I've been watching "House" looking for the celiac disease Show. Do you think it might be on tonight? The previews from last week showed a bicyclist racing, falling, and something about his system(s) shutting down or dying. Do you think that might be the one??

I checked the listing and I think that the issue is steriods--House dosen't want to treat the guy because he suspects he's used them. I look ahead on my TiVo and haven't found the Celiac episode yet. If I do, I'll post it.

There's always the possibility that it could be mentioned in such a way that it is one of the first diagnoses they come up with before they find the right one.....

True--wouldn't want it to sneak past us! :)

I thought it might be it last night when a guy came into the clinic and told House that he was have diarrhea 13+ times a day (and he was a flight attendant, so it was REALLY inconvenient!). I was thinking, Please don't let this be it...It ended up he had quit smoking and was chewing 6 packs of sugarless gum a day and the artifical sweeteners was having a laxative effect on him.

I am hoping they do a complete show on it, since celiac disease is so difficult to diagnose, and gets misdiagnosed with so many things first, it would make a good disease for House.

Ha Ha :D I thought the same thing last night!

When they started talking about lupus and MS for the cyclist, I thought that they were going to end up with celiac, but it wasn't.......

I cracked up when House came out of that room as said "Clean up in aisle 5!!"

Same here. Looks like next week's episode is about AIDS. I'll watch it just to get to the previews.

Multivitamins are generally not potent enough to effective address significant deficiencies.

Try a multivitamin maybe it will cover what you are deficient in.

Agreed, and I can't remember exactly and haven't got time to check, but I think my blood didn't normalise for eight years! For years I read this forum thinking why can't I get my numbers down - everyone else manages to.   But my gastroenterologist didn't seem to worry about it, which makes me think he either thought I wasn't complying to the diet, or he'd seen similar cases.

Yes, being off gluten for 3 months would likely yield negative results. To get accurate testing redone you would need to restart gluten consumption for several weeks (the "gluten challenge") to the tune of at least 10g of gluten daily (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread).

That is one of the tests covered in the article I linked you above.
