the gin, I even tried Irish Cream. But, I don't think any of them agreed with me. Nobody in NZ seems to put on the labels what is in their alcohol, so it can be hard to find what is okay to drink. I did drink wine, but I went...

ARCHIVED Before Going gluten-free Was Anyone Else Always Hungry?
Kaycee replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That was me. Always hungry. I can remember coming home from school when a teenager and having at least 4 sandwiches because I was starvng, and I still managed to eat tea with dessert no problems. I do blame coeliac form my hunger. I have always been big, even as a child. I have dieted, have got results, but then always manage to put the weight back... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Nothing is like it used to be. Nothing is made the same way as before. It looks the same, but does it taste the same? Yet people still eat it. It is convenience that sells. I know I was guilty once. I did not mind the amount of additives and preservatives I was eating, could be becasue I did not know what was in the food. It was food, it was easy to... -
These are the questions I was asking a couple of months back. 1. I now do not use the dishwasher at work to clean the utensils I am eating with. The other day, the bottom of the dishwasher had tons of those instant noodles in it! Whew, luckily, I don't have to worry about that. 2. I still drink the water from the tap, but will not touch the filtered...

Jules, at times I feel the same way after being glutened. Believe me it feels worse than if I had been drinking a bottle of wine. It sort of hangs around like a hangover and then dissappears during the day. What I notice with myself, is that is is really hard to get out of bed, and I feel so groggy. I think like you for me, it would be the gluten. Not...

ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hello Saz, Glad you could find us. Just a note about the oven roast pototoes, I don't think we get these here in NZ, but on a similar vein, quite a few frozen chip varities have flour in them. I find that totally appalling, as I can not order chips from the fish and chip shop, and if I want to make oven fries, there are only a couple of brands I can have... -
Today I was missing pikelets. Different days, I miss different things. All day I was dreaming of pikelets, and thinking, I was good at cooking them before, and enjoyed doing that. So I kept thinking about pikelets all day while trying to work, and thought, I have nothing to loose in trying to make them. So when I got home, I used my old recipe and just...

ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
At the beginning of the week Steve Irwin died, and now , yesterday I heard that Peter Brock has died. It is so mind boggling and shocking. Two famous Australians in one week, it would make you worried to be a famous Asustralian. Lets hope bad luck does not run in threes. Cathy -
Thanks for that gfp I have now changed to gmail. My email address where I getting notification wasn't hotmail but my internet provider. Occassionally it hiccups. Hotmail was an alternative address I had listed for people to contact me if needed. And then when I tried to get back onto this forum yesterday, I had no luck, and I really thought I was completely...

I have just received an email from supposedly Scott Adams stating the below. I tried returning a reply, but my email was undelivered. The return address is info@glutenfreeforum.com "If you forum email continues to bounce we will have to delete your account. Take care, Scott" What I want to know is if this is a genuine email, and if it is, what...

Fortunately I am the opposite. Before diagnosis, not too long ago, I was always ravenously hungry. But now thankfully, as I can do without weight gain, I am not as hungry. The worst thing for me would've been to have put on weight again, and then I would've not been able to stop. Weight is a problem for me to say the least. Cathy

ARCHIVED What Am I Doing Wrong?
Kaycee replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love the idea of the tuna cans. It sounds quite unique and I'm thinking, I still have most of a loaf in the freezer, when can I try this tuna can business? I also add an egg to my bread mixture, as it tends to hold it all together better. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
New Zealand and Australia manufacturers are meant to to show whether food contains gluten, and all the other common intolerances or allergens. But I don't think it always does, as I have been caught out. So I still read the labels. If I am in doubt I will not touch it. Flavourings and colourings tend to be my biggest concerns. Lovely weather has gone and... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)

Mango, There seems to be debate about oats here too in kiwiland. I will not risk it, they just scare me. I have discovered rice porridge, and it is yummy. Peg, working in a library is awesome. I worked my way up there, one minute I was cleaning the floors and now I am in the library, and loving it. Watch out principal, I might be after his job! I... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Westie, thanks for that, I am well aware of the mfd site. When I joined the coeliac society here in nz, they put me onto it. It was my bible to start with, but now, I only go there occassionally, as the labelling of food is quite good here. How does it compare to England? Another site I used to go all the time was Open Original Shared Link, it has all... -
ARCHIVED Since Going Gluten Free What Is Better In Your Life?
Kaycee replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mayflower, I have found it quite easy to give up the gluten as far as withdrawals go, I don't seem to crave bread and things. I am so glad about that. But we all are each different. And I hope you overcome your withdrawal problems to wheat soon. About the brain fog, and my lessened brain function,I thouht it was because of approaching menopause. I... -
Realising that coeliac was the reason I was always hungry, I am the opposite now. Feeling the weight of the world on my shoulder, but now it has lightened. Feeling that my brain power was slipping away, thinking it was an age thing, and not diet related. Just an unhappy person, wondering what there was to live for. But I think meeting my future...

This has nothing much to do with Oprah, but I am sure having coeilac has made me more stressed and anxious. I am getting neurotic. Cathy

You comment struck a chord, I know it is way off the original topic, but here goes. I didn't want to be different, and I wanted to fit into the mold. What scared me most before would've been people looking at me if I did anything different. I don't like stares. But then I didn't want to be sick either, so I took the challenge, did the test and now...

That sounds so like my mothers answer to me. But did she tell her doctor about her food allergies, excess wind (did I say that), diahroea, particularly after eating out, forever needing an afternoon nap. etc etc. No she did not tell him, so he feels she has no symptoms, and no reason to test. I just don't know how to get through to her. I talk about my...

Would there be any room for a kiwi in there? Our foods are similar, but you guys probably have more variety. Cathy

Tee, I will answer your question, yes you do have to have been eating gluten to get a positive result. I think after 3 or four months, you would get a negative result. I guess you just have to base it on the fact that you feel better without gluten, and leave it at that. But it is nice to have a diagnosis, and then those that think you are just on a fad...
