  1. Ditto ditto. My first thought on going gluten free 5 months ago, was I have control over my disease, but that feeling of control quickly left, and I was feeling quite helpless for a while there, but now I am again feeling more in control of my diet. Also I have learned how to cook real food again. No more prepared, prepackaged food for me. I...

    Another Man!

3rd July, 2006 Another day, not as cold as yesterday. Forecast is for snow tomorrow, so that could be exciting. Me and dad went visiting a few of his friends. In the afternoon, we went to visit a friend of his who has coeliac, and has been living with it for 10 years. I was a bit apprehensive about going to see him to start with, as he is quite a bit...
  3. A colleague knows I am coeliac, and we were planning on going out to a chinese restuarant, and I was ummning and arring, and she came out with, "Just bring your own oil and get them to use it, you will be fine." And then at a chinese restuarant, after telling them that I can't eat gluten, they want to know if I can has potato starch. Double duh!!
  4. 2 July 2006 It’s very early this morning, and it is very dark. Dad says about minus 2 degrees. Nice and snuggly inside, but rather crisp outside. When it is light I will be able to see the snow on this hills around. There is one hill here, more like a foothill, with a concrete shaped horse on the side at the top, that can be seen for miles. It should h...
  5. 1 July, 2006 Got up early and me and Jim off away to Auckland to catch the plane. It was a cold morning, a bit of ice around. Traffic was not too bad as far as Auckland was concerned. But once at the airport, the wait was terrible. Took three quarters of an hour to go through getting bags checked. Just as well we were early, as we thought we would have...

    Another Allegy?

30 June 2006 Tomorrow early, we drive for 3 hours down to Auckland, and I catch a plane and go to Christchurch, which will take an hour and then catch a bus and travel for another 3 hours to get to Waimate. It will be a long day! But worth it in the end to see my mum and dad. Gosh I miss them. I think I might have been stressing out today, trying...
  7. I had these too when I was really little. I would wake up screaming in my bed and not knowing what about. I was besides myself. I would have really creepy nightmares too, but they would not have me waking up screaming. I had to have a nightlight. It was sheer terror for me. My brother used to say one day you will faint and not wake up again. I would...
  8. Damn, you might be right there. I have been trying not to think about another intolerance/allergy, but damn, it could be the soy! Not to mention all other additives! Guess what I am going to do today, yes you're right, go chocolate free, just to avoid soy. No wonder I was crook over easter! Too many bunny visits. Enjoy. Where in NZ will I get that...
  9. Before on occassions I would gag a bit while brushing my teeth, but now I can brush my teeth no problem. I feel the same about everthing you say. Still got to work on the dark circles, I only notice them when I've been glutened. And yes there a lot out there who could be prime suspects for coeliac, buth then there are those who claim they have, and do...

    Tempted? Nah.

Tell me, for you who did not have any symptoms so to speak, what happens with you now if you accidently get glutened? Do you suffer? I would find it hard going without something and not have any visible reason for doing it. For me it is easy, because I do suffer. Suffering now, and I can't sleep. I am one of those nearly 50 year olds who thought I was perfectly...
  11. My first thought is the vegemite. Here in NZ it has an extract from barley! Cathy
  12. No thoughts on dairy. But like you, I am not interested in glutenny things, never even craved them at the start, but milk would be hard to give up, but I still feel I am missing out when everybody else has cakes and sandwiches, maybe it is because they can have them and I can't. A lot of choice has been taken away. But I would never eat them again! Cathy
  13. Thanks for your replies. It makes sense to try things one at a time, but it is harder than said, as you probably know. It still takes tme to find out what it was that upset things. But now five months down the track, I eat more natural, than processed, so that makes it a bit easier. I do keep it simple for most of the time. Alchohol does not seem to...
  14. I am quite new at this, and try to be very strict with myself, but apparently not strict enough, as I still do suffer from dairrhea. Did I spell that right? I think the longest stretch I have gone without is about four days. I meant diahrrea, nothing else. I am beginning to wonder whether additives in cans and food could have something to do with it...
  15. Another freezing day, ice first thing, and frozen fingers. We are not used to this type of weather. Three frosts this year already, compared to none for us last year. I will have to harden up, as I will be in the deep dark cold south in a couple of days, where they have been having blizzard like conditions. Was a long day at work. 8.30am till 6pm tonight...
  16. This feels in some way like a religion. There are those of us who know all about coeliac, and then there are the others who do not know much or anything. I feel at times I am trying to preach a new religion, when all I want people to do is understand where I am at, and how gluten impacts on my life. I will be staying with my parents for a couple of weeks...

    ARCHIVED Holidays

I am going awqy this weekend, to stay with my elderly parents, in their seventies, and have not seen them since my diagnosis. Has anybody got any good hints about going away? Starting to pack my bag, and it is nearly half full off food. There goes that squirrel instinct again! I'm only allowed 20kg, so I should be careful. I'm a bit more concerned about...
  18. I am totally ignorant about a rotation diet. But I will give it serious thought. I do not have any other food issues, only coeliac, but I am forever worried my diet will get boring, and that I might just do something unforgiveable. So far I have discovered food I would never have thought of like quinoa and cornmeal. And they are nice. I try to keep my...
  19. I agree with you, for me , coeliac built up slowly, and then something happened, and your body probably can't deal with the extra stress, and wham, you realise that something is wrong besides the stomach upset because it takes forever to come back normal, as in energy etc. Cathy
  20. One more week of work, then two weeks off for holidays. Six more sleeps then winging my way down to Christchurch, then further south to see my dad, and then my mum when she comes back from warmer climes in Darwin. She would’ve spent 3 weeks up there with two of my brothers and a sister. Funny how most of my brothers and sisters live in Australia, leaving j...
  21. I think my gluten intolerance came on gradually. When I was younger, like in my teenage years, I am sure I had symptoms, not too bad, but looking back they were there. You know crampy stomach, brittle nails, low iron levels at time, depressed etc etc. Over the last few years, before diagnosis, I have probably had food poisoning or something similar a couple...
  22. I must be blonde, but I can't understand this. It sounds interesting and quite intelligent, but I can't understand it. Please explain this in laymans terms. Ta
  23. I am a newbie too, well it is getting on 6 months gluten free. At first it went with a hiss and a roar with improvements to my diahrea, and a few other improvements that I did not even consider would happen. Well to cup a long story short, I sort of relapsed again too. Maybe at first, the worst of the gluten had been eliminated and the body thought, wow...
  24. Also, when I used to eat, back in the olden days, sandwiches for lunch, all I would want to do after that is go to sleep, so it ws rather hard getting a good afternoon's work out of me. But now, after having lunch at work, I am back into my office without even a yawn. Cathy
  25. My nose does not run everytime I have a meal. Well it used to when I ate gluten, but now that I am gluten free it does not drip after a meal. Confuses me that one does. How could gluten have something to do with the nose, it is just about like an allergy thing. Cathy
