ARCHIVED The Celiac Genes
GlutenWrangler replied to Joyous's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
neesee, What the hell does that mean? Are you calling me a liar? Did it ever occur to you that I haven't checked the post in a few days? I live off of IV nutrition because I have so much inflammation from what the doctor calls "severe continuous celiac disease". So considering that my physical condition was life-threatening a few months back, I don't see... -
ARCHIVED Please Help....getting Very Frustrated With Continued Symptoms
GlutenWrangler replied to newceliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Going gluten-free is a tough learning experience. You need to be vigilant in all aspects of food preparation and eating. Right now I'm willing to be you are still dealing with gluten contamination in some way or another. Hidden gluten is everywhere, and it is something you need to learn how to avoid. Check everything that you eat, and if you're not sure,... -
Well there you go!

You should randomly mix Ex-Lax in your mom's drink and then see how she feels. It makes me sick when people say it's all in your head.

ARCHIVED 3 Years And Still Trying
GlutenWrangler replied to mandy0221's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mandy, I'm 23 years old also, and I went through what you are going through a few years back. But now I just can't eat at all. I get all of my nutrition through an IV. I haven't eaten in 6 months. So please heed my advice. You have a chance to get well. 3 years is an awful long time to avoid going gluten-free when you are a celiac. There are so many reasons... -
ARCHIVED The Celiac Genes
GlutenWrangler replied to Joyous's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wouldn't rely too much on the current knowledge of celiac genes. I don't have DQ2 OR DQ8, but I am a diagnosed celiac. I actually have been diagnosed with refractory sprue. There are definitely more genes involved. Give it time and I'm sure they will be recognized. -Brian -
Fiddle Faddle, the last vaccine I had was about 5 years ago. It was the meningitis vaccine for college. So I doubt it's anything to do with that. I haven't had any dental work recently either. But Lyme disease is a possibility. I have 4 dogs who go out for walks in the woods. One of our dogs actually had Lyme disease. I don't know if I have been tested or...

ARCHIVED Probiotic Help........
GlutenWrangler replied to JustJust's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do yourself a favor and buy Natren Healthy Trinity probiotics. I have tried many different brands and Natren is by far the best. It's a little expensive, but worth it. I had constipation too, and the Natren probiotics completely cured it. I know I probably sound like a salesman, but it is definitely a quality brand. But don't buy it off of the Natren site... -
Wow I appreciate all the responses. Yes I am the one who doesn't have the genes, but I was diagnosed by my gastroenterologist. Enterolab just confirmed it for me. So yes, my allergist thinks that I have refractory sprue. No biopsys have been done since June when I was hospitalized. My allergist said that even though I don't have the genes, it really doesn...

ARCHIVED Extreme Pain And Bizzare Symptoms!
GlutenWrangler replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lisa, It sounds like a blockage in your bile duct, possibly gallstones. You should definitely see a doctor asap. Take care, and good luck, -Brian -
Hello Everyone, I'm not sure if anyone remembers me. I haven't posted in months, but the last time I was on here I was having some serious problems with eating because of my GI issues, including celiac disease. So I ended up in the hospital in June because I couldn't eat anymore. I was down to 100 pounds. Because I couldn't eat, the doctors set me up with...

ARCHIVED Heads Up On Levaquin
GlutenWrangler replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm on Levaquin right now for a Pseudomonas infection. I had some rough side effects at first too, but nothing like you had. I'm currently on my 8th day, and I think my body is getting used to it. I was in a horrible mood and I felt almost dead for about 3-4 days, but it ended up going away. But keep in mind, I'm not a diabetic or an epileptic, so it is definitely... -
ARCHIVED Candida?
GlutenWrangler replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just as a side note: The diet is not meant to kill the candida. It is only meant to stop feeding it. It's pointless to follow the diet without adding something that kills the candida. It takes a multi-step approach. But the point is, if you really want to treat candida, the diet is an integral part, Threelac or not. -Brian -
ARCHIVED Candida?
GlutenWrangler replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You can still eat a lot of things. Fresh meat and vegetables are perfect. You can also have most nuts and seeds. Fruits contain natural sugars, so if you have severe candida, they may have to be avoided. If not, you can have almost all fruits except melons, because the skin is porous and mold can get inside. You have to avoid all refined sugars, moldy foods... -
ARCHIVED Candida?
GlutenWrangler replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The best way to find out if you have candida is to do a candida questionnaire. Do a search for "candida questionnaire", or even better "Dr. Crook's Candida Questionnaire". Dr. Crook is the leading candida expert. You will be able to tell by your score whether it may or may not be an issue. As for Threelac: I used Threelac and for about 6 days I felt great... -
ARCHIVED Sugar
GlutenWrangler replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you have candida and don't get rid of it, you'll never get better. It's definitely worth checking out. Just a side note, Threelac works well for many people, but it made me worse. Not really sure why. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Variants
GlutenWrangler replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have DQ1, subtype 5, and DQ3, subtype 9, and I have celiac disease, not just gluten intolerance. So that being said, there are definitely other variants out there. It is ridiculous for a doctor to say, "you can't have celiac disease because you don't have DQ2 or DQ8". That's just plain ignorance. I'm sure in time, other genes and factors will be identified... -
ARCHIVED Sugar
GlutenWrangler replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If sugar bothers you, you may have a Candida yeast overgrowth. Candida feeds on sugar, and causes a host of physical symptoms. There is a home test that you can do, called the saliva test. Search under "Candida saliva test" or "Candida spit test. That should tell you how to do it. If you do have it, the best product out there to get rid of Candida is called... -
ARCHIVED Good Vitamins/supplements While Starting gluten-free Diet
GlutenWrangler replied to newyorkdave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The best way to get nutrients is to eat a balanced, healthy diet. Try to avoid processed foods. Fresh meats, fruits and veggies are best. It's even better if you can afford organic products. You're really not missing anything from wheat and bread. Fresh foods contain everything you need. For gut repair, take L-Glutamine Jarrow Brand is gluten-free. Probiotics... -
ARCHIVED This Is Hard.....
GlutenWrangler replied to megifluflu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Megan, Doctors are horrible at diagnosing celiac disease. They would rather diagnose something that requires medicine, like IBS. If you believe that you have celiac disease, and the diet makes you feel better, that's all you need. Only you can make yourself feel better. I know that it's hard, especially at this age. I'm 22, and couldn't think of a worse... -
ARCHIVED Dizziness
GlutenWrangler replied to Linda56's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I used to get vertigo a lot. SInce going gluten-free, it has just about disappeared. I'm currently treating myself for Candida, and I'm having a pretty intense die off period. Last night before bed I had vertigo for the first time in a while. It kind of feels like the back of my head vibrates and then the room spins. I also get it before bad migraines. Emerging... -
ARCHIVED Always Blue, Are You?
GlutenWrangler replied to acod's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your son may be suffering from candidiasis, which is a yeast overgrowth. It causes a myriad of symptoms, including emotional symptoms. Risk factors include the use of antibiotics, overuse of antacids, and a high sugar diet. It's not always easy to test for, but you could try to have him tested. A product that a lot of people use is called Threelac, which... -
Fiber can be rough on the intestines, even more so in people with celiac disease. I eat a low fiber diet. Fiber draws water into the colon, which causes me to have dehydration. But I don't suffer from constipation, so eating low fiber is fine for me. Obviously fiber is good for those who sufer from constipation.

ARCHIVED Skip The Endoscopy!
GlutenWrangler replied to cautiousC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm also sorry about what you're going through right now. It is a very unfortunate thing to have happened, but it is also very very rare. An endoscopy is generally a harmless procedure, if performed by a doctor who knows what they are doing. Maybe your doctor made a mistake? Endoscopies are good for many different things. They can help to diagnose celiac...
