ARCHIVED Help!why Am I Feeling Bad Again?
Kaycee replied to SanteeBay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Melanie, I felt the same as you. The beginning of the diet for me showed wonderful improvements, and I thought great, so easy, but somewhere along the line, a couple of months in, I was sliding back. I got a bit depressed with that, as I was sure I had been going down the right track with eating. For me it was a mixutre of glutenings (I was not too... -
In the very early stages of giving up gluten I read an article in our local Coeliac Link magazine that compared it to the seven signs of grieving. We are grieving the loss of something that once was. Then I read the book that Michael J Fox wrote about Parkinsons Disease, as I needed something positive to read, he mentioned the process he went through...

ARCHIVED Eating A Cracker On Purpose
Kaycee replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll go along with the denial theory, or the I just want to see what happens, but then it could be addiction and obssession. After being symptom free for a while, I did something stupid and ate gluten. I don't know why, but the thought of this food had been nagging at me for weeks, and I did not think the craving would stop until I ate it, I never stopped... -
ARCHIVED Struggling For A Diagnosis
Kaycee replied to aussiegirl17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum Aussiegirl, I think there will be a lot of people on this forum who would be able to relate to the length of time it took for you to get a diagnosis. There are many reasons for the length of time of dianosis, I think doctors just don't know enough about the disease, and some think it is quite rare dishorder. But it not a rare disorder... -
JayJay It is hard to diet, and probably even harder to find a book or a diet that you can follow to the letter, since you are gluten free. I'm noticing there are alot of dieting programmes on the tele, and a few of them advocate what looks pretty much a gluten free diet, emphasising fresh veges, meat, fish etc and fruit with not many grains at all...

ARCHIVED What Products Have You Pitched -after Gluten Free?
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nancy that sounds a bit like chicken, not hair! I find with shampoos, even if they don't have gluten in them I can still end up with spots on my scalp, so I have gone for one that has no scent and it really is nice. It take a bit of getting used to the no smell. Glad you have something you like now. Mtdawber, about MSG, I avoid it because I have... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's a lovely water fall, thanks for cooling me down, never been there, but it did look NZish. I'll have to go down to our falls in Whangarei and take a photo, they are beautiful too. Cape Reigna gave me a very spiritual feeing, that is where the Maori believe their spirits jump off. Like you, I have only been as far south as Dunedin, a very Scottish... -
ARCHIVED "this Product Was Processed In A Facility That Processes Wheat"
Kaycee replied to AliceW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was the same as you Cassidy, at first I did not worry too much about what I was eating, if it looked gluten free, that was good. But I got caught a few too many times, and now I risk proccessed food only occassionally. Yes we do have flour in our house, I work in a floured environment, namely noodles that get washed in the dishwasher and stick to my... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh, how sweet. What part of NZ were you based in? I must admit I did not appreciate what we had up here in Northland until after I had been away in the South Island for 10 years, and then to come back up north with all the beaches etc, it is so wonderful. The South Island is wonderful too, beautiful scenery, but it is so cold, it even SNOWS! McDonalds... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't eat at McDonalds, but in NZ there is a PDF file you can download, and I am sure there would be one for Australia on their website. It looks like in NZ I can have their Garden Mixed salad without croutons, the only dressing I can use would be ETA French and ETA Avocado and Garlic. But I tried one of those salads less the dressing and I got sick.... -
ARCHIVED What Products Have You Pitched -after Gluten Free?
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes and my friends have benefitted greatly from my throw outs. But not any more, I am getting shrewder. Cathy -
ARCHIVED What Products Have You Pitched -after Gluten Free?
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Viola, Isn't that odd, and silly to say the least, to put wheat germ in lemon tea! But that I think answers one nagging question I had about a drink of green tea flavoured with lime! The ingredients said green tea and lime flavour, so I didn't even get the chance to make an informed choice. The fact that my mother had bought the tea and did not like... -
ARCHIVED Desert Essence Organics Shampoo And Conditioner
Kaycee replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A big yippee for you. Tell me are you back in the States or still in Australia? If it is an Australian product I might be able to get it here in NZ. Just a thought. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Heat Intolerance Anyone?
Kaycee replied to outOfThisWorld's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't have this problem. I did when I was a bit more overweight. Would that be a possibility? I know Australia is hotter than here in New Zealand so it could be the heat and when I plan my holidays over there I try not to do it inthe summer. As for summer we have not got it yet here in Northland. It is warmish, but that is about all. I notice... -
ARCHIVED Sadness From My Sister
Kaycee replied to Adelle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Adelle you can complain as much as you want and there is nothing wrong with wanting children. Children are wonderful and enrich our lives and let us grow even more. As my children have nearly all grown up I'm in the process of looking forward to grandchildren, but that probably won't be for a few years Go for your dream, no matter what your sister... -
ARCHIVED Exciting Side-effects Of Non-gluten Diet?
Kaycee replied to betterbelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes my frequency of urinating went down too, and I don't need to get up in the middle of the night either. Good symptom not to have on cold nights. Another thing I realised yesterday that during holidays I now no longer need a nanny nap in the afternoon. Another exciting side effect for me is that I am becoming a health nut, like I always wanted... -
ARCHIVED What Products Have You Pitched -after Gluten Free?
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The thing that surprised me with having gluten in it was the shampoo and conditioner I was using. That went pretty quickly, and now I use the same brand of shampo, but desinged for sensitive people. Another surprise was the frozen french fries I was cooking had wheat in them. Another thing that annoys me is not being able to eat licorice allsorts (I... -
ARCHIVED "this Product Was Processed In A Facility That Processes Wheat"
Kaycee replied to AliceW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
To start with I avoided these products, as I was scared I might get glutened, and I think I have on occassions. But now after a year gluten-free I am venturing out a bit more and will try these products on occassions. If anything the last year has taught me how to say no to food, and to be my body's best friend and I have also learnt about moderation... -
ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take You Yo Be Diagnosed With Celiac?
Kaycee replied to jamrock's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jamrock It took a long time for me to realise I had coeliac. Like Ursa, I have probalby had it most of my life. Things slowly got worse until about two years ago when things got worse quicker, but I still put off going to the doctor as I was acared. But with a little research and a bit self diagnosing I figured it out and went to the doctor and it was... -
ARCHIVED Doc Told Me Today I Do Not Have Celiacs
Kaycee replied to Kimberlee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Kimberley, I guess it would've been nice for you to have been told that you had coeliac and then you could work on that, but now you are left wondering what really is wrong. But then again nobody really wants to have coeliac. !. Not all blood tests will pick up coelaic. There can be false negatives, but not as many false positives, so it is not always... -
I don't think you are hearing things. My stomach tends to make a lot of noise on occassions and I never noticed it prior to being gluten free. Mind you I did not notice many things then, I thought everything that was wrong with me, was just me and got on with it. I don't know about you, and it is a possibility, but my stomach gets noisier when I have...

ARCHIVED Can You Sense Gluten In The Air?
Kaycee replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Carol, It is interesting that you wrote this as I experience similar, and yes the smell of toast is enough to get me. And yes I would say I can sense gluten in the air, probably not all gluten. But I do not get pangs in my stomach. Firstly when I went gluten free, I noticed immediately the smell of bread as I walked past it in the supermarket. It... -
Welcome Tippy Hope to see more of you here on the forum. And it is so true Momma Goose, and I had never thought about that before, that we all all had our duties and specialized in them I am not quite sure what my duty is, but I guess I will slot into my position eventually. Cathy

ARCHIVED Buy gluten-free Bread Or Make gluten-free Bread?
Kaycee replied to jen2be2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I make my own gluten free bread. I make mine from a pre-mix in a breadmaker. I play around with it and add different flavours and things, such as seeds, or tomato paste and onion with mixed herbs. At $6 a loaf, I can't afford to bou it and it tastes horrible, well that is my opinion. As it is only me eating it, I slice and freeze it so I can grab as...
