Going To Wegmans For Gf Foods, Any Suggestions?

We are going to Wegmans by Downingtown PA. Any suggestions for some 'good' snack foods I can get.

Hi Judyin Philly,

if you look out for a shelf in the Natural Food section. Most Wegman's have their own glutenfree shelf. There's actually a sign hanging from the ceiling that says "glutenfree" over this shelf.

One thing I can absolutely recommen, if you like chocolate. Go to the international section (if you have one in your Wegman's, I always go to the one in State College) and look for "Ritter Sport" chocolate in the german section. Hmmmm! Much much better than Hershey's in my eyes. Hershey's isn't that sweet. Ritter Sport you can really taste the sweetness and it's glutenfree, of course.

Wegmans is the greatest, I am so glad I live near one. It makes shopping so much easier, and more profitable for them, that they mark our safe food with a little orange G. Have fun you'll have lots of choices.

Hi - You are so lucky to have a Wegman's near you!!!

If you go to their website Open Original Shared Link and click on food allergies, there is a whole list of gluten free foods! :D There is a natural food section of the store that will have a lot of gluten-free stuff, and in the freezer section I found Glutino bagels that were wonderful!

If you go to Food Allergies - Celiac and look at the list, you could print it out (right now it's 28 pages long) ;) , or you could make a list of things you want to look for.

A lot of stuff is in the natural food section, but look around the store - there is a lot to pick from!

There is a Wegmans under construction in South Jersey where I live. It will only be 15 min. away and I can't wait! Should be ready by end of year. My parents have one in Syracuse, NY that they shop at often--my Mom is always telling me about all of the "gluten free foods" that they offer.

Jerseyangel - I was introduced to Wegman's when I was visiting family in New Jersey. The closest one to me (45 minutes away) just opened this month. They say you can't even find a space in the parking lot, it is so crowded.

I'm going to give it a few weeks, and then I am going to shop my heart out! It will be worth the trip. :)

Thanks guys, for all your ideas. We went with the printed list and the customer service manager has celiac disease and she was sooooo helpful as was everyone there.

ONE PROBLEM....got glutten on the 'egg drop soup'. I checked with the chef and he promised it was gluten free. On the drive home throat got tight and I started to itch like crazy. Came home and went to bed for 4 hrs. and then the GI kicked in big time.

I called the next day talked to another chef and she said he was right that it had corn starch BUT also had modified food starch that had WHEAT. The first chef was just so nice and it was a honest mistake but I still paid dearly.

We did get alot of 'snacks' to take on a 6 day vacation and had 3 days to recoop before we left--- thank heavens. We were so hungry on the trip down even my non celiac disease husband had one of the gluten-free bars that they suggested and they were GOOD.

The chef I talked to the next day said her goal was to get a gluten-free item on the food menue for us celiac disease'ers.....I just can't say enough about their customer service but it would be nice if we could eat something out of all the great foods they have in the food court. I know there are salads but I was kinda 'salad' out. if you know what i mean. I just saw these posts, Don't know how i missed them before. Thanks again for writing.

      I was undiagnosed for decades. My ferritin when checked in 2003 was 3. It never went above 10 in the next 20 years. I was just told to "take iron". I finally requested the TTgIgA test in 2023 when I was well and truly done with the chronic fatigue and feeling awful. My numbers were off the charts on the whole panel.  they offered me an endoscopic biopsy 3 months later, but that i would need to continue eating gluten for it to be accurate. so i quit eating gluten and my intestine had healed by the time i had the biopsy (i'm guessing??). Why else would my TTgIgA be so high if not celiacs? Anyway, your ferritin will rise as your intestine heals and take HEME iron (brand 4 arrows). I took 20mg of this with vitamin c and lactoferrin and my ferritin went up, now sits around 35.  you will feel dramatically better getting your ferritin up, and you can do it orally with the right supplements. I wouldn't get an infusion, you will get as good or better results taking heme iron/vc/lf.

      Scott, I agree with everything you said except the term "false negative". It should be a "true negative" just plain negative. I actually looked up true/false negative/positive as it pertains to testing. The term "false negative" would be correct if you are positive (have anti-bodies) and the test did not pick them up. That would be a problem with the "test" itself. If you were gluten-free and got tested, you more than likely would test "true" negative or just negative. This means that the gluten-free diet is working and no anti-bodies should be present. I know it sounds confusing and if you don't agree feel free to respond.

      I realized it is actually important to get an official diagnosis because then insurance can cover bone density testing and other lab work to see if any further damage has been done because of it. Also, if hospitalized for whatever reason, I have the right to gluten-free food if I am officially celiac. I guess it gives me some legal protections. Plus, I have 4 kids, and I really want to know. If I really do have it then they may have increased risk.

      Been off this forum for years. Is it that important that you get an official diagnosis of something? It appears like you had a trigger (wheat, gluten, whatever) and removing it has resolved your symptom. I can't speak for you, but I had known what my trigger was (gluten) years before my diagnosis I would just stay gluten-free and get on with my symptom free condition. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and have been symptom free only excluding wheat, rye and barley. I tolerate all naturally gluten free whole foods including things like beans which actually helps to form the stools.

      No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
