  1. Sweet thanks! I'll check back. I hope a lot of people come out, it could encourage them to do gluten-free more often (or. . *gasp* permanently!)
  2. I learned the hardway last Wednesday. I ordered off a gluten free menu without speaking to the manager and I got sick for a couple days. I am still itchy from the DH. Be safe and enjoy your dinner!
  3. Please be careful with yourself. I agree with everyone and I did see my diagnosis as a good thing even if it's hard. And it IS hard, but worth it. I am under 30 and have bones like a 70 year old. Before I knew any of this, I was learning to go over jumps in the snowboard park. I want to be doing that for years, but I don't know if I'll break a hip, now...
  4. Thanks for sharing, that's pretty close to me & I'd like to go. I think I'll call to see if the crust is egg and dairy free, too. Do you have any more info? What is the RSVP they are talking about?
  5. You took the words right out of my mouth! (also. . .rice and beans, can't get cheaper and you can do mexican, indian, salads, & soups all with the same base. Just change spices)
  6. I don't really have anything to add but wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!
  7. That's a great idea TinkerbellSwt. I did not speak with the manager. And. . to give them some credit they did separate my food from the huge spread for the department. Still. . . I let down my guard and it was that easy to get cc and sick. I prolly won't go to that one again, but it is a good lesson in never letting up. I tried to make less of a deal about...
  8. Thanks Suicidal Turtle. This Chili's was in the Lincoln Mall in Lincoln, RI. I had Kettle Black beans, pico, salsa, guac, and rice, all from the gluten-free menu. Alas. perhaps there was some nitwit speak.
  9. Sorry you guys all got sick from popcorn and the "butter". I will take heed and bring my own virgin corn, thanks for the warning.
  10. First off, congrats on your baby! Glad you have an official dg and are feeling better. Just wanted to add my friend's sister in law's celiac was triggered during her pregnancy. There is going to be a great big gluten free table at my friends upcoming wedding. I keep hearing about her SIL and will finally meet her!
  11. I am wondering whats up with my cycle as well. I wish you good luck and good health and hope you figure out what is going on. I have been gluten-free since May and off the pill since Aug. My periods are really far apart and I am taking vitimins. I don't think I am technically underweight but have lost a little, only because I don't eat as many cupcakes...
  12. I am a fan of Rainbow Light Just Once Prenatal One. It says right on it that it contains no gluten (and other stuff I don't want). It has ginger in it to help tummies and does not make me burpy. I picked up my first bottle per a random woman's recommendation in Whole Foods. I was staring at the plethora of bottles and she came by and grabbed that right...
  13. I usually never go to places like chili's or even outback, however we had a department lunch at work last week and I noticed they had a gluten-free menu. I ordered very carefully and made sure they knew about celiac disease. I know you can't be 100% safe at a restaurant, but I was throwing caution to the wind and trusting their impressive list of menus with...
  14. Great post Kari. Thanks for sharing and I am happy you ate so well! I've never been taken such good care of than at one of the better restaurants I have eaten at, since going gluten-free. They told me how they would prepared it and it was even better than I would have thought of! (With the exception of my fabulous husband who makes gluten-free vegan food...
  15. Woohoo! I add my congratulations! It is certainly worth celebrating! I salute you and your highly functional GI system!
  16. Hi, i am not from Maine, my hubby is. We travel there a lot for family things Where in Maine are you?
  17. haha. . weird. p.s. not did he get what you were asking all wrong. . .not all beer is vegan! That's SO cool! I had a funny experience at a Thai restaurant. I was asking the server about the sauce. Sometimes I press my luck due to language barriers, but not on this day. No language barrier at all so I was all excited...
  18. I hear that. Thanks for the recipes and suggestions. Trader Joes also carries frozen fries you can throw in the toaster oven. They are mighty good, but man I miss french fries out.
  19. I miss them. Are there any chains or local places (in MA / New England) where you know they are safe? So far I have not found any. Happy weekend everyone : )
  20. That was my first thought as well! So wrong. So sorry your family has to go through this. that's a great letter!
  21. I'm a ninja!
  22. Everyone suggestions are really good so far. I might add to introduce different styles of food to her. I think I was worse than your daughter at age 9. I was. . .er. . .I am. . .so picky. However, I have had great luck with expanding my food options with other cultures foods. I was not really introduced to it as a kid. It was all-american diet...
  23. That's a good way to put it for me too. It is important to maintain a gluten free diet in order for your body to properly absorb nurtients and all that. Besides feeling a little bit (or a lot) bad after I ate, I felt fine. Little did I know I was not absorbing calcium and now have low bone denisty. I hope you do not have complications but no gluten is...
  24. I'm in the club now, whether I like it or not. Had a bone scan last Wed. Doc called this morning to tell me to take 1500mg of cal a day because I've got osteopenia. I don't know the results in detail; they'll mail them to me. Just turned 28 a week ago. Happy birthday to me. I guess it's good to know now and try to reverse it. I would have never guessed...
