    I have psoriasis and gluten-free did nothing, but corn free clears it up almost entirely. It's an inflammatory disease, and removing whatever is causing the inflammation can improve it. For me, that was corn, for you and your mom it's gluten (or wheat, or barley, or rye).

    Luciferase activity of transfected cells..... It's quite cool, actually. You can hook up the gene from fireflies that makes the glow (luciferase) to a promoter for whatever gene you are interested in and put this into cells. Then when you try to "turn on" your gene of interest, it turns on the production of the luciferase. You light up the luciferase...

    hmmmm. I never eat at fast food places. If I'm stuck without food I'll go to a grocery or convenience store and buy some deli meat and cheese. gluten-free crackers if they have them.

    It's one of those rare mornings in the NW that remind us why we live here. Went out and pulled a few weeds while fantasizing about just skipping work for the day. Now I'm back in scarfing brekky so's I can scurry out the door early enough for a walk before the bus.

    My furs and feathers are all doing well. Wee chickies seem to eat about twice what I expect them to. Always starving when I get home. Cats, of course, are near death from lack of canned food at every occasion.

    Nice. My CSA has a local store. You just go in, collect what you want, weigh it, tally the cost, and put a -'that much' next to your name on the sheet.
