  3. If there's no blood, I'd try to look as little as possible. Nothing good can come from it.
  4. Then don't make sweeping general statements.
  5. Read this book: Open Original Shared Link I felt it was very informative without straying into some of what I call the 'fringy' aspects you might find on a message board. But no, you can't cheat. Though it would be good to know that you can withstand a good sized dose without severe reaction. Your cross-contamination concerns should be greatly...
  6. I couldn't care less whether other people 'get it'. It's not their problem, it's mine (and my immediate family's). At this stage (3 weeks after diagnosis), I still like talking about it to anyone that will listen. Nobody doubts me and I think they're happy that I'll be feeling better. We're going home to my folks this weekend and it'll be my first time...
  7. I've submitted a question to International Paper. We'll see what they say. My technical side says that this end product, bio-plastic has very little to do with corn when it reaches it's final state. Is your corn and soy intolerance a digestion intolerance or more of a contact allergy?
  8. Not to pick nits, but she's probably losing weight due to malabsorption right now. She's not yet off gluten long enough to impact weight either way.
  9. The symptoms won't necessarily hit you immediately. There can be some time delay. If it is celiac, your symptoms are due to the sum total of the gluten you've been ingesting, not just a particular item. Regarding your doctor: Tell them what's going on. Demand a celiac panel.
  10. Personally, I'd keep the dog food in the garage. But I'd also think that a thorough hand washing with soap would be sufficient. Odds are he's not healed yet and he's going to have good weeks as well as bad. Good luck.
  11. Interesting, but: Your mileage may vary, but I'm doubtful that the end product is very 'corn'-like. Just like plastic doesn't closely resemble the crude oil it comes from. This product also sounds like it's in rather limited release as a hot coffee cup for Green Mountain Roasters. Not that it won't be used elsewhere eventually, but would it really...
  12. Obviously it's your call. If I had to guess, I'd say that if your damage was severe (and it sounds like it might be) two weeks won't really make a difference. I will say that, IMO, it's still important to go through the testing (and make sure they do a endoscopy) not so much to diagnose celiac but to eliminate other issues. A gluten-free diet won't do...
  13. Since your colonoscopy is coming up very soon, I'd avoid going on the diet until all the testing is done. Though it certainly sounds like celiac, going on the diet could potentially screw-up the tests. I'd also make sure that when they have you out for the colonscopy that they also do an endoscopy (through the mouth to check out the esophagus, stomach,...
  14. Just curious, but why would you think the paper cup was coated with corn? Aren't paper cups typically coated with wax?
  15. From the FritoLay website: I'm not sure how I feel about the cross contamination warning. I'd like to do a poll on the message to gather people's opinions, but that doesn't seem to be an option (I've seen similar message boards with that ability turned on). While I appreciate that certain individuals are more sensitive than others, it's sometimes...
  16. I've been gluten free for a couple weeks. Started feeling better almost immediately. Introduced something new to my diet today. Had a Boomi Bar. Label says gluten free. Company has discontinued products that used to contain gluten, so no cross contamination. My question is in regards to amaranth. There was puffed or crisped amaranth in the bar. ...
  17. My gastroenterologist referred me to the hospital's registered dietician. My first consult is next Tuesday. Things have stabilized since going on the diet, but I'd like some advice on how to gain back some weight quickly. I have every reason to believe that this will be covered by insurance.
  18. My feeling is that most of the people who have stories to tell, have those stories because they are highly sensitive. Nobody wants to tell a tale where nothing happens. Therefore when viewed from the perspective of this message board, the extreme elements of the disease tend to carry more weight. In my opinion, I see no reason to believe that celiac...

    ARCHIVED Writing To Old Doctors

    Great post.
  20. I was diagnosed and have been on the diet for a little over a week. Weight-loss and D were the primary reasons I went to the doctor. I'm about 15-20 pounds under my typical weight and probably 30-35 under my ideal weight for my height. The diet has certainly stabilized the stomach issues and I'm feeling really good only a week into this. From a logical...
  21. Not laughing...but I wonder what the ppm count is on gluten-laden steam.
  22. Make sure it's clean.
  23. I don't think you'd need separate dishes (as long as they're not wood, scratched up plastic, or unsealed ceramic).
  24. Primary care doctor had me figured for IBS, depression, and anxiety. She said she'd refer me to any specialist I wanted to run whatever tests necessary so that I'd accept her diagnosis. Spent about 5 minutes with a gastro-doc who asked me a handful of questions. I told him recurring D and 20 pounds lost in the last month and a half but with eating and...
  25. Any chance you could get a script for an anti-spasmodic, like Bentyl?
