  1. YAY!!! Good for you!! I've also decided to go back to school (part time - not quitting my job). I'm so panicked about having forgotten everything that I got some previous edition textbooks from Amazon and I'm trying to review everything.
  2. Oddly enough there are thousands of us with the same disease, and yet most of us seem to be able to live in the real world without hiding. No reason why you can't too.
  3. Better start eating more
  4. The tests for Celiac are based on production of antibodies to a specific region of gluten. They take your blood, put it on a plate with these specific sequences stuck to it, and then wash off your blood to see what stuck. If your body made antibodies to a slightly different region of the protein, your antibodies won't stick to the plate, and you will test...
  5. I know, keep posting so we can flip the page.
  6. I like the smell of skunk too, but I don't want them in my yard. If you have any raccoons in your area you need to talk to your neighbor. Raccoons love catfood, and they will kill cats. I admire her for feeding the strays, but she should bring the food in at night to protect the cats. I've also recently discovered that skunk spray can be toxic to...
  7. Whatever you decide to say, be casual, yet firm, and don't sound apologetic. It's the way you are, you have nothing to be shy about.
  8. I've discovered I'm growing at least three different types of squash. Good thing I like squash. Kinda fun to see the vegetable I recognize appearing on the plant that I don't.
  9. Odd bit of news. Forks, WA, which is basically a lumber town, has been in dire financial straits for years, until the vampires came... Apparently the hotel(s) are packed with all the "Twilighters" coming to visit. Kinda nice that a myth can save a town.
  10. Maxie's 'crit is up two points, and the three of us just had a glorious nap. Feelin' pretty decadent right about now. Emmy, I never have less than two bottles of wine, some chocolate vodka, and all kinds of mixers if you've got a hankerin. AND I know where the gluten-free pizza is...
  11. I ate pizza :o :D I went down a different aisle in the grocery store and walked past the gourmet freezer and there it was-- Amy's gluten-free pizza! While it was really fun to have pizza after three years, for $7 -on sale- it should have been a whole lot better....
  12. This is just too cool.
  13. Max seems better. I have to take him in for a blood draw daily, until his 'crit stops dropping. It was at 20 yesterday, which is at the bottom of the 'watch and wait' criteria. I'm hoping it will be the same today. Max is certainly perkier, and licking his tuna juice with more enthusiasm. I have 8 cans of different cat food open in my...
  14. For days I thought I was being followed by an invisible miniature duck, then I realized it was my new sandals.
  15. Your diet is your choice. Does it really matter if he believes you?
  16. So sorry Judes. Passing on a friend is so hard. Max is really sick. He apparently ingested some sort of poison that's causing hemolytic anemia. I'm just trying to keep him fed and hydrated and hope for the best. If his crit drops much lower he may end up with a transfusion.
  17. It sounds so scary for you. Has he tried doing an elimination diet to see if any of his pains go away when he cuts out different foods?
  18. I think the answer is: it's not clear. And really, it doesn't matter, the treatment is the same. If you want, tell people that you caught your Celiac disease before it had done too much damage, but you were starting to have malabsorption problems.
  19. Bring anything you want, just put it in a big purse/bag/tote. Don't ask anybody. They're all worried about the wedding anyway. Sit near an exit. If ya gotta run for it, cough quietly a couple times into your hand, then leave (as if you are trying not disturb the ceremony.
  20. Less likely. And you can argue with an insurance company that an association does not equate to disease, and therefor, there is no basis for discrimination. I'm also fairly certain that it's not legal in the US to discriminate based on genetics, but I don't know why I think that. Here's a related article: Open Original Shared Link Here we go: ...
  21. There is no Celiac gene. The HLA haplotypes are only associated with Celiac, not causative. Like blond hair is associated with Norwegians. If you are blond, it does not necessarily mean you are Norwegian, and if you are Norwegian, it does not necessarily mean you are blond, but they are associated: many blonds are Norwegian, and many Norwegians are blond...
  22. Bringing them in is probably the best plan. Hard to deny what's right in front of your eyes...
  23. I tried gardening for the first time this year. I didn't think anything would grow so I really didn't pay attention to what I planted where. THEN we've had this amazingly hot, sunny summer in Seattle, and almost everything I planted grew except I don't know what anything is...
