Claritin D=Disaster For Me

so I was having the start of seasonal allergies and took some Claritin-D 24 hour which is gluten and dairy free, so I thought it would help...wrong  :(

 

this past Sunday marked 4 weeks gluten free.  I have struggled with bloating, constipation and some anxiety  as my main symptoms, but all have been greatly improving since going gluten free.  I have been going almost every morning, which makes me way too excited, but it's true!!  I took Claritin on Friday afternoon, and then Saturday morning, I was extremely anxious and had trouble using the bathroom.  I didn't take it Saturday, and the anxiety subsided some.  Took it again Sunday, and felt anxious again, and bathroom issues again.  Also my spinach has been digesting these last few weeks, and surprise, there were large spinach pieces in my stool.  

 

This whole month the only meds I've taken are Tylenol and Pamprin, so all of this happening in conjunction with taking the Claritin seems to point to it as the culprit.  

 

no more Claritin for now, and instead I'll just be using my Neti-Pot and hope everything subsides soon.

 

anyone have a similar story?

Maybe just Claritin without the D? Isn't the D the pseudophed? That can cause problems in some people. Or try Zytec. Target has a generic that says gluten-free on the package. It's a completely different allergy medicine.

Antihistimines can dehydrate you - which can cause c. And some people get wired or sleepy on the "D" part.

And of course, if you're newly gluten-free and healing anything can set you off. Seriously. I wouldn't have been surprised if I sprouted a second head.

If this is from 2006, it is very out of date info. Ingredients change over 8 years. Re- check the info with the manufacturer.

Edit to add- looks like Claritin is still gluten-free.

Claritin has never seemed to help me. I myself prefer Zyrtec as it works like a boss for me and my pollen allergies.  I can not speak for others, but I also know I have not had any issues with that one.

It's funny - I have my hub and 1 son that think claritin is good. The other son and I like

Zyrtec better. A doctor said Zyrtec is better forallergies that cause eye problems and we, eye allergy sufferers, are the two that like it better. Odd.....

I only use it as my old Dr. had recommend it, and upon checking on things post diagnosis online it had showed up a few places as safe. Now my .10 cents none of it is good for us to take  it all has effects on us both bad and good.  I know down where I am we have ragweed everywhere, and it seems to be also one of the few that it doesn't fink out and leave me feeling horrid(Zyrtec) .

      I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep.This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I get the shakes...

      I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

      Do Gluten Enzymes actually work?

      If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
