IgG type antibodies take a long time to go away, and can take a year or so to go down to below the range after going gluten free

How high/low is your total IgA?

We have seen that some have lowish IgA and it is reported as normal.

Biopsies from endoscopy/colonoscopy all came back negative, just some mild gastritis, so now what? He said to stick with the gluten free dairy free diet, which I have been doing for a week now and my headaches have gone away, but none of my other symptoms have improved at all. So now I don't know what to do from here. Everything was negative so if its not celiac and its caused by gluten shouldn't I be feeling better by now? If anyone could help me out here that would be great because now I have no idea what the cause could be and my doctor didn't say anything other than to follow Gluten free  while longer and follow up at an appointment in 2 months. Sorry for rambling I am just a little frustrated now, thinking that I would have at least had an answer after a the colonoscopy/endoscopy. Thanks for listening again.

If you feel better on a gluten-free/DF diet, then it is a good idea to stay on it for the 2 month trial period until you see your doctor again.  Did you get the results of your bloodwork?

AJO21 Newbie

I have not really felt better on the diet, although its only been a week, I've actually been a little worse in terms of GI symptoms but my headaches have gone away, that's the only improvement so far. And the only blood work that I have had done is the initial blood work where my IgA serum was very low/deficient and my IgG was positive.

I did not feel even a little bit better until I was six weeks into the diet. I felt normal closer to a year. Everyone is different. What I am trying to say is that you need to be patient and I know that is difficult. Also, consider eliminating dairy. That might help too,

In any case, you really need to stick it out at least until your next doctor's visit. This is just another "test" that your doctor is putting you through.

Watch for cross contamination and check all labels for hidden gluten.

Yeah I will definitely give it some more time, thanks for the advice. I just figured that because the endoscopy was negative that things would improve quickly if it was only an intolerance to gluten as the test ruled out celiac. And I have also eliminated dairy. I have been lactose intolerant for years but have become significantly more sensitive to all forms of dairy in the past year.

Symptoms that get worse if you don't supplement is a sign of malabsorption, possibly due to Celiac disease. Blood tests for nutritional deficiencies are not very accurate, and should be done when you have been off of supplements for eight to twelve weeks, otherwise the vitamin supplements you've taken will be measured.  The blood circulation system is a transportation system.  It transports the vitamins you've absorbed around the body, but blood tests don't give an accurate picture of the vitamin and mineral stores inside organs and tissues where they are actually used.  You can have "normal" blood levels but still have deficiencies.  This is because the brain demands stored nutrients be put into the blood stream to supply important organs, like the brain and heart, while other organs do without.   If you are taking Thiamine Mononitrate in your supplements, you are probably low in thiamine.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many supplements because it won't break down sitting on a shelf.  This also means Thiamine Mononitrate is difficult for the body to utilize.  Only thirty percent of Thiamine Mononitrate on the label is absorbed and even less is able to be utilized by the body.  A different form of Thiamine called Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.   Talk to your doctor about doing a genetic test to look for Celiac markers.   I'm concerned that if you do a gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum off two weeks) in your weakened state, the nutritional deficiencies will become worse and possibly life threatening.

Hello, good afternoon!   I apologize, I didn’t see a notification and I’m just reading this. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and the link. Yes you are absolutely right, even so trying to get a response from them has been extremely difficult. They don’t answer but I will your practice of “guilty until proven innocent.”   I like and have a sense of trust here in this website, everyone is honest and thoughts are raw. The mutual understanding is amazing!   thank you Scott!

That and my nutritionist also said that drinking cider is one of the worst drink choices for me, given that I have candida overgrowth.  She said the combination of the alcohol and sugar would be very likely to worsen my candida problem.  She suggested that if I drink, I go for clear vodka, either neat or with a splash of cranberry.   So in summary, I am giving ciders a rest.  Whether it's a gluten risk or sugars and yeast overgrowth, its just not worth it.
