  1. The site will work with Firefox 2 (I'm using version 2.0.0.3) as long as you have the flash plugin. Spyware is virtually a non-issue with FF, plus if you install the Adblock Plus extension and subscribe to their filter service (all free), you're not gonna see those ads, or tons of ads all over the web for that matter. love it!
  2. goldfish food flakes contain wheat. I got myself good with this one several times before I noticed they did. I haven't found any yet that are "safe"....ridiculous. fish aren't supposed to eat wheat
  3. If you wanted to be extra-sure they were OK, you could always buy raw shelled almonds (or other nuts - except I think you leave peanuts in the shell for this? not sure.). They are easy to roast yourself, just put them in a pan in the oven on a low temp (275-300) and stir every few minutes. It has been awhile since I have done this, but it seems it took less...
  4. Thank you!! I found this word in the ingredients of my body wash, as part of the phrase "Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride" and I am hoping that in this instance maybe it is from guar gum instead of wheat. I will call the co. tomorrow and check. EDIT: hey this is kind of neat, I found a website where you can search pretty much anything as...
  5. ok, I'm sorta feeling dumb here. what is this word???
  6. Does anyone know of a list of gluten-free drugs manufactured/sold outside of the US? I know this is probably frowned upon, but I do order a couple of meds online, (nothing narcotic/scheduled, both hormone-related) because I can't get them here in the US, and they work well. I also can't find them on any lists, safe or unsafe. I've been having a problem...
  7. I am not sure if this is the case in every state, but it may be...the minimum to pay without going to collections in the state I live is $5.00 per month...that is exactly what I have been paying the so-called doctor who diagnosed me with "just IBS" a year ago. It has not and will not go to collections as long as I keep up payment. $6,000+ bill @ $5/mo...it...
  8. Thank you! Nifty information, how it's made and all. Guess I could have googled it, but it just didn't occur to me at the time. There goes my excuse for not sweeping!
  9. This sounds fantastic! Any suggestions on substitutions for the pecans? My daughter is intolerant to pecans and walnuts, allergic to peanuts and cashews, but can eat almonds with no problem...would they work in this recipe? Also (I'm new to making crusts that include nuts, sorry! ) do you measure 1/2 cup and then chop, or use 1/2 cup of already...
  10. Blue Plate brand sandwich spread tastes almost identical to the big mac sauce! AFAIK, it is gluten-free (it was when I last ate it a couple months ago). I have not found another brand of sandwich spread which tastes as good as this one does.
  11. What is the straw in (non-plastic) broom bristles made from? I was sweeping the kitchen floor recently and panicked when I suddenly realized I had no clue what material this is!
  12. Hi! If you look at the top of the thread, on the right there is an "Options" button..click this and under "Display Modes" click "Switch to: Standard". The other display modes are annoying! HTH
  13. This is interesting...a couple of days ago I was reading the transcript of a prank phone call from zug.com to frito-lay, where the guy claims his daughter is "allergic" to gluten.. the frito-lay girl's response was "well, you may not want to give this product to her then".
  14. NoGluGirl, which of the tresseme shampoos do you use? All of them I have looked at have hydrolized wheat protein in the ingredients so I'd love to know which one doesn't. I miss my tresseme!
  15. I just assumed that cornflour == cornstarch, that's what I used when I made it and it turned out great!
  16. votefortheworst.com is behind this one, and thanks to a mention on Howard Stern's radio show, they have a LOT more publicity this year than in the last couple of years. :\
  17. I've done it before...for a whole three days, hehe. Its AKA the Master Cleanse. In those 3 days, I did drop about 10 pounds, mostly water weight I'm assuming. The fast is safe for diabetics when used with molasses instead of maple syrup (molasses tastes NASTY in the lemonade though) so I'm assuming it would be safe for hypoglycemic, but to be sure, you...
  18. This stuff is heavenly!! I had never even heard of pavlova before this post, thank you! I am definitely going to try the chocolate one next, the picture of it has me drooling.
  19. My body hates me when I eat bananas. It has gotten much worse since I have gone gluten free, not sure why. I get major bloating and D and heartburn that feels like I have swallowed the most corrosive acid ever made. I thought it was peanut butter @ first, cause I most always eat PB on bananas, but eating PB separately does nothing. Is she eating all these...
  20. Hi, I'm not sure about which clarifying shampoos you could use, but I do know that a rinse in vinegar-water works really well for clarifying. Apple cider or white vinegar both work just as good as far as I can tell, plus your hair will be really soft afterwards when it dries.
  21. I think it is entirely possible that wheat flour in the air could be making you sick, especially if your mom is baking right before or during your stay. For a while, I let my kids bake their own pancakes/biscuits/whatever from bisquick mix. I wasn't even in the house during the whole process - I went next door to my mom's and waited for them to get completely...
  22. raven, thank you for that info, that is very interesting! so far they haven't called it that. she has 2 doctors and 2 MRI's and an ongoing argument about whether or not it is a low-grade glioma or a lesion similar to those seen in multiple sclerosis. after talking to her some more, I think I may have to come up with some cash in exchange for her agreeing...
  23. I definitely get weird cravings... the weirdest has to be when I want canned tomatoes with a bunch of vinegar dumped in. I think about it obsessively until I finally eat it!
  24. You are right, I wasn't sure which category to post under. That is a GOOD idea about the video camera!! thank you, I am going to try that for sure. The local hospital has a department that does overnight EEG study type things, and I'm going to keep pushing for them to repeat and keep her on longer (was only 30 mins yesterday) but I will definitely...
  25. Thanks Ursa and Sandy for replying. Ursa, I don't have a medical confirmation but I believe I have celiac. I definitely have gluten intolerance at the least. I do believe a gluten-free diet would benefit my daughter but that is something she absolutely refuses to try. She will be turning 17 this year so I'm not really sure if forcing her would do any...
