Lonewolf I so know what you mean about being so tired and when I am tired, I tend to eat easy things, like todays menu. Not a bad day, and not a spud in sight. I tell you I've probably eaten spuds every day of my life! B - Yoghurt and stewed rhubarb S - Peach, plum, raw carrot, apricot L - Curried veges (Oops, I spotted a spud in there!), rice noodles... -
Yes I could use west/east, but it could be a bit difficult, I mean wouldn't you need the sun out to know which way is which, and there aint much here today! Lol Compass! Cathy

I'm just telling tales on myself here as I have problems with knowing my right hand from my left. I know for sure I write with my right hand, but if I am asked for directions to anywhere I have to think very carefully before I answer. Sometimes I am so confident, I will blurt out go left, only to realise hey that was wrong. Even if the harder I think about...

ARCHIVED Food Coloring In Frozen Salmon
Kaycee replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So like I have heard before, it is manufacturers giving us the customer what we want. Salmon that looks like salmon, foods that don't go off too quick, vegetables that don't look like they have been eaten by bugs, bigger servings, the list goes on. This is when they add all the additives and preservatives, and then they say they only put them in because... -

Autumne, hamburger meat, is that what we call mince here? Well I buy minced (ground) up beef and put just 100% minced meat into a tupperware hamburger maker, freeze it and when I want something to go with tea, wait for it, I fry it with a bit of oil! Well I did used to do that, but now on a diet, will have to re-look at that. But a little bit of oil in... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal
Kaycee replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I got a little bit of withdrawals. The first couple of days gluten free were good, but then I hit the stage where I was a bit anxious and probably how do I put it, not quite steady in my brain or footings. But that was only for a day or two, I was walking the dog and thought I felt peculiar then just realised I was trying to give up gluten, so I just thought... -
I would get mouth ulcers, not a lot but a few. I remember one very big extremely painful sore, Ouch. But since being gluten free they have all but disappeared. So I think there is a connection there. My teenage son gets them, has been tested for coeliac but results came back negative, he also has reflux, so there is a worry that he has it. Cathy

Forgot to write in what I ate yesterday, but I actually ate some gluten free bread, chock full of carbs and topped with cottage cheese. It was nice, but I think I will wait a few more days for the next slice of bread. I have got quite a freezer full of gluten free tidbits, like muffins, pancakes that do need to be eaten, but not today, they will keep. ... -
ARCHIVED A New Thought About Iodine...
Kaycee replied to MGoers37's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
That is very interesting. I know I have heard somewhere that coeliacs should avoid iodine, but I am not sure who and why it was mentioned it, just something I have heard in passing. I don't avoid iodine, as I never considered it a gluten problem, but that is very interesting what you have said. Cathy -

I'm basically following a calorie counting diet, I have tried others, but if I can't see how much has gone in my mouth, I underestimate what I have eaten and eat more. But I have reduced the carbs in my diet, like never before. I notice I am not so hungry, not sure about the energy levels, as I am still on holiday, but next week at work will be a test... -
ARCHIVED My Story, Looking For Opinions From You Experts!

It is just a myth that all coeliacs are skinny, because I know a few like me who have got weight issues. Cathy -

Viola, I'm a old hand at the calories. You might be able to find a calorie counter on the net. But here they have dumped the calories and replaced it with kilojoules and they are about 4 times the number of calories, but I like calories, 1200 sounds better than 5000 kilojoules. As for fruit, an average banana has about 95cals , apples about 50, plums... -
Bearodilla, like Viola, I do have problems with coke. I know it is gluten free and all that, but then I have problems with caramel colouring. So if anything on a lable shows up as 150, I avoid it like the plague. They make me crook. So I just settle with 7-up lemonade and gingerale, even the diet ranges are okay for me. I thought for a long time it was...

ARCHIVED Before Diagnosis
Kaycee posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes. A lot of new people here, just diagnosed or suspicious they might have problems with gluten might think we know it all, but I would just like to remind them, that some of us went in knowing virtually nothing about coeliac, gluten intolerances and sensitivities, and that we are still learning all... -

AutumnE, thanks for that. He is feeling better. We were so worried it was heart problems, but that appears to be okay, all he is left with is feeling weak and with incessant burping. His appetite is back, but he is not eating gluten. I'm a bad influence! He does have reflux and asthma. I looked up on the net about burping and it says could be stress, an... -
Mango, you'll have to start saving again. The bananas in Oz would've been expensive when you were there because a cyclone wiped out a lot of the crops in Queensland, and from what I gather they did not want to import bananas into Australia. But we don't grow them here, and have to import them, probably anywhere but from Australia, but per kilo they are...

ARCHIVED Two Minute Microwave Hamburger Buns
Kaycee replied to hangininthere's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think the reason the recipe does not need or use gums is because protein holds things together a bit like the gumes. I always put an egg into my bread mixes and they hold together real good. Cathy -

Shannon, only 3 bars, I would've had the whole packet! You're doing fine. I'm lucky it is summer and I am not as hungry, and will in a minute eat some strawberries. While eating gluten before dx, like a lot of people I found a diet impossible as I was always hungry. It felt that the rules were not written for my body as I was always hungry and thought... -
A lot happens in a year In a year, I've gone from food ignaramous to foodie. Junk food eater, to food nut. I used to read labels on products to guage the fat and calorie content, but now it is more for the ingredients. Last week I found out that food labels contain the amounts of protein and carbohydrates in them My favourite reading went from bestsellers...

ARCHIVED Facial Redness
Kaycee replied to Moondanse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Two years prior to going gluten free my face used to feel hot everyday especially after lunch! Bread was usually my lunchtime choice then. Then I went on a diet, and then I noticed I did not get that hot flushed feeling after lunch anymore! So I just naturally thought it was because I was getting healthier and maybe it was blood pressure related, even though... -

B:Stewed rhubarb with yoghurt L: banana, peach, plum T: Boiled potato, 2 chicken drumsticks, salad, peas. Dessert 100g icecream with stewd apricots. Quite a light day, estimated to be 1000 cals, even with the icecream. Spent most of the day up in the emergency room with husband who has not been well lately. He came back smiling and feeling better, relieved... -

Lorka, I understand that eating not enough will send the body into starvation mode. What is the minimum amount of calories to eat. I try to eat between 1200 and 1500. I have not seen any weight loss for about 2 years, as at times I even go up to 2000. I will not dare go below 1200 because of what you say. But then, what if I, or someone else is falling... -
ReneCox, I love bananas too. But I have to limit to at least one a day as they are full of calories!. Is your addiction causing you health problems? How many do you eat? I'm not sure whether ithey would be a problem unless you have a reaction to them health wise. The only problems I have with bananas is the price at times, like now they are $2.35 a kilo...

ARCHIVED Pitfalls Of Self-diagnosis
Kaycee replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Fiddle Faddle We do not have a choice with the disease, I agree. I will never ever choose, let alone think to have a slice of bread again. I made that choice when I was diagnosed, as I said to myself "well I have had my last sandwich!" I think now that my choice has been made and I do not have to think about that anymore, it is a done deal. Maybe... -

AutumnE, good luck with your diet. I need to loose weight too. And I say this after eating chips and a couple of meat patties for my tea, along with some marsmallows and a fizzy drink. As you can guess, this is my rest day where I try not to be too strict on myself. I do it about once a week. I have found it so hard to loose weight since being gluten...
