Kaycee replied to jerseyangel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Good luck Bev. Mine wasn't so bad, and hope yours comes back fine as well. It is always the waiting for results or anything that is the hardest Cathy -
ARCHIVED Someone Reported Me For Using Toaster Bags
Kaycee replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Toaster bags are great. My black ones are said to be usable for 300 times, and the gold ones up to 100. There was a fund raising option put to our primary school at the end of last year, to sell toaster bags and earn money at the same time, and as I had heard about them, I was keen. As the postal address was just round the corner I put in a personal... -
No, I don't know, but would like to know as my ridges are vertical but not very pronounced, not like my sons who are definately more pronounced. I am the gluten intolerant and he has not been diagnosed. Also my nails are still pretty brittle after a year of being gluten free, but they are probably a bit stronger than they were. Do they ever come right...

ARCHIVED Gluten Intake Or A Stomach Virus?
Kaycee replied to TonyG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is possible the chicken gave you food posioning. It is notorious for creating stomach problems if not cooked or stored correctly. Hope you are feeling better. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Floating Stool
Kaycee replied to jennifervan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jennifer, I have been gluten free for just over a year, and yes mine still float. Sometimes they sink, and that feels great. But they usually float and the diahrroea has gone, but they still float. I have gotten used to it, and not expecting it to change. -
I agree it is not easy going cold turkey. Marcia had a good point, only buy non gluten food and eventually you will run out of food containing gluten. Also, make sure there is something nice in your pantry for you to eat that is gluten free, so that when you are desperate for something nice, you can eat it quite safely. Being vegan probably narrows...

Thanks again Ann This has all bought more questions into the fore. But I think you have given me the right tools to answer them myself now. Thanks a heap. And I did forget to mention nuts and seeds in my rundown as I do like them and add them in here and there. It gets a bit messy trying to convert grams to ounces, but we are metricated down here,...

Thanks for your reply Ann I am not sure how much to eat as in protein. What would you recommend For protein this morning I had a couple of scrambled eggs, lunch saw me eat 1oz (30g) of cheese, and for tea I average probably about 3-4 oz (100 grams) of meat, chicken, lamb or pork. I will be alternating with cottage cheese, yoghurt, cans of tuna or salmon...

I am at last trying a low carb diet. It is my third day and I have noticed that I am not as hungry and my tum is always feeling full, nearly like it is bloated but not at all uncomfortable. Is this normal? and if it is this is wonderful and would mean that eating too many carbs makes you hungry. But then it is so hot here. I am trying to keep around...

ARCHIVED Omg Did Anyone Just Watch Cn8 Program On Celiac?
Kaycee replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
Judy, don't you wish no-one saw the program because of all the inaccuracies in it, especially for the people who do not have much knowledge about coeliac and wanted to watch and learn a little bit. These programmes when brought to us by suppossed people in the know, and when full of innaccurate information do more harm than good for someone just starting... -
Kai ora Rrebecca, Don't you just love the way we are told we are getting old when it comes to our eyes. I have only just been and had my eyes re-tested, I have had glasses for years due to short sightedness. I know back in the my twenties I was told I had a stigmatism, and the optician last month described it as a mixture of short sightedness and...

ARCHIVED This Is Kind Of Gross...
Kaycee replied to chocolatelover's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chocolatelover, Before diagnosis I usually had one trip to the bathroom in the morning, and that would be diarhoea, but usually only the once a day but it was not watery, just like the toothpaste consistency you describe, and floating. Randomly in the middle of the night, especially after eating too much during the day, as in special morning teas, or... -
ARCHIVED Update/ To Brother In A Heap

ARCHIVED Symptom: I Can't Talk
Kaycee replied to wwebby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmmmm?? At times when I get glutened I feel like I am tripping over my words, or trying to speak too quick. I usually know what I want to say, but have problems getting the words out correctly, on top of that I do feel dumb when that happens and sometimes simple words are lost, I can't think of them. So I imagine it can be the gluten doing that to... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, Georgie, in reply to your question about cadbury's and their easter eggs, maybe this site might help, I am not too sure how up to date it is. Open Original Shared Link Really isn't it a bit early to be thinking of easter eggs? Never. I know the other day I saw hot cross buns in the supermarket. I think it is so crazy how they put these things... -
ARCHIVED Sushi?
Kaycee replied to Sinenox's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Over here in New Zealand they put a type of vinegar and seasoning in the rice to make it hold together and or to give it a bit of flavour. Could be that. And yes surimi, or fake crab meat has gluten, and I miss that. From what I have seen of the seaweed it is usually just 100% seaweed. Hope you are feeling better. Cathy -
ARCHIVED My Gluten Free Weight Loss Story- 80 Lbs Down
Kaycee replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wish I could say this was my story with weight loss. But no, I am the one who has more or less stayed the same. I don't eat much in the way of processed food, and I still eat a bit of bread, cakes and potatoes, but much less than I did before. I have already cut out breakfast cereal. I know that if I start eating the way suggested in this thread,... -
ARCHIVED How Likely Is It?
Kaycee replied to Guhlia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Guhlia, you could be describing my husband! I like you do wonder as well, but have decided to leave it at that for the sake of peace. I am a worry wart at best and I seem to take a big interest in his health, at times I think I overdo it, and maybe it is me with the problem, not him. There is a chance that your husband could have problems with gluten... -
ARCHIVED Has It Stopped Since Going Gluten-free
Kaycee replied to Rusla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Rusla, I had the head itching before going gluten free, and probably a little bit down the nether regions. But I have noticed of late, if I get glutened yes my whole body seems itchy and dry and dare I say it in my sleep my fingers start itching where I would not dare mention. But I can remember more about reading a book in bed, and my hand scratching... -
ARCHIVED Pitfalls Of Self-diagnosis
Kaycee replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Geoff sorry for beating up on you. You words were well put Fiddle-Faddle. I agree completely with what you say, and if I had thought about the other side of things, my answer would've been completely different. Every body has their own strategy for coping and everybody is different. Thanks for your commonsense. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Kaycee replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My diet seems to agree with me too. I limit my carbohydrates, especially the breads and cakes. But eat heaps of fruit and veges and protein, along with rice and spuds. I try not to eat anything processed as that is where the cost of the diet will get horrendous. Both manufacturers and myself will experience a growth margin. And yes the more bread and biscuit... -
ARCHIVED Pitfalls Of Self-diagnosis
Kaycee replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Geoff you did have a choice and you have chosen to be healthy. Having control over my diet gives me the upper edge, otherwise it would feel like the disease having control over me. I would rather be in control of the disease. I would like to think I had the choice in which food I ate, and I think I do, even though according to most of the population... -
ARCHIVED Xanthan Gum
Kaycee replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Elizabeth, I have just done a quick search on the net under xanthan and laxatives (as I had heard in the past it can be used as a laxative), and it says it can have a laxative effect on some people. But I wouldn't have thought the amount we use would be a problem. But in having said that, I have always wondered why manufacturers would put a mild laxative... -
Lisa, this reminds me of when my sister was so terrified when she invited me to tea one night. She has toyed with the idea of being coeliac herself, but disbelieves it now, but non-the less she knows the diet. Well she was terrified and paranoid, worse than me, and I trust her. So next day, I had to text her on my mobile to say, yes Liz I was fine...
