Yes Nancy life is good. I still try to take something with me that I can eat if I go away for a day or so, whether it is crackers or fruit, it doesn't matter. But I at least will give the food on offer a go or a look over, and if that does not suit, I can still have my crackers! And if the offerings are okay, I can leave my crackers, knowing they will...

It has been a difficult couple of days. First my husband had to go to the High Court to sort out the will his father had left in trust for him and his stepmother. It is a big long story, and it has gone on for quite long enough, about four years. So on Friday, it was all sorted out and both parties seem relatively happy. But it has cost quite a bit in...

ARCHIVED What Does A Glutening Feel Like ?
Kaycee replied to georgie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Georgie, by GI do you mean gluten intolerant? Well if you are gluten intolerant, it would mean the same diet restrictions as a coeliac, in that you cannot eat gluten. It does not matter whether you have healed or not, you will still not be able to eat any food containing gluten. To do so could and will make you sick. So being gluten intolerant means being... -
ARCHIVED I Just Have A Question Please Read!
Kaycee replied to aaron's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Aaron, welcome to the forum. And it does matter! In a nutshell, if you keep eating gluten you are leaving yourself wide open to impaired health in later years. I know at 16 you feel you are invincible, but in twenty years time you will wish you took notice of your diagnosis. I only wish I knew twenty years ago. If you were diagnosed 2 years... -
What age were you diagnosed with celiac's/gluten intolerance? I was diagnosed at 48 What were your most common symptoms? Diahrea, and cramps. Was beginning to suffer from reflux. What are your symptoms when you eat gluten now? Within two hours my stomach will start to ache a bit. I will get irritable and cranky. All I would want to do would be...

Skipper, at least he replied back to you! A few of places I have emailed regarding products have not even bothered to get back to me. I just feel so anti towards them, I boycott their products. Maybe you have made them think about the information you requested and they may look into the matter now. He did say he wished he could help more, but that might...

ARCHIVED Corection....i Cheated And Something Really Did Happen!
Kaycee replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Susan, I am sorry you got a reaction. I guess that was your last lot of donuts and banana bread. At times I think we like to push that envelope as far as we can. While I am feeling well, I find it hard to remember just how bad I felt, so just a little dabble at those times does not sound to be too bad. I myself tested it just be sure that I did have... -
Along with not eating enough, dehydration can cause headaches too, so make sure you are getting enough liquids. Good luck with your pregnancy and take it easy, and don't forget pamper yourself, you deserve it. Catherine.

ARCHIVED I've Gotten Blood And Biopsy Results Back...
Kaycee replied to sallylew's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nisla, everything you say is so true. Sally, for you it would make sense to be diagnosed with coeliac, but it is not always possible, like everybody is saying your body's response to the diet would be the best indicator in your case. If you feel better on the diet, stick with it. I don't know if you would call yourself coeliac in this instance or... -
Adelle, I am sorry for your loss. Yes it is hard to loose a pet, they are members of the family. They are a great comfort when we are feeling down. I will be devastated when my geriatric cat decides to go. But poor you, it was quite unexpected for your Maeve to go. My thoughts are with you and little Boudika. Hugs. Catherine

ARCHIVED Pamela's (amazing) Wheat Free Bread Mix
Kaycee replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nantzie, I would so love the chance to fall in love with Pamela's bread. I get so jealous when I read about all the different breads etc etc that are available over there, it makes me drool. I am not sure if NZ is just behind, or whether I am just not too good at hunting out the different gluten free things. But it would worry me as the more I find, the... -
ARCHIVED So Many Newbies Have Joined Us
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mouse, I am a lot like you in that I don't ask as many questions as I did. But unlike you, the reason I don't answer many questions is that I don't feel I have the confidence or experience to answer other peoples questions, even though I feel I know the answer. Catherine -
Edye, I make my own bread with premixes, and I think Xanthan or guar gum is already in it. Gum holds bread together like gluten does. I think a teaspooon a loaf is probably all that is needed. Also when I make bread, I add an egg to the recipe without altering the other ingredients, as protein holds it together as well. Or you could try a cup of grated...

I think we are missing someone very special in this thread, and that is ourselves. We have each and every one of us taken the initiative to make ourselves better and I think the top gold medal should go to ourselves, for insistance and perserverance in beginning a new life that has probably been fraught with more pitfalls than each of us imagined. But...

ARCHIVED Symptoms Even When Sticking To Gluten-free Diet
Kaycee replied to jebus's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Jebus, I have just seen your post and have not read the replies, but feel like answering with my experiences. I am loathe to advise, as I would hate to put you wrong. you are about the same age as me, and I was diagnosed about 8 months ago. It has been hard, but I have not got the other problems you have. I had D about everyday pre diagnosis, and... -
You have all been wonderful, especailly when I first found out I had coeliac, and felt there was nobody else in my world who understood, but here is a whole board of individuals who understand. You all have such big personalities, that I couldn't even imagine to match. I am just me, quiet little old me. You are all different, like in any family, or group...

ARCHIVED So Many Newbies Have Joined Us
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just a thought. I have been here on this forum for about 6 months, and have been diagnosed for about 8 months. What I want to know, is when do you go from being a newby to a veteran? I really should've been a veteran the moment I joined, since I am creeping up to fifty. But being a newby sounds fine, it sort of re-juvenates me. But I guess I should be... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ruth, would you by some chance be a connosoir of chocolate like me? And could you help me here. I love the stuff. So far, Cadbury's seems okay for me, I only eat the Flakes (note no soy in these), dairy milk and Dream. I tried Whittakers white chocolate the other day, and I felt quite awful later, and I know thier peanut slabs don't agree, but I thought... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Saz, I can't help you there with jelly babies, as we don't have Coles here in NZ. But from what I gather New Zealand and Australian food laws are about the same, and if a product contains wheat or gluten, soy, peanuts, dairy and eggs (these might not be the total list, but I know gluten is in it), it has to be lablelled as such. But in having said that... -
ARCHIVED How Long After Being Gluten Free Did Your Sleep Improve
Kaycee replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Deb, sorry you are not sleeping well. That was me too prior to being gluten free. I think it took me about a month or two to see any improvement in my sleeping. To start with I was quite on edge when I first found out I had coeliac, so sleep was more of a problem at the start. But now I sleep like a log. Unless of course I have eaten something that... -

ARCHIVED Can You Get Accurate Blood Tests 3 Weeks Off Of Gluten?
Kaycee replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My tests after 4 weeks gluten free showed up as positive. And two tests since, have still shown up positive, even though I have been as gluten free as I possibly can be. Everyone is different. Catherine -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Saz, I use Trident Rice stick noodles and they are fine. They are just rice flour and water. Catherine -
I can appreciate how you feel, and it maddens me too. But how do you make a person do what they should, when they obviously don't want to? Nobody can stand behind them 24/7 ensuring they do not eat gluten.Somewhere along the line they have to take responsibility for their own health, and unfortunately along the way it is costing the health system a heap...
