I have the best recipe EVER for 7-layer dip. Just beware though, people will want you to make this every time they see you! I have two friends that request it every year for their birthday! Layers: 1. Can(s) of refried beans along base of pan 2. 3-4 ripe avocados mashed up with lemon juice, salt & pepper OR some pre-made guacomole 3. Mix 2 cups... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Beer By Bud

Haha - Sterndogg, SO true about the Magners. Was in Manhattan last week and I was just psyched to drink something from the tap in a pint glass. Had 2 Magners, and was not happy about it later! Never had Strongbow - will look out for it, but will be partial to the Redbridge now. -
ARCHIVED Is Sushi Rice Gluten Free?
BostonCeliac replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for bringing this up! I'm really having issues lately figuring out what is OK to eat, but sushi rice?!?! Say it ain't so... I highly doubt chicken stock is used, but now I'm nervous, I always thought rice was OK (I have only the gluten issue, no others), ughh, i thought I was being good eating sushi, and I usually just get the plain-jane kind with... -

Woah - what kind of answer is that?! It makes me sortof annoyed. I wouldn't listen to anything that woman says... Maybe try emailing someone else who may have a better understanding of what's going on! Would love to hear what happens... I'm always on the lookout for good fries that I can eat. Thanks... -

Adam - Thanks so much for the info! I work right near Hanover St actually -- will be heading over there to stock up! You mentioned to me & thought everyone should know that the Retail Locator is working on the site! Go get some! I really like the taste of this because I used to LOVE Pale Ale's and this tastes just like Sierra Nevada (well, close enough... -
ARCHIVED Best Kind Of Bread?
BostonCeliac replied to Amanda L's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I enjoy the Food for Life bread - just the plain brown rice bread - I buy it from Trader Joes & it is not refrigerated or frozen, which apparently makes a difference (my sister said it looses something when it is frozen, but she's picky). I toast the bread though, don't like it plain. I hated the Ener-G bread personally - the Tapioca Loaf to be... -
ARCHIVED Need A Yummy Finger Food
BostonCeliac replied to olalisa's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you're into dips, here's an AWESOME, filling, warm dip: 1 cup mayo 1 cup sour cream 1 cup parmesan cheese 1 can artichoke hearts (drained & chopped) (also can add spinach, frozen or fresh chopped) Mix this all together - put in the oven covered at about 350, for about 1/2 an hour, then uncover & bake for another 15-20 minutes (brown top... -
ARCHIVED The Do'h I Glutened Myself Thread
BostonCeliac replied to Saz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ughh... just got back from lunch out with the office... I think I was definitely glutened by accident... I thought I would be fine, I had a burger with cheese - NO BUN OF COURSE, and fries (have had the fries at this place many times)... must have been the burger right? The fries may have been fried with other stuff too, but I'm sure it's always that... -

ARCHIVED Biopsy On Wednesday
BostonCeliac replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Wonka -- Don't be nervous! It's not bad.. I just had mine recently and it was really a piece of cake (gluten free cake that is!). I was really out of it for most of the day due to the anesthesia, I think they gave me alot. But I don't remember any of it, and I had a slightly sore throat afterwards which felt better with some tea & honey. No sweat... -

ARCHIVED Endoscopy...
BostonCeliac replied to clockworkjoce's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hey -- not sure exactly that line "not have to be performed through a natural opening" means -- weird. I had an endoscopy fairly recently, and it was the first "surgical" procedure I have ever had. I went into the hospital and my GI doc performed it - I had met with him prior to the procedure. Anyway, went in, was very hungry since you can't eat, and they... -
I would definitey NOT recommend a d%$#@#$ -- this can lead to a yeast infection!! I have been having similar issues -- and I think it has to do with all of the changes going on with the new diet. My doctor recommended I take a Probiotic Acidophilous (sp?) pill daily. Or you could eat yogurt daily as the previous poster recommended. This should help to...

ARCHIVED Hematocrit/severity Of Anemia
BostonCeliac replied to Rice Cakes's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I LOOOOOVVVEEE to chew ice! It's a horrible habit! It definitely started around the time I became anemic. I'm hoping the urge goes away, I still like/crave it. I still freeze my water bottles & only drink them when they're "crunchy" -- haha... it was actually my Mom who thought I was anemic when I started chewing ice - I got tested, and sure enough... -
ARCHIVED Hematocrit/severity Of Anemia
BostonCeliac replied to Rice Cakes's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
hey rice cakes -- looks likes there is some discrepancy about levels, but if we're on the same wavelength, mine started at an 18, 1 month gluten free went to a 28, but my doc said that for my age (26) it should be in the triple digits... so now I'm taking iron pills to try to get it up there... will be re-tested in about 2 months... -

I have a recipe for the best dip EVER... sounds too easy to be true, and it is! It's an artichoke/spinach dip that is always a huge hit... I usually wing this and have never written it down, but you'll get the idea... 1 can (drained) artichoke hearts 1 package frozen spinach - fresh is better if still available, or no spinach at all is good too! 1 cup... -
ARCHIVED Pasta?
BostonCeliac replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I heart Tinkyada, as I have mentioned many different times before -- I have a pantry virtually stocked with every brand they make (yum)... but I also wanted to say that I like the BioNaturé pasta -- it's made from potato, soy and rice... It's my sisters favorite over Tinkyada too... Good luck! -

That's great! I just did a similar thing -- made a lasagna and my boyfriend ate some of the leftover when he got home from work and had no idea that it was gluten free - and he said it was so good, and it was so nice that I made a lasagna FOR HIM -- and he was sorry I couldn't eat it ! HA... yeah right, I'm not THAT nice to him.. ha ha. LOVE... -

Hey Patti -- Your link for the Oxford Spa is not working, I googled them to see if I could find their site or a menu & came up with this: Open Original Shared Link But I don't see anything Gluten Free on there!? Do you jsut have to ask when you're ordering?? Also, since you're in the Boston area -- you can actually order a Bard's Tale... -
Lately when I go out to a non gluten-free place with friends - I usually end up getting a plain salad with oil & vinegar on the side - they always have that! I make sure to say NO CROUTONS! of course... sometimes they have a mashed potato side or something too... Salads are always a good go-to food though...
