  1. Mouth sores, usually appear for me the next day after eating bananas. I can usually tolerate a banana, and had done for years, eat one a day, but for some reason if I am a pig and eat two of them in a day, I get a sore in my mouth. I will have no more than one a day at most, but more often than not I don't eat them now. Hence no mouth sores for a while...
  2. Yes I sleep so much better now that I am gluten free. Before I used to be pretty restless, either no be able to sleep, or wake up on and off all night. I would blame the coffee, or the coke, or anything but the gluten, as I had no idea at the time it was the gluten. Coffee did not help, and it can still keep me awake, but I limit the coffee, and never drink...

    ARCHIVED Introduction

I don't know if I am the exception to the rule or not. I have been gluten free for five months. I have not suffered undue tiredness, even before my diagnosis. I have noticed a difference in my appetite. Before I used to be so ravenously hungry, and I ate bread, and that probably kept the cycle of hunger going, and I was overweight. I would do an early...
  4. Neats, I too am from New Zealand. I know you posted long ago, but long ago I did not know what was wrong with me, actually believed there was nothing really wrong with me. It is that ostrich thing, burying my head in the sand. Well I hope to hear from you. It is good on this forum, I have learned from it, but it has an American flavour, and it would seem...
  5. Congratulations for loosing some weight. I too am like you and could do with losing some weight. My biggest fear with going gluten free 5 months ago, was that since I was overweight to start with, and with the extra stress of being coeliac, I might put on weight, and that would've been so terrible for me, as I was scared it would go up and up, non stop...
  6. Nisla, I am a New Zealander, (have only been diagnosed since February) so not too sure how much of the kit would be useful, but would like to have it sent to me. The gluten free forum has been a life saver and wonderful to follow, and I am getting to feel I know quite a few of you all. Your picture is a bit scary, but hey you obviously have a heart of...
  7. I guess I am lucky, and so far have only had coeliac to deal with, and not a host of other diseases and allergies that other people have. I am interested to know, so I can put this disease into perspective, what is worse or harder to handle, coeliac or your other allergies or diseases and why. I find coeliac is hard to handle, as no matter how vigilant...
  8. I have wondered about that too. Coeliac is a serious disease, and thankfully we are not resucitated with any form of gluten. Well I don't think so. But it would be handy at times to have a medic alert bracelet for all of those people who can not identify with the seriousness of the disease. Maybe it could be handy for when eating out, so that restuarant...
  9. Kimz, sometimes when I am glutened I get a cough that lasts for about an hour or so, that is about an hour after eating the offending food. I don't know why I would get a cough, and once at the same time I had a blocked up nose at the same time. Then after about two hours I end up with stomach pains and feeling bloated. The daihrea starts in the next day...

    ARCHIVED High Platelet

Years ago, nearly 20 years ago I had a high platelet count, antibodies, and the doctor thought it was a rumbling appendix. So he did not go further. It was not, but about 5 months later, he realized that I had a cyst besides my ovary about the size of a grapefruit. How he could miss that I don't know. My question is, would the high levels be related...
  11. We are all different, and since being gluten free, I have not craved bread or gluteny things. I have never really been a bread person, but I did eat it, as that is what everybody ate. What I missed the most was being able to just grab anything off the shelf without thinking. But I hve got over that, and it is not a problem now. Thought I would crave...
  12. I had cellulitis about four years ago, on my leg below the knee. It started off as a pimply looking thing. It became quite infected very quickly and was so painful, swollen and angry looking. Dr dianosed it immediately, wanting to know whether I had been bitten by a spider, specifically a white tailed spider, and gave me antibiotics telling me to go back...
  13. Yes Ursula, it is so much more than cutting out the gluten. It is cutting out all those additives as well. That struck me in the first few weeks, that I felt better without the additives and preservatives. But it was hard to change the diet after all those years of eating what I want whenever I want. Needless to say, I am a bit overweight, but this diet...
  14. I was diagnosed by a blood test, on Valentines day this year. I am still waiting for a biopsy, but the Dr said it could take a while to get that done. I am not eating gluten, Doctors request, so that might not show up anything in the biopsy, he is quite prepared for that, but he would like to know there is no other damage done. I have had a couple more...
  15. I have been diagnosed with celiac, but I was more expecting to be diagnosed as gluten intolerant. The dr gave me a blank look when I asked if there was a difference. So it has got me to thinking are they both one and the same thing? Can somebody please tell me if this is the case. Thank you. Cathy
  16. Lunch is the hardest meal of the day. As I work and there is no cafe anywhere near, I have to take my lunch. I usually, have soup or salad, fruit, rice crackers or corn crackers, but I am getting a bit bored with it. Are there any ideas out there? Cathy
  17. I went onto this gluten free diet with a bit of tredipation. I have a different problem, and was in need of loosing a bit of weight, and had managed to loose two stone prior to being diagnosed with celiac, that was a battle as I was always hungry. My worry with being gluten free was maybe I would get a bit down, and let the weight creep back up and I thought...
  18. We went out last night, had a lovely meal of chicken, pork on the spit, and vegetables without sauces. I did ask the cooks whether there was flour in the roast spuds etc, and was given the reply no. But within an hour I was burping and belching and feeling uncomfortable, this went on for a couple of hours. Does this mean I have been glutened? Or can...
  19. I have celiac, but I was just wondering whether I could have DH as well, or are both diseases exclusive, and you can only have one without the other? I have a few spots, always have had spots on and off, but they are not a problem as compared to celiac. I was just wondering whether a person can have both diseases? Cathy
  20. This sounds familiar to me to. But I wouldn't be able to say whether it is DH. I've got little red lumps right down one leg, more or less in a line, but a bit zigzaggy. They are not itchy, but a bit tender if squeezed. Why squeeze? Cause they look a bit pimply, but without a head. This is the first time I have seen them, and they've hung around for a...
  21. You didn't post your keys did you? The more I read, the more I realise that blaming lapses in thinking or sanity, can be blamed on celiac. Cathy
  22. Thanks for that, that sounds encouraging. I actually got my period this morning, and didn't realise it was around the corner, even though they are getting later and later. I feel so much more balanced, emotionally. well mostly, unless I get glutened, then it is quite emotional. I remember a few years back, I used to what I thought get hot flashes...
  23. Rachel, thanks for your reply, and it is interesting that it can contain msg. That is one thing I totally try to avoid. Since it has laxative effects, why, or how can a manufacturer of a gluten free product, aimed at a celiac, feel justified in putting it in their product? Very interesting. So from now I will avoid it, from yesterday, actually, and...
  24. Loved all your replies, I don't feel so alone. I don't mean to tell tales, but I have a cute one on my mums behalf. As we live on different islands, I get the usual birthday, christmas cards etc. I don't know what it is, but she will address my mail as Mrs Katherine Whoever, but on the card itself, she will call me Catherine! I can not understand...
