Good Doctors Are Hard To Find...but I've Got One ! :)

I'm sooo relieved and happy!

After having hospital appointments for over ten years for my Graves disease and a thyroidectomy ...to put it bluntly, Ive come across some arrogant, uncaring, ditsy doctors/consultants and a surgeon.....

however......

My coeliac Doctor/consulant from day one has been understanding, listens, knowledgeable, explains, is on the ball making sure Im having extra blood tests, vitamins, Dexa, diet etc and is a great advocate for trying to get me prescriptions plus hes incredibly honest saying its all about money and says how he has to fight for his patients to get prescriptions etc, and to top it off he's smilely and respectful!

Finally, my faith in Doctors is being restored!

So what you are telling me is that I need to fly across the Pond to find a good doctor? 

 

It is all about money and it really is the same here in the States and is only going to get worse.  I'm happy that you found someone good because I refuse to go to GI docs for anything.  They insulted me for too many years trying to get diagnosed and I haven't found one I can trust.  Pretty sad, huh?

Gemini, ive been in the same position with drs in the past so I fully understand which is why im holding onto this one but youre welcome to fly across the pond!

Got my Dexa scan tomorrow; just nervous now about the radiation cos over the years ive had a few xrays plus I had radioactive iodine two yrs ago ...does it create a build up in the body as an extra risk ?

I had the Dexa scan and think I was worrying over nothing..apparentely its such a small amount of radiation which we'd normally get in half hour being outside! Anyway, they just scanned my back and hips...just awaiting results now.

I understand your concern about radiation but it's  important to get the Dexa done because bone health is crucial to aging well.  You need strong bones so I think the amount of radiation that you will get hit with is minimal.  It's not like the x-ray machines of the past....like when I was a kid.  What I do myself is base radiation exposure to importance of testing.  I do not allow the dentist to just randomly take x-rays anymore of my teeth.  If all looks well at the dentist and I am having no issues with my teeth, I don't allow x-rays.  But I will have the Dexa done because I am working hard at the gym to reverse my osteoporosis in  my spine. No meds for me!  Good luck on your scan results....let us know what happens!

I love Great Britain.  My family heritage is English, Scottish and Irish so I have all bases covered.  That's probably why I have Celiac too!  I am coming over again this Sept./October for a 2 week trip and can't wait.  I love the history and find the people always welcoming and friendly. We will be returning to the Lakes District to hike.  It is a gorgeous area and we enjoyed ourselves so much the last time we were there.  Then we head off to London for a week because I will never be able to get enough of that city.  I think we have walked over the entire city, collectively, and it's always amazing to see stuff that is a thousand years old!  Every country has their problems but the positive outweighs the negative.....like the US too!

i never got results of my dexa scan so take it no news is good news! Just awaiting genetic results now.

Northern Europeans have a very high genetic susceptability to Celiac Disease.  Ireland, I believe, has the highest rates in Europe, although Italy comes in at a close second.  Ditto for Scandinavia.  Almost everyone I know with Celiac comes from one of the three area's.  Aren't we lucky?
