Symptom And Diet Tracker Phone App

Just wanted to share an app I've found to be useful for keeping a food journal and symptom diary (if anyone else, like me, never remembers to write things down on paper!)

'symple' is free and so far hasn't hassled me with any 'upgrade' options. You fill in a journal, symptoms and other factors (eg. exercise, medicine) for each day. Symptoms and factors are chosen from lists you create yourself and you can rate the symptoms based on how extreme they've been that day, which are then shown on a little graph so you can track how you're doing. You just write in the journal bit as normal. I've tried a few food diary things that I haven't liked but this seems much better so I thought I'd share! Hope it helps.

I have been looking for something like this! Thank you for sharing!

I'm not knocking this app, it looks awesome. But I'd like to point out for anyone who pokes their nose in here who doesn't have an iphone that there are similarly awesome apps for android people.

Yeah, do you know if there's an Android version, or a good recommended app? I really need to get on that tracking thing as well.

That app isn't available for android. I use mySymptoms though which is. It seems to be pretty similar, although it isn't free. It's $2.99, which isn't a lot to pay and I finally caved with my new phone and got a paid for app for the first time ever. I really like it. And it tracks everything, and I mean everything. Right down to the Bristol scale for your poop. What I like most about it though is that after you use it long enough if you're having a particular symptom you can't pinpoint a cause for yourself, you can tell it to tell you the most likely causes. And it does a pdf you can take to your doctor too.

Celiac disease is the most likely cause, but here are articles about the other possible causes:

Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
