  1. Had no power all day yesterday. The house gets really cold when it's 20 degrees outside. Ended up going to a friends house for the night.
  2. So sorry mamaw. Loss is hard, no matter when it happens. Hugs to you and your family on the difficult road of healing from this.
  3. And classes at the U were canceled for both days, so homework due Monday.
  4. I heard about the mine this morning. So difficult for the community, and especially the families. We, as a species, need to stop using things that require people to spend hours underground. It seems there is no way to make the practice of mining truly safe. Hopefully BE's parents adored me. I served them dinner that BE made, and cleared up, and brought...
  5. I heard about the robot. Hope that turns out OK. My power went off about 5 am. I left at 11 when the house reached 45 degrees. I'm at BE's house, but his parents don't have power either, so he's gone to get them. :o   I'm in his shop, so can't hang around. Just wanted to email my prof that I won't make it to class tomorrow and...
  6. Big storm here. Took more than an hour to get from the boat to my house last night (4 miles). Power was out for a while and it's still flickering. Can't imagine what the roads are like. I have to figure out if I'm going to try to get into work or not. Not that I need to work, but I don't have a fireplace and it's pretty chilly in my house. Outside...
  7. I peel the orange and limit the amount of zest 'cause I don't really like the shock of the intense orange flavor. Maybe dried zest would be a little easier, or just skip it. You could flavor after cooking with a splash of orange liqueur if it needed a bit more. Some people put some orange concentrate in, but I don't like it too juicy. Not going to BE...
  8. pile the peeled, sliced, taters and yams in the crockpot along with chopped onion and some orange slices. A bit of orange zest is good too, if you like the surprise 'zing' of serious orange flavor while you're eating. You could also add some pie apples, but maybe halfway through cooking so they don't get mushy. Cook on low for ~6 hours (check them for...
  9. It's snowing here on our little island. No stickage, but it's pretty to watch.
  10. They served these last night, on the end of a stick so people ate them like lollipops.
  11. I only had two tiny glasses of wine then switched to water. Whatever allergens I was consuming made it difficult to breath and I didn't want to make that worse with alcohol. Not sure what else was in the sausages. Peach maybe (allergic to peaches).
  12. Went to a fab party last night that my friend threw for her hubby's sixtieth. Catered treats, live swing band, lots of theater people. I could only eat the shrimp and sausage, but I heard the bread dipped in fondue was nasty, so I'm not terribly distressed. Got soyed, I think, so a bit of a headache, but it should pass.

  17. The short answer is, anything you want, or nothing at all. It's up to you.
  18. I had no idea who he is so I went to his website. The Conan clip is on it, if anyone else would like to see. pretty funny.
  19. Good to know you care for the wildlifes.
  20. mmmmmmmmmm Lo, you just happened to be on here with two gals who love treats.
  21. meringue cookies dipped in chocolate, or dip the cut end of a strawberry in chocolate and stick it in the middle of the cookie. Open Original Shared Link mousse if you can do dairy. Open Original Shared Link orange cake. Open Original Shared Link
  22. I interpreted Em's post as meaning that celiac disease can be treated, and most of the time cured with the proper diet, whereas there are diseases that are debilitating and progressive that we really have no way of treating.
  23. Well, I took tomorrow off so that should give me plenty of time to try one of everything - maybe even the unusual  (assuming, of course, he reaches his moment of fulfillment first....)
  24. Poor little guy (and big guy). Whatever the test results show, you can always try changing his (their) diet, starting with gluten, to see if it helps.
