  1. Chloe, welcome. Like you, I went on a diet and lo and behold, all my symptoms improved at the start, but I was still eating a bit of gluten, so they came back. But unlike you, I took another year to really get down to the bottom of what was wrong with me, and by then I had self diagnosed myself visited the doctor and the test results confirmed it. ...
  2. I can't remember exactly when I started to get symptoms, but they gradually got worse. I have had traumatic times, and children and surgery, so it could be any of those. Acutally I think my symptoms became more noticable when there wasn't as much stress in my life. But I feel my body had been building up to coeliac most of its life, but slowly, with odd...
  3. 14 times a day, I had to laugh, as I honestly did not think I even got close to 14 times a day (maybe 10 times) pre diagnosis. I was being economical with my estimates and trying to be a lady, yeah right! But yes I did have gas and it was not pleasant. I remember when my son went to Australia to live, my other son said, the loo won't smell as much, wrong...
  4. Me diagnosed at 48, and am now nearly 50 Cathy
  5. Also Rebecca, be very careful not to wipe your good eye after you have cleaned the goopy one with the same cloth. That could pass on the infection to your good eye. Cathy
  6. Piesmom No offence taken, for all our best intentions in the world I still make mistakes. We all do, there is no way of getting around it, it is so hard to make informed choices, and you are right if in doubt leave it out. But I do think the manufacturers should take more care in their labelling to make our choices much easier. Cathy
  7. Nicole, I am not sure if you and your husband are gluten intolerant, coeliac or gluten sensitive. I have coeliac and I have the same reactions, whereas before, I wouldn't have known if I had eaten gluten, but now that I have given up gluten, I do know when I have eaten it, as I am sick. I am feeling so much better in myself, but I didn't know or think how...
  8. Would just like to say your husband is so lucky that you have put so much time and effort into his diet. It is not easy is it? I just hope he appreciates what you do. Cathy
  9. Piesmom, welcome and you bring up a good point. How do we know what has gluten in or not.? In NZ and America foods that contain gluten are legally meant to be labelled as such. And if it is not labelled gluten, we should be able to eat it in theory, but I don't trust them 100%. But I think it is a bit unfair of you accusing people of eating gluten deliberately...
  10. I was a bit bored this afternoon, after having gastroscopy yesterday, and not feeling too great, so I am taking it easy today, and have been trying to tidy up my computer, and going into this forum now and then. Love this forum, but I now and again check out the star ratings, don't know why, as I don't even donate stars to anyone except for once. But...
  11. And in NZ too. I'm crave hot chips, but then they could have gluten Cathy
  12. I'll toss you for Johnny. Keith's a bit too old for me.
  13. Everything gluten free has been foremost in my mind for the last year. I have neglected my family, my friends and probably my job in my quest to get on top of gluten. It has been quite heavy going, and being an older person I have even been stressing out on what else I can have wrong with me. So far it is just coeliac, but I go for a biopsy on Thursday...
  14. Dingogirl, I so appreciate the goofy threads, I may not have a lot to do with them, but life can be so serious at times, it is a treat to read something that makes me laugh. Cathy
  15. Jestgar, well put. I'm a sketic as well, but not as grouchy. (You grouchy?) I always question what I am told and see how or if that imformation applies to my own situation, I never ever believe anything just because someone told me it was true, but it gives me food for thought and maybe looking at the problem in a different angle, and I never expect...
  16. So true, they need to be friendly. We have a local pizza place here that has a list of all ingrediants that they may use and whether they contain gluten or not. They do an awesome gluten free base. Maybe all staff need to be educated more on gluten free diets, but sometimes that just goes in one ear and out the other. Cathy
  17. Thanks for the thread Nancy. I must admit life is pretty busy, and being a member of a forum can take up a lot of time, but I have found this forum very imformative, and of course we all need to develop of bit of confidence in ourselves before we can impart some of our newfound knowledge to newbies. Since I have been gluten free for a year, and I am...
  18. Angel, This happens to me all the time, I go out, come home, and hey, I'm still hungry. Never ever seem to get as full as I did in a previous life, I have just lost my capacity to eat too much. You must be coeliac if ...... the day the plumber arrives you have stomach problems and need the loo a bit more frequently That happened to me this...
  19. Richard, it sounds like Kraft has too much flour and does not know what to do with it, so adds it willy nilly here and there. Yeah right! That comment made me laugh. Another thing, is Crystal Light a powdered drink concentrate? If it is, I would just like to add that in NZ we buy Raro which is a powdered drink, you just add water and mix, and it warns...
  20. Elizabeth this makes perfect sense and I have my worries about it as well, and was going to mention it, but my previous post was long enough! What if we take up the challenge and rename our diet or their diet so that there is no mistake about which is which. Is the diet fad, totally gluten free or just wheat free? For my sister in law it was totally...
  21. Gentleheart I think the reason you are gaining weight instead of loosing it is probably because now that you are eating the right food for you, minus the gluten, your body is absorbing more readilly the food you eat, whereas previously for me and probably for you, it didn't hang around long enough in the digestive system to get abosorbed. Whereas...

    Then I Go Wow!

Today started off bad, at 8 am the phone goes, and it is the hospital telling me that they have booked me in for a gastroscope next Thursday at 8am. I know I need it done, even if I have been gluten free for over a year, just think it took a year for the appointment to come through. The doctor said it would take a while and that by the time I got it done...
  23. This is a hard question. Out of my immediate family parents, 3 brothers, three sisters and my 4 children, only four of them have tested for coeliac and their results came back negative. So as it is, I am the only one diagnosed with coeliac, whereas there probably could be a couple of other family members who should be gluten free, as it is hereditary,...
  24. Bronco, it is good that your mother got tested. And I can understand your mixed feelings, I think we all can understand them. All I want is my immediate family to get tested (not all of them have) so that they know either way whether they have the disease or not. If they all got tested, I would be able to rest a little easier for them. It is not because...
  25. I think brendygirl is probably right. I have thin enamel as well and the dentist always says don't brush too hard, and to worry about my gums more. As a child I had countless fillings, but that eased off as I got older, and I haven't had many cavities since my thirties, but they are still not good teeth. Cathy
