  1. Tom No I have no information about the beer. Personally I don't like beer, I prefer the wine. You could try the beer, and then let us know what you think of it. Cathy
  2. Aussie Peg this is "anyone from my neck of the woods", but across the ditch, so to speak. Yes there are a few of us here, but I find the site so interesting, esp about the physical side of coeliac, but there is just not much food information that I can relate to and rely on. I know our m&m's here have glucose from wheat in them, well they did last time...
  3. There must be no-one in New Zealand apart from me who reads this site. One last call. hello New Zealanders. Cathy
  4. Read enough of the article to think it is poison, and is has bought back memories of the gist of the article. And that could be a reason why subconsiously I have not always liked soy. Thankfully I am avoiding soy, primarily because it does not agree with me. Do I miss it, no, and it is easy to avoid, as it just does not happen to be in fresh food. Cathy
  5. It is quite funny, well not funny, but I do remember a little about this thing about the birds in whangarei. I will have to read the article first, but I replied first. The funny bit is I live in Whangarei. Isn't it a small world. My home town is bought up on an American site. I will now read the article and see if i need to reply Cheers Cathy
  6. This is probably an old subject, but is decaf coffee okay for coeliacs. I know they treat it chemically, but not sure how, and would appreciate a yes or no as to whether it is safe. What about flavoured coffees, such as irish creme, I am not talking about a premix coffe, which nine times out of ten will have gluten in it, but more of a coffe grind that...
  7. I don't trust any company who will not reply to my emails. Most companies are good and wonderful with their replies, even if they state their food has gluten in it, I appreciate them giving me the advice. But there have been a couple of companies who have not even replied. They are small companies, but that is no excuse. So I treat their products as...
  8. Alas mine are diffeerent to yours in that I can get them on my legs, arms and upper body as well as my face. Once I had about 5 running up the right side of my right leg, in a line, but usually it is just the odd one here and there. But I have no doubt it is probably related to gluten, or another food issue somewhere. As long as I behave and curb my wanting...
  9. That would be so frustrating. I couldn't think of anything worse, a new way of eating for life, and then to put weight on. Cathy
  10. Elonwy I get those bumps too. Do yours last for quite a while. I still have the remnamts of one under my arm from very early last month, it is just reddish They just show up, are annoying for a couple of days, and then slowly dissappear. Haven't had a new outbreak for a long time, mind you I have been extra good at finding hidden gluten. I no longer...
  11. Mythreesuns No, you are not talking to yourself. I agree with what you say word for word, and I thought it was only me that felt the hunger before, and don't feel the hunger now. I still am kinda overweight, but it is winter here, and I will try to make the most of not being hungry over summer and try to loose some weight. Just think I managed to...
  12. I can relate to the sores on your scalp that ooze and crust over. Mine were not itchy, but tender, but I knew they were there and I tended to touch them probably a bit more than I should. I can be reading, watching tv or even on the computer and my hands would be constantly rubbing my scalp. I guess I have always had a sensitive scalp, and the cheaper...
  13. Lauren Thanks for that. I do agree with you eating disorders are diseases, but sometimes I do not use the right words, or put things as succintly as I should when I am a bit het up. I can sympathise with them, as I said. Being a freak of nature is probably the wrong words to describe us, so I will slap my wrist for that. But any disease is in a way a...
  14. Anorexia and bulimina up to a point are self inflicted, sorry if I offend any one, and this disease is just a freak of nature. Don't get me wrong, I do feel sorry for the anorexics and bulimina, and a lot of money probably goes into their diseases, as opposed to coeliac. Has this answer got anything to do with the fact that there is no medication needed...
  15. Personally I think Oprah should do a show on coeliac, not just for us, but to inform the general public of how dangerous this disease is if left undiagnosed, and untreated. She herself is a bit of a foody, and is right into health. So why won't she do it? Cathy
  16. I know over summer, when it gets hot, and I eat, sometimes I end up sweating, especially with the evening meal. It is not summer here yet, so I won't be able to tell whether being gluten free I will sweat more or less. I know after loosing a bit of weight, the heat does not get to me as much, so I think my sweating was just weight related and eating too...
  17. I am sure the brain heals. Beofre my diagnosis I was really struggling to do a puzzle called sudoku, do you have them there? It is a puzzle with numbers in and you have to figure out the missing numbers. Even on the easy ones, I got lost and confused and made big mistakes. I was telling myself, I am just getting past trying to retain the ability to sort...
  18. I am coming right, slowly. Thanks for your concern. You are right soy is everywhere. Only the day before yesterday, I realized I was still ingesting soy in the margarine I was using, an olive oil based product! I will just have to eat what I ate while on holiday, as that did suit me, but it was rather plain, but easy to manage. In New Zealand if...
  19. I having a few moments to do whatever, thought I would have a look at some old posts on this forum. I came accross this, and the referral to an article, which might be a little bit old, but I think it was great reading, and probably worth bringing back up again. Cathy
  20. Gfp, I tend to agree with you. Before being gluten free I had terrible problems with the amount of food I needed to eat. I was always hungry. It is very hard to fight hunger. It nags at you until you eat something. I did control it, and managed to loose a couple of stone in weight, but was always hungry, that is why I was quite discouraged when...
  21. I tended to overeat before my diagnosis. I just can't seem to overeat now. Either I don't feel like it, or else there is just not enough of anything I would care to overindulge with. After eight months, I am glad to say I have got to the stage where there will never be any more overeating in my life. I can never imagine being 90 kilos / 14 stone again...
  22. I don't really want to make the connection with the potatoes, like I did not want to with the dairy. I have since made connections with that and soy and peanuts. But you probably have a point, and whether I want to or not, I might just have to face up to it. Cathy
  23. Nancy, that sounds encouraging. So I guess I will have to stick with it and try soy, or dairy at a later date. Thanks Cathy
  24. Probably not meant to be funny, but it made me laugh, thanks! Sometimes I have to wipe like 100x...Now that's annoying. And I've been gluten-free for three years. I'm glad you laughed. We all need a laugh. I didn't mean to be too serious, I tried to lighten it up, but it is serious. I know what you mean about the 100x. Not always...
  25. I am not sure, but do they become normal again? Or am I striving for the perfect poop, which could be quite unattainable for me in the long run? I would like to move on from my obsession with this topic. If there is no chance for improvement, I might as well settle where I am and become quite content and then obssess on something else, possibly my...
